Danny Guthrie - Keegan Is A Legend

July 12th, 2008 · 139 Comments

It seems like our new signing Danny Guthrie, already knows about the terrific atmosphere generated at St. James’ Park, by some of the most loyal and enthusiastic fans in the world.

Danny Guthrie - Keegan is a legend

And now the 21 year old midfield youngster just cannot wait to see what it’s like to have the Newcastle United fans on his side.

The 21-year-old became our second signing yesterday, when it was announced on the Newcastle United web site last night, and he penned a four-year deal, after seemingly being very keen to move to Tyneside from Liverpool.

Danny spent last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers, and he played in Keegan’s first game back on January 19th at St. James’ Park, when Kevin Keegan finally returned to the club he took to second place in the Premier league in his first stint as manager.

We’ll have to see if we can watch that game again to see how the youngster played.

Bolton hung on for all they were worth during that game, and although Newcastle had much more of the ball, we just couldn’t put the ball in the net.

Danny spoke to nufc.co.uk this morning:

“I remember the atmosphere being amazing that day.”

“It was a really special occasion for the Newcastle United fans because Kevin Keegan was back as manager.”

“The fans were just unbelievable.”

It turns out Danny also appeared as a substitute at St. James’ for Liverpool when we took the Reds apart 2-1, in February during the 2006/07 season.

To be a little more truthful, that’s the game when Craig Bellamy and the Liverpool strikers seemed to miss chance after chance in that first half, and we came back to take all 3 points.

Danny added:

“Kevin is a legend and it is going to be very exciting for me to see what I can learn from him.”

“I learned a lot playing in the Premier League for Bolton last season and I expect more from myself next season.”

“I cannot wait to get started. I just want to do well for Newcastle United.”

We like the attitude of Danny already, and it’s so refreshing to hear a young lad, who may have the football world at his feet, at just 21 years of age.

We think he’s right, in that Kevin Keegan and our coaching staff will help him a lot, and it will be both interesting and exciting to see how the lad performs for us next season, fantastically well we hope.

It’s great to sign these young upbeat kids to the club - we love it, just love it, and it looks like Danny is made in Kevin’s image, he seems so enthusiastic.  :D

Certainly if we are going to make the top six, we’ll have to have more than a few of our players next season playing out of their skins.

Comments welcome.

seems like he has his head screwed on properly

  • 2 sweendog // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:20

Good squad signing .. a few more signings like these and maybe 2 top signings and things could look very good for this season.

  • 3 Ben_BKK // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:29

Can’t have been that proper, look who we bought him from! ;)

  • 4 dingo // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:31

    more of the same please…..

  • 5 Danny G // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:39

Not the trophy signing some of you wanted but a good buy none the less….

He will be a good signing for us and is only gonna get better and not worse like all of our signings!

He is very experienced for a 21 year old, I seem to remember him scoring past Bayern Munich in the UEFA cup last season!

Put it this way…He was better than Barton and he is not in jail!!

  • 6 Punk Skunk // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:40

Well said Danny, now get y’head down & show us what y’made of son!..
…Don’t think he’s gonna be one of the whining kind, phew!..
…More lads that wanna play for the Geordies, KK & NUFC please!..

  • 7 Matt // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:41

This is what we havn’t had for a while, people with a real desire to play for Newcastle. Morale and motivation can win many a match.

  • 8 sirjasontoon // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:46

Charles N’Zogbia take note that is what you call a good attitude.

Good luck to the lad and hope he does well more signings please Mr Ashley in the 5-10m bracket if possible.

  • 9 normski1930z // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:46

i still feel we need a cb(big nasty and quick), a midfield enforcer maybe inler and most importantly in my eyes a midfielder with invention, guile craft a playmaker if you will….

  • 10 ObaFan2 // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:47

    Agree Punk Skunk & Matt.

Wouldn’t we love to be in his position now, I sure would, playing for KK’s new team on Tyneside ……. wish I were 20 years younger lmao.

