Fabio Zamblera Hailed As Future Newcastle Star

July 14th, 2008 · 51 Comments

We should probably have to get used to this, as Italy’s Under-19 coach has beckoned Newcastle’s 18 year-old striker Fabio Zamblera as a future great player for both Italy and Newcastle United.

Newcastle United striker Fabio Zamblera has been hailed as a future star for Italy and Newcastle United.

Ahead of the U19 European Championships, which kick off tonight, Italy U19 assistant manager Giancarlo Antognoni talked about the Italian striker:

“Zamblera is an important player for us.”

“I obviously cannot reveal if he will be in the starting XI yet but he is very talented.”

“He is one of our best players and can be a star for Newcastle United.”

It’s unfortunate that two of our other young budding stars Andy Carroll and Tamas Kadar, who  would have also been taking part in the tournament for England and Hungary respectively, and played in the preliminary games, are both out injured.

Zamblera was at Italian club Atalanta, when Newcastle signed him in January, and he has played for his country at every single level up to Under-19.

This is what Fabio said about Newcastle United after signing for the club:

“Newcastle is a very big club and it has a very impressive stadium.”

“There are lots of very good strikers at this club and I know there are famous names such as Michael Owen and Mark Viduka.”

“I can also remember Oba Martins and Emre from when they played in Italy.”

Here’s our article on the youngster after he was signed by the club.

At 6′3” tall he is a powerful and pacey player, who can score goals, and he will be developed by the club in both the Youth team and in our very young Reserve side, under the watchful eyes of Richard Money and Adam Sadler.

Fabio was born in Bergamo, Italy in April, 1990.

We’ll follow the Under-19 tournament, and obviously closely follow Italy’s progress with young Fabio. Italy face Greece on Friday in their opening group game before taking on England and Czech Republic, with the top two teams advancing to the semi-final stage of the tournament.

England have a very good side and it would not be a surprise if they win the whole thing.

Comments welcome.

    fantastic

  • 2 A geordiedoonsooth // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:07

Let’s hope he turns into a top class striker and plays for us for years

  • 3 broon ale // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:07

it was reported that he was unsettled at newcastle and wished to return home.

he only made 1 start and 3 substitute appearences, he scored 1! (a penaltly)

  • 4 Leo // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:07

how well did our scouts do last season with the young lads maybe we can be like west ham were in the past making brillient prem players…

taking away the whole selling them on ala

    lampard cole etc

  • 5 CRAIGG // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:09

    3 points Spyro

    Im most certainly no idiot

Lets see Steven Taylor in 3 years time then if he is making mistakes like last season then i will agree that he hasnt improved from his early promise.

He is much better than you give him credit for and did you not notice that both he and Faye looked a lot more assured when our midfielders retained the ball without putting constant pressure on our Centre halves.

  • 6 broon ale // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:17

CRAIGG. Am i missing something here? what has any of that got to do with fabio Zamblera?

    spyro’s commet simply says “fantastic”

have you contunued a debate from a previous topic?

  • 7 craig chisholm // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:17

i forgot about zamblera, i think that with his height etc and the potential that he has, we should not buy another tall striker but bring this guy in instead- otherwise, whats the point in having him, he’s already 19 so he should be knocking on the fitst team door now, certainly on the bench a few times.

  • 8 Davies // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:18

Is this an overflowing argument from another thread CRAIGG, if so, can you please leave it there. I’m really not interested in reading it.

As for Zamblera, he was a great buy by all accounts. Apparently he speaks Enlish with an Italian/Geordie twang. Fantastic.

I would hope that he gets more starts in the researves in the coming season, and who knows, maybe a couple of first team sub appearances.

With this lad and Carroll, we’re likely to be doing well for strikers in the future.

  • 9 WIGAZ // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:19

lets hope he progress’s well & we see him make first team appearance maybe in the cups soon!

  • 10 Spyro // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:21

Craigg, quite frankly, you bore me. Anyone who ends a discussion with comments like “im right, your wrong” isn’t worth having a dicussion with.

