Time Almost Up For Newcastle On Pablo Aimar

News today that Pablo Aimar’s agent believes that the Argentine attacking midfielder will soon be moving to Benfica.

Pablo Aimar – will soon be a Benfica player

The 28-year-old, who was always leaving Spanish club Real Zaragoza, after they were relegated from La Liga last season, was said to be interested in a more lucrative move to the English Premier league.

Newcastle United, Everton and Portsmouth were reported to be interested in the 51 times capped Argentine, but there’s no evidence that any English club bid for the player, and he may end up at Benfica after all.

Aimar’s agent, Gustavo Mascardi told Portuguese newspaper Record today:

“I’m awaiting at the moment a phone call from (Zaragoza owner) Agapito Iglesias telling me that Benfica’s money has arrived.”

“As things stand, Aimar will be a player at the Portugese club.”

Pablo is available for a reported cut-price £6M, after Real Zaragoza paid £10M for him just a couple of years ago from Valencia, but now have to unload him to cut the wage bill.

We can only assume that Newcastle are not interested in the player, or else we would at least have put in a bid.

We had thought all along, that Pablo would have been a good buy for the club, and we certainly need a few experienced recruits, before the end of August.

Seems like we can cross Pablo off the list now.

I don’t think we were interested in him at all. Just paper-talk, considering we signed two players who no one even mentioned to have been interesting us.

common sence previals really, he would just be a typical big name signing for newcastle no doubt and would just pick up his pay cheque

Doesn’t look like we’re interested, which is a shame. I like the idea of bringing in youngsters, but we do need to mix it up with some experience. We’re also dying for some flair. If we got rid of Duff and brought in Aimar we’d be a lot stronger IMO.

Thats too bad, i would really have thought he would’ve been a great player for us, if we’d just put the money in.
I think he’s a fantastic player, and very expirienced aswell, and he would fit great into the premier league.
    Oh well, continue dreaming…

I pretty sure the club simply wasnt interested, heÅ› made it clear he would jump at the chance of joining and the price is hardly huge. I honestly think he would simply have gone through the motions, another Kluivert who has lost their love of the game but not the cash.

Thereĺl be other irons in the fire.

he would have potentially been a brilliant sugning we need some 1 that can create things from the centre of midfield which aimar as long as he could adapt to the league would have done

That would be nice. I like SWP, but I can’t see him heading for the North East. We’ve got some decent players that side of the pitch anyway.

On a more worrying note, I keep seeing the story about Duff for Anton Ferdinand. I’d rather keep Duff than have that dickhead playing for us.

I agree Tom get rid of Duff he’s less than useless. Used to ge a decnt player, not anymore. While we’re on get rid of Smith and Ameobi that sould bring in between 10 and 12 million for nnew recruits.

I cant see Wright Phillips surviving under Scholari. He’s definitely gone this summer. The reason I think its a possibility is because Keegan obviously prefers premiership players, and he knows SWP really well.

In terms of wingers Guttierez was apparantly very effective down the left last season. This makes way for one of Duff or Nzogbia to go meaning we’re left with just Milner down the right again.

The fact we’ve heard little about it is also a good sign.

Very good news, a player that never lived up to expectations, and is clearly looking for a last big pay day before he plays for Boca into retirement. He is another player that isnt much better than Emre. I want us to look for all action midfielders not just pure all out attack flair players. We need a couple of Essien types. I wish we went for Emana, Sessegnon, Diarra, Mavuba, Kallstrom, all these are possible and if we got a good holding player too would be amazing in midfield unfortunetly Mavuba just signed for Lille, but I would sign these players: Collocini/Kompany, Rat, Mavuba, Emana, Gomis. My team 451: Given, Beye, Taylor, Kompany, Rat, DM – Mavuba, AMC – Emana, AMC – Barton/Owen (off a striker like last yr), AMR: Gutierrez, AML: N’Zogbia/Milner FW – Gomis. Bench: Harper, Faye, Enrique, Butt, Viduka, Duff

He just doesnt seem to be the type of player we’re going for at the present time.

How much you reckon we’d have to cough up for SWP? £10mil? More? I think he is good target and would be a great signing for us, and its quite possible as hes not going to get a look in under Scolari and with him n KK being chums. SWP should remember that it was KK that had him playing some of the best football of his career.

@entertainers i think ya bang on there kid, he is looking for another 3 year big money contract in europe, i honestly dont think he was ever on the radar otherwise he would have signed cos teams in epl pay more bottom line… if we are gonna stay with this young policy why give loads of money to a guy who lets face it would probs be another kluivert, we had our fingers burnt once i saw kluivert on osboune road on the peev all the time whats the point???

i love zog…or used to. Was my favourite player, but Park ji Sung is all together more useful than Zog.

Can play anywhere in midfield. Is good defensively, good offensively, bags of energy and a model professional. He is the type of player who wont play a competitive match for about 3 months, and then come on and set the standard. He plays every match like a cup final