  • 11 normski1930z // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:49

and maybe another forward, hold up man as viduka will only probably play 50% of the time or maybe am just greedy lol…

  • 12 totsy // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:49

i very pleased with this prchase..he may not be a big buy but he has a great attitude towards football and a player with a strongheart and passion can replace any player in our starting line up because its that which got teams like turkey to the semi-finals of euro.

considering hes younger than steven taylor and milner and at the same time probably better than both of them is a really exciting prospect, i dont think people are to impressed by this purchase as of yet but i look forward to seeing him put in a great shift next season especially when he’ll be playing with better players.

all we need now is a couple more youngsters then a flash player will skill and all the rest to add some flair to the team along with players like gutierrez and martins ect we may even be able to challenge for that illusive uefa spot that has evaded us for the last 4 seasonswith keegan anything is possible you should all know that from the last time he was at the helm.

i wish danny, jonas and singings to follow the best of uck and hope that they make a huge impact at st. james and get the team back to were it belongs

  • 13 Danny G // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:49

I agree Punk….The more lads we buy that wanna play for us the better their performance will be on the pitch!

If we have moaners spitting their dummy every week coz they don’t live in London then where is that gonna get us…..?

    A good move by Keegan!

Just a thought but….Imagine if he turned out to be as good as Gerrard? :-)

  • 14 Punk Skunk // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:52

    Aye Obafan 2,
We just need a team full of players that wanna be here & we’re off!..
…KK knows how to get the best outta players, specially if they have the correct attitude from the get go!..He did it last time & he can do it again!..

…Well said Sirjason, other squad players (Zog), take note, grow some balls, get y’heed straight & leave it all on the field!..

  • 15 CRAIGG // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:53

I saw Bolton in the UEFA a few times and Guthrie really impressed me, He has as pointed out a good range of passing, Takes a Decent set piece and has loads of energy getting back to defend and then up to support the attack.

Just because we have signed this lad i dont see where it says we have given up on Aimar, He has said he wants to join and We have expressed an interest so it may still hapen.

KK bought Batty instead of more conventional DMs because he didnt just retrieve the ball he could use it, Guthrie can defend OK and pass the ball really well, He would complement a creative player like Aimar.

Fulham looked a side when at the end of last season they played with Murphy and Bullard two attack minded CMs, Both good passers of the ball, As will Liverpool with Gerrard and Barry next season, Showing you dont need necessarily a DM in the premiership nowadays.

I dont think Guthrie will be a squad player at all i think Kev would have him in the midfield, In front of Geremi, Duff, Smith and now Zog for his attitude.

  • 16 ObaFan2 // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:55

totsy, good point about Turkeys teamwork in the cup and lets not forget how Greece won it 4 years earlier.

7 subs available next season will make more options for changing tactics during the game and will be very interesting how this will work out.

  • 17 SteveD // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:57

Another (hopefully) good stealth-signing. One or two more midfielders and I’ll be comfortable going into the new season.

  • 18 normski1930z // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:59

craigg i understand where ya coming from but i just like to have that enforcer in place bcos with the speed of counter attacks in the premiership these days i just like to have that backup… and try not to leave our back four exposed..

  • 19 Punk Skunk // Jul 12, 2008 at 11:59

    ObaFan2,
yes mate, i’m sure most, if not all of us on here would kill to play for the Toon!..
    …Count me in!..

cheers obafan 2 its nice to have my comments aknowledged m8 :)

  • 21 Back-In-Toon // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:00

I just want to say that this is a great signing.
Enthusiastic and huge potential, and hopefully KK will get the best out of him, as from what ive heard from the Bolton fans he seems to be a bit of a confidence player, which is great news when you have KK around.

Im sorry but this signing shows how fickle some TOON fans are, just because it aint a big name, they dont care about it!
On 606 there was one article, and hardly anyone commented on it, it this was a big name siging there would have been a hundred articles all rated 5* with a million comments.

On here would have been alot more comments also if it was a big name coming in, but no, small name, (although he could be big) and hardly any comments (good comments anyway).

  • 22 ObaFan2 // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:02

Would be a good start to see the players play with as much enthusiasm as the fans and make the days of BSA a distant memory :)

What position Punk Skunk, I’m probably right mf :)

  • 23 Punk Skunk // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:03

    Aye normski,
midfield all the way…the rags are still stuck on that bull that we need a new defense…Not stricktly true…We need players to protect the defense…A couple more defenders wouldn’t go a miss like!..Torosidis would be kool!..

