There are reports coming out of France today, that claim Newcastle United are closely monitoring the situation of 19 year-old Lens striker Kevin Monnet-Paquet.
Kevin Monnet-Paquet – 19 year-old Lens Striker
It appears that Newcastle’s scouting network have found out that Lens forward Kevin Monnet-Paquet is unwilling to play Ligue 2 football next season with his club, RC Lens.
Lens finished 3rd bottom of the French Ligue 1 last season, and were relegated along with Strasbourg and Metz.
Newcastle United are said to be watching developments closely, and may bid for the player.
Kevin, who stands 6’0″ tall, has already played for Lens a number of times and made his debut for the club a full two years ago, he’s that good.
He has played for the French side at Under-18 and Under-19 levels, and is thought to be a top prospect for the future.
He was born in Bourgoin-Jallieu, France and turns 20 years old next month.

Comment #3Thought Babel was the new Henry…;)
Not sure how interested KK is with this fella but all the murmurings coming out of St.J’s is that we will be signing a new striker very soon!

Comment #15Supposed to be a terrific talent. Would be a great signing. My buddy’s seen him play…….he believes he is basically the French Theo Walcott as of right now. He hasn’t really proven himself but shows a terrific amount of potential. Just as quick as Walcott…..unbelievably fast.

Comment #21I’ve seen him play twice, as quick as Martins without the ball but much faster than him when he’s running with the ball at his feet, seems to have a good footballing brain too.
Similar type of player to Agbonlahor.

Comment #22I do think we need to sign a quality creative midfielder, But Aimar may have lost his hunger and edge as much as i have rated him over the years.
The lack of creativity in our centre mid is scary, Im surprised KK will santion selling Emre without having a replacement

Comment #25His technical ability is good, most forward players with a good footballing brain have good technical ability so I didn’t see the need to have to spell it out.

Comment #30hmmm, Drogba’s technical ability aint too great
me and my mates say that he has mastered the ‘accidental touch’. we say this because the ball often hits him on the back of his leg or back of his head and somehow lands in a good position, its quite odd really

Comment #35Have we signed any young midfielders yet?
Every time i read about us signing another youngster its a left sided defender, a Keeper or another striker

Comment #36Thing is though lads, something none of you have picked up on is the fact he doesn’t want to play ligue 2 football…
Fair enough, but when we’ve already got Martins, Owen and Viduka for him to compete against – will he be happy sitting on the bench?
Even more so, we’re saying he’s 1 for the future which implies reserve team football which surely is an even bigger step down for him?
He looks class, he sounds like the ideal sort of player BUT I’m just not sure he’d want to come to a team where he’d be fourth in line (even harder to break into the team if we start playing 442 again!)

Comment #37Keegan will be playing 5-0-5 at this rate in a few years! Although nevertheless, the kid would bring much needed pace to the side. Im all for it, as long as the fee isnt too large.
Martin you have a point, but if you think about it, he’ll be at a club which is massive compared to where he’s at right now. I doubt he was a regular starter at Lens as it is. The opportunity to play alongside the likes of Owen / Martins would be a massive pulling point for him. Cant see him not wanting to come even as second choice of the bench.

Comment #40Nizo – I suppose, I hope the club can sell it to him like that, I think this is deffinately the answer though…
Just reading something someone wrote about Bobby Robson on another site; some of the players he developped and nutured are ridiculous – Ruud Van Nistleroy or Ronaldo for example – if we could’ve found them as youngsters we might have ended the 40 odd year wait already!
