One of the things that can make people really successful in life is if they can take personal responsibility for both their successes and failures.
Albert Luque – coaches, bad luck and injuries all to blame
Albert Luque is being let go by Ajax after just one season at the Holland club, and he has quickly blamed bad management at Newcastle, for his failure to succeed since leaving Deportivo in Spain, 3 years ago.
Luque has been told to find a new club by the Dutch giants after just 12 months into the four-year contract he signed after leaving Tyneside last August.
His overall attitude is now being questioned in Holland as well as on Tyneside, but the Spaniard is taking absolutely no responsibility for his current situation.
Luque told the Sunday Sun today:
“It was a mistake leaving Deportivo for Newcastle,â€
“From that moment, I suffered the worst time of my career and luck deserted me.”
“I arrived at Newcastle with high hopes, but injuries and the coaches there were directly responsible for my failure.â€
Luque is now very likely to return to Spain, and will probably need to take a wage cut in the process.
There again, he can always do what another Spaniard, Marcelino, did at Newcastle, and just bide his time at Ajax and continue picking up his huge wages.
But we think Albert will find a Spanish club, and maybe he can come good again, but he’ll need to change that attitude.
Comments welcome.

Comment #42he should take some blame but he is right partially, suffered a horrific injury in his first season and the coaches he did have can hardly be called the best motivators.
he was a good player before he came to us, and he was totally rocked by the magnitude of his injury then how when he didnt come back firin on all cilinders we absolutly barrated him. if he got anywhere near as many minutes as shola did when he was told to prove himself i bet he would of in the end. fact is we only ever put him on for the last 15 minutes of games which makes it really difficult to get into the match, particularly in such a fast and physical league.
pisses me off how much people slate him, no wonder he had a bad attitude with us by the time he left

Comment #43he suffered a horendous injury and I think was brought back too early and was always wary of damaging his injury again.roeder shattered his confidence[whose confidence wouldn’t be shattered by having a useless ameobi picked ahead of you]. plus the fact that when I saw him play he would get into decent positions but nobody would pass to him.so all in all I think newcastle totally ruined his career.

Correct , Souness stated on SSN that he wanted Anelka instead of Owen.
He also stated that he never wanted Luque but was told by Fat freddie he had to go and get him, and not only that he was told he was available for £2M but when news leaked that we were after him his price was hiked as per in those days whenever our name was limked with a player, but Fat Freddie would not eat humble pie. That is straight from the horses mouth. Anybody else see it ? Having said that I reckon, a run in the first team would of built up his confidence then we would of seen the Luque we were expecting to see.Remember his debut against Man U when he flicked the ball over Ferdinands head but volleyed over the bar, that was a confident Luque. Pity eh.

Comment #52Luque was a sub in the 1st leg of uefa against us, subbed the 2nd leg so why on earth when he played rubbish did we sign him! Yes cos they panicked that MO was turning us down. So they paid 10 mill ott for MO and 6 mill ott for Luque. 2 mill ott for faye and 8.5 ott for Boumsong. Shep and Souey at this point you screwed our club. Your 2nd shot SHEP at doing it after you only let sir bobby get Bowyer when you should have given him 20 mill to push on. We would have been up there now still-big mistakes.

Comment #54robertsa, i disagree, while i wouldn’t blame the previous coaching staff for Luque’s entire poor showing at the toon, it must be said that yes, the caoching staff did actually harm the form and quality of alot (if not most) of our players, by simple being not good enough to do the job!
simple mproof of this would be our standings in the league over the past few years versus the money we’ve spent on players, compare this to other clubs and it’s claer our coaching staff hasn’t been up to it since sir bobby.
clearly this has been the case for alot of the players brought in too, but alot of the blame for having these players in the first place has to be aimed at the manager.

Comment #55If he had a good performance in training, I don’t think Glenn Roeder didn’t give him a chance to play

Just think he would of come good if given the opportunity.
We don’t know what has gone on at Ajax but not stating he may not be at fault for situation.
He certainly deserves more chances in the game than Barton.