  • 24 totsy // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:03

i havent been on in a while so im just wondering what our situation on arda turan is? havent heard out in ages.

i play for newcastle youth team by the way….newcastle falcons that is :)

  • 25 ObaFan2 // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:04

totsy, alot of people seem to forget it’s a team game tbh and always single players out… me included at times when it comes to the likes of Smith etc.

  • 26 CRAIGG // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:04

    17 normski1930z

    Horses for courses

Butt as the Anchor man could Play against the Arsenals, Man Utds etc.

Guthrie or Barton conventional CMs against the Spurs, Pompeys, Villas, Boros, Mackems etc.

All vying to partner Aimar i hope!

  • 27 HATE PRAWN SANDWICHES // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:05

lads about all my comments on previous articles, sorry for being doom and gloom! still feel the same way but just want the best for us and the club!!! hope we do buy more players with talent and quality!
normski - are you being greedy? no!!

oh bollox it i want the lot cb,dm,am and cf come on ashley make it happen lol…

  • 29 Punk Skunk // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:07

Well i always played no. 11, kinda left wing…I’m right -footed, but with a good left, not really one of those cut in from the left on to me right…
…That’s why it gets to me when i see players worth god knows what, that can’t even use their other foot!..Tell ya’ what mate, i’d be in demand these days!.. :D

  • 30 totsy // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:08

obafan2 im guilty 2 m8 you could have a team of superstars that have a terrible chemistry which cant work well together abit like gerrard and lampard in midfield together….but a team of people who make up for what other people lack would be the perfect team

  • 31 normski1930z // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:10

i would love to see us get Pogrebnyak just an opinion coz i know hps wants gomez any thought ppl??? maybe its just me but i love watching top class centre forwards work…

  • 32 Gateshead Mag. // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:11

I hope he does well. Love his attitude.

  • 33 Punk Skunk // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:11

Yes totsy, a la russia & turkey in the euros!..Team work=good football!..

  • 34 ObaFan2 // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:12

HPR, I don’t know why but I seem soo much happier about the club mainly because of this signing and MA’s comment yesterday.

I still believe we will get atleast a couple more established players to compliment the younger signings.

Is it Evans a cb from Man u ( the youngster) sounds good and an experienced CB too.

A lb to help Enrique (if we get shot of Zog)

    Atleast 1 cm (experienced)

and maybe a forward of somesort to compliment Oba and Owen the way Dukes does.

    and then we’ll be fine.

  • 35 Punk Skunk // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:13

With ya’ all the way normski…I’ve been bangin’ on about him for yonx…Not that i don’t rate Gomez like!..

  • 36 totsy // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:14

normski- i would rather we went for gomez because he had a disapointing euro so his price miht have dropped and other teams probably wont want him were as pogrebnyak’s price will have increased after his great tournement

  • 37 HATE PRAWN SANDWICHES // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:16

realisticaly normski there is no chance of bringing in gomez!! would although be a great signing to replace viduka !!

still would like N’zogbia to stay he as got so much to offer!! would be a massive loss imo!!
he just wants to play football!

  • 38 Punk Skunk // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:16

    totsy,
Pogrebnyak didn’t play in the euros, he was injued, so wasn’t even there…He got injured playin’ for zenit in the uefa cup mate!..that’s why we could get him, ‘cos people have prob over-looked him!..

  • 39 ObaFan2 // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:17

Pogrebnyak is the Russian CF? he was ok m8 imo but not that brilliant again only imo.

So Punk your left wing, me right any more? :D

If totsy’s a brusier rugby player gonna be cb or cf bullying the defence lol.

  • 40 normski1930z // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:17

pogrebnyak didnt play mate that was pavlachenko….. gomezs asking price is 18 million pogrebnyak nearer 8 to 10 mill….

  • 41 ObaFan2 // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:18

Pogrebnyak, oh sorry wrong player… thought it wasn’t right lol….. names a little similar to a simpleton like me :)

obafan lol as long as my massive tits er i meen muscels dont get in my way lol

  • 47 CRAIGG // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:22

    Henry

  • 48 Danny G // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:23

Pogrebnyak would be awesome like…Would be another stealth signing! A lot cheaper than some of the Gomez/Gomis deals would be…

I have just read in the Guardian that the Guthrie deal was only 1 million…if that is true then its a really good deal!!

Just need to add Evans, Inler, Pogrebnyak and a young left back and we are sorted!

  • 49 ObaFan2 // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:23

normski1930z, Oba at the minute :D

  • 52 Oba // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:25

Give up believing media. Two signings basically out of the blue. Okay, we were linked with Guthrie once, but that was a while back now.

Next signing could be anyone, hope it’s a defender though.

  • 53 CRAIGG // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:25

    Actually scratch Henry

Did anyone go to the match in 98 i think??
When the scousers beat us 4-1 at SJP and Owen got a hat trick cuz i did and i havent been as s**t scared of us playing against a CF in my life he made Stuart pearce look like Titus Bramble!

  • 54 Punk Skunk // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:26

I think it’s all been said about Guthrie now. Good attitude, still young, proven in the premier league and wants to play for us. It’s nice to see that some of the sceptics are changing their views on this lad.

More signings now please. Inler next?

I have to be honest regarding the Guthrie signing.

I think firstly its a good move, particularly if its for app’ 2 million. As he got talent, potential and the right age, with a glowing reference regarding his attitude.

However i will be disappointed if this lad is bought with the first team in mind. Sure he will be a valuable addition to our small squad, even more so with 7 on the bench now and Kev looking to be flexible with his formations.

But if hes a replacement for Barton / Zog then i am disappointed. Not to be potentialy losing these players, but i would rather have instant quality going into our 1st team.

    Time will tell.

  • 73 Punk Skunk // Jul 12, 2008 at 12:45

Im from a younger generation than you lot my first hero was Gavin Peacock, As my first season was 91-92 and obviously as his goals kept us up with a bit of KK and Sir Johns Magic helping he stood out is a realy poor side

Followed by even more Weirdly Lee Clark !!!

I just think im a bit odd as i never seemed to idolize the spectacular players like Beardsley, Lee, Ginola, Ferdinand, Asprilla, Shearer, Solano, Dyer, Robert, Bellamy ETC.

My fave player now is Jinky Jimmy.

  • 90 CRAIGG // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:03

I would be happy if we rolled up at Man Poo with this side:

    ——————-Given———————–
    —-Beye—–Taylor—Lugano—-Shorey—-
    —-SWP——-Guthrie—Aimar—Gutierrez—
    —————–Owen——Viduka————

Subs: Harper, Faye, Enrique, Barton, Milner, Martins, Smith

Anythin’ i’ve read on Zog is VERY OLD ‘NEWS’..
…No new quotes, so it looks like total BS pap stirring to me!..
    http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/287079427?-11058

…This is an eg of what i’m sayin’, outragously out of date…Just like the Given cack!..

  • 92 AndyNUFC // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:07

An english 21 year old central midfielder who can play on either side and has an attitude like that is a good prospect in itself. I really do hope Kevin can get the best out of him, however, people are still shouting for a holding midfielder and a playmaker, so does that mean Guthrie is a one for the future, fringe player this season at best? I think whoever Kev signs, if they get a good team formula together and hit good form then he’ll stick with it.

  • 93 HATE PRAWN SANDWICHES // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:08

Normski - didn’t believe there was that much wrong with Viduka! just think he plays when he wants, plays on injuries when it suits him!!

  • 94 normski1930z // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:10

hps i dont think viduka likes the cold weather just watch when it gets to dec,jan,feb….. lets see how many games he plays in them months….

  • 95 Sav // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:10

Shay Given should get a mention in the context of Guthrie wanting to play for the Toon. An international keeper who perhaps WOULD have a realistic prospect of transferring to Arsenal (unlike a certain whingey Frenchman) and gave a great example by reacting swiftly to speculation. Oba and esp. Zog should take a leaf out of his book.

On Oba2’s mention of the 7 subs rule, I don’t expect to see this inspire fascinating tactical battles by managerial eggheads. I expect it to mean even less chance for clubs (like us) who can perhaps muster a decent first 11 to compete with top 4 squads featuring 25 internationals and their top youths loaned out to your competitors (but disallowed from playing against their real team, of course).

    Its a Blatteresque scandal, man.

  • 96 euanpolo // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:13

Emile Mpenza has been released by Man City, he wouldn’t be a bad signing on a free. I always thought he was pretty good at man city.

  • 97 Fernando // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:14

The papers are having a stinker at the moment. I think the sun must of had to let a load of journos go when they dropped the price of the paper to 25p. They just rehash stories and try to unsettle players in an attempt to keep the top four in there place. I would love a couple of teams to break into the top 4(even newcastle) to shut them up . Today for instance they claimed spurs would have to sell berba to balance the books while in other articles claiming we are buying bentley for 14mill and are prepared to pay upwards of 10mill for nzogbia. I bet nzogbia never said anything yet the papers have succeeded in turning the newcastle fans against him.

  • 98 Spyro // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:14

i cant believe you would put in Taylor ahead of faye, we all know what happened last time taylor played against Man U.

Aimar and Guthrie in the middle would mean Guthrie would have to play DM, which i dont think he is good at to tell the truth, he is energetic and loves to run back and forward, putting him in DM would kill half of his game surely. not to mention Aimar hasn’t been good for years now. Why are people on here so desperate for him? on current form we could get much better AM/Wingers

  • 99 Spyro // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:15

N’zogbia probably did say it, but probably a while back and they have dug it up. Anyway, most on here know that Zog will leave if he gets the chance so its not exactly new news.

  • 100 HATE PRAWN SANDWICHES // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:15

Thats defo why we need a forward! to replace him now! whatever MA or KK does just hope out of our rubbish we get rid of three players SMITH, DUFF, AMEOBI!!!! PLEASE!!!

  • 101 CRAIGG // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:18

    Obafan2

Ive always felt that since then god has been mocking us since then

We played in 98 Cup final Arsenals double winners and in 99 Cup Final Man Utds treble winners.

The years before in the 97 Cup final relegated Boro played a Chelsea side we beat 3-0 a month before.

And the year after in 2000 we were robbed in the semis by a flukey Chelsea side with Gregorys crappy Villa waiting in the final.

Also in 98 Arsenal came within a whisker of being knocked out by Port Vale on pens, Had that happened we would have played Vale, Wolves or West Ham in the final.

Ive always wanted us to win the FA Cup more than the Premiership.

Im sure with Portsmouth winning it last season we can with a good draw and a few additions to the squad, We could do it, It would be right if KK is the manager when we end this jinx.

  • 102 CRAIGG // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:22

Taylor needs to play with a quality experienced CB and he will look as good as he did a season ago.

Faye isnt good enough and despite the fact that he is a decent fall back we cannot have an average player hindering the development of our young CBs.

    On guthrie read number 14

  • 103 Spyro // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:24

faye is a dominant CB, much better than Taylor in every area

Aimar doesn’t defend at all so i think Guthrie would struggle playing the defensive role by himself in the middle

  • 104 CRAIGG // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:25

Why do you put it on Taylor he is the youngster what about Cacapa and Faye both experienced internationals and we lost 6-0 and 5-1

Or even Rozenhal who came on when we were 3-0 down and finished up at 6-0

  • 105 Spyro // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:26

i am not blaming the whole game
but he made awful, stand out errors in that game and cost us at least 3 of those goals

remember him running past ronaldo, what was that all about? embarrassing that was

  • 106 CRAIGG // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:27

A dominant CB! he is a decent back up, Taylor has the ability to go to the top for club and country.

Ive seen both live on many occasions and Taylor on form makes faye look average at best.

Maybe at 31 he should be better than a 22 year old

  • 107 Spyro // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:28

Faye is the dominant no nonsense defender, Coloccini would compliment him as he is more technical, Taylor is not no nonsense or technical so he doesn’t deserve a place in the first team

  • 108 Spyro // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:28

Faye at Bolton performed better than taylor has in his best season

  • 109 ObaFan2 // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:30

Sav, Oba loves this club and he only responded honsetly to a question about the speculation about Arse nal. He’s still young and is still ambitious and I admire that.

Oba does let his head drop if 1, the team are playing crap… which happened alot last season and 2, if he was subbed.

He wants to score goals and plays with a big big heart and I love watching him.

  • 110 Spyro // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:30

Faye dominates the air, he is strong and never backs down from a tackle

Taylor is not exactly strong, not really good in the air and he is slow as hell

  • 111 CRAIGG // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:31

And you think that he was the only player to be made to look stupid by Ronaldo over the course of the last 2 seasons?

Ive seen Taylor mark Berbatov, Drogba, Henry and Rooney out of games and ive seen Faye struggle against Stoke and Derby and be outmuscled by James McFadden

  • 112 Geordie Nick // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:32

faye and taylor both make costly mistakes and neither of them are good enough to start in my opinion, but one of them will have to start as we will probly only buy one new CB, and my choice would probly b faye

  • 113 Spyro // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:33

even Titus Bramble had awesome games from time to time, the fact is Taylor is awful more times than he is good, therefore sub at best

  • 114 CRAIGG // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:33

He was poor in a poor team for a chunk of last season

Every other season he has been great and if you’d seen him play Drogba then you wouldnt question his strength, Heading or pace.

  • 115 CRAIGG // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:35

Looks lets leave it at this you have memories like Goldfish and im right

    Au revoir

  • 116 Spyro // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:35

as i have said, even Bramble has good games, i have seen Michael Dawson mark top players out of games yet not many people on here rate him. I would have Dawson over Taylor any day, both make mistakes but he is taller, and faster

  • 117 Spyro // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:36

“Looks lets leave it at this you have memories like Goldfish and im right”

you sound like a child craigg, grow up

  • 118 normski1930z // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:37

to be honest i dont think taylor is anywhere near as good as he thinks he is…..

  • 119 Spyro // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:39

normski the fact is, the only people that really rate taylor are some nufc fans because he is geordie and had one decent season, his performances do not warrant his praise

All this crap about top teams wanting him, oh please, it was after he had one good season and he was young, it soon died down after they realised he was nothing special

  • 120 Angryman the Angry Fan // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:41

Dont shoot the messenger but direct from a Bolton Fan site:-
“While Guthrie showed promise at times, the idea that he was the ‘next Steven Gerrard` owed more to scouse hyperbole rather than any realistic assessment of the player`s abilities. He lacked end product and although his energy and enthusiasm couldn`t be doubted, he tended to waste most of it running around in circles. His ability to carry the ball was negated by a head-down approach that often led to him running out of pitch.”

Maybe another year or two then before we see him come to fruition!!
Just as KK is coming to the end of his contract……..GOD My synicism worries me at times!!!!

  • 121 normski1930z // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:43

if i am honest and liverpool had reportedly bid 10 million for him i would have snapped there hand off…. then used the money to get collacini…

  • 122 Spyro // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:43

Angryman i read that too, while some of what they say is true, it is mostly just a harsh evaluation of the kid because they dont want to look stupid for missing out on a decent young player

  • 123 Spyro // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:45

rubbish, liverpool never bid 10 million for him, i dont believe that for a second…then again, liverpool sold Alonso and are apparently prepared to give 15million plus Finnan for Barry, they aren’t exactly the smartest when it comes to transfers

  • 124 normski1930z // Jul 12, 2008 at 13:48

they might not be the smartest with transfers spyro but i would swap there starting 11 for ours anyday of the week….

  • 131 Hadji // Jul 12, 2008 at 14:13

Spyro….I’ll be honest with you,i dont like any of those 2.But if i had to choose,i’d go for Faye.
Taylor panics a lot when he has the ball in his feet, and loses his concetration very easy. But i do know that in 2 years Taylor will be one of the top(not best) defenders in the league.
We certanly do need a DM,and concidering our financial situation,i recomended Pablo Garcia on a free transfer. But if we had for example 7-8mill to spend on a DM i’ll be very realistic and say that we should go for Petit from Benfica or Scot Brown from Celtic.

i like guthrie, i did mntion him a while ago, works hard and can also pick out a pass or two, can also tackle. and if it is the supposed 2mill fee, thats great business

  • 137 Spyro // Jul 12, 2008 at 15:11

i have never mentioned him but i agree with you about him, he works hard in the middle of the park and has only improved last season