  • 11 Mark // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:23

Well if Zamblera tipped for greatness and Arron Spears is the next Wayne Rooney, Oba is only 23 and Carroll 19 we should have a pretty good strike force in about 3 or 4 years

  • 12 WesToon // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:23

Agreed, i dnt think ANY striker should be bought, we have plenty of young lads right on our doorstep, knocking at the door!! I say LET THEM IN!! we need LB{Shorey} couple midfielders{Inler, Aimar,Turan} Having said that,we have once again, plenty of Younger talent in this dept, also Kadar & co in that reserve defence look VERY promising!!

  • 13 WesToon // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:24

Any news on Spear??? Have we signed him??

  • 14 Bill F Splash the Cash Ash // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:26

The trouble is Broon Ale and Davies you just do not understand the mathematics of certain words. If you break down the word Fantastic into its estoteric numerical values you can see exactly why Craigg feels slighted. I really cannot see how you missed it.
It’s all predicted in the Bible code and its strange and wonderous connections with this blog.

  • 15 CRAIGG // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:31

That was said as a joke as i had to go pronto

lad i wasnt talking to you yesterday i was writing what was a probable team and you just cannot help poking fun at peoples opinions.

Have you seen Zamblera play to say he is fantastic?

    Let me guess NO

  • 16 ToonTimbo // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:34

I’m quite excted at the prospect of a potential italian superstar!! Would make newcastles scouts look great!!

talking of turan westoon - wots the situation on him??

  • 17 chuck // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:43

Speaks english with a geordie accent, poor guy !
Then again remember a certain Italian player at Rangers (now Milan) who spoke with a Glasgow accent, did`nt do his game any harm. Seriously sounds like a great aquirement as are most of the youngsters comming in and a policy
    I approve of.
My concerns are about the quality of the latest signing Guthrie also Bassong, not exactly household names , when Tom Toon has only heard of player, says it all.

  • 18 Spyro // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:44

I cant remember exactly what i said, but i probably gave a fair opinion on your team and you got offended for some strange reason. Why post up a team for everyone to see if you dont want people to comment on it?…actually please dont answer as i do no want to enter a discussion with you.

What i will say is that the comment “fantastic” is my feelings after hearing Giancarlo Antognoni’s positive comments about our young player, not my opinion of the player himself. Do not make assumptions.

  • 19 Derdi4Toon // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:45

never fancy Italian players in EPL, esp. the very young ones - if they play well they tend to dream of joining Milan or Juve, if they screw they claim homesick and may go for any of the other average teams in Serie A (well tons out there).

  • 20 Taiwantoon // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:47

Still too early to judge him, but I hope he develops well with us.

  • 21 CRAIGG // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:49

Here we go again pose a question then oh actually i am not speaking to you

    Typical little Cockney arsewipe

  • 22 NUFCAl // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:52

Personally I don’t see the point in posting a different starting XI every single time we’re linked with anyone anywhere ever.

Great to see another one of our youngsters getting rave reviews from the people that matter. First ringing endorsements for Ben Tozer and the brilliant Tamas Kadar and now this kid, howay the scouts.

  • 23 irish_al // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:58

hope w can get a few more youngsters in and maybe win the youth cup, great way to build a winning mentality for them

Zamblera should put a bit of pressure on carroll and keep him in check as it seems he does have a high opinion of himself

of the young players ive seen kadar has impressed the most, saw him at left back against liverpool near the end of the season, he seems comfortable on the ball rather than someone who whelts it up the pitch

i would like to see a couple of young midfielders either brought through or brought in and perhaps a young right back aswell

  • 24 Spyro // Jul 14, 2008 at 11:58

exactly NUFCAI, it is fantastic to hear the young ones getting positive reviews, especially since it is not as easy for a “cockney” like me to see them in the flesh

  • 25 CRAIGG // Jul 14, 2008 at 12:01

Exactly like the praise given to Steven Taylor from Bobby Robson, Peter Taylor, Kevin Keegan, Graeme Souness and Stuart Pearce

Also from Mourinho after he marked Drogba out of a match and similarily from Jol after he did the same to Berbatov

  • 26 Yahya Ahmad // Jul 14, 2008 at 12:08

Hope he is good as Giuseppe Rossi in few years time!

  • 27 JMC // Jul 14, 2008 at 12:12

in case you havent noticed Spyro and CRAIGG, you’re both batting for the same team if you get me haha

  • 28 CRAIGG // Jul 14, 2008 at 12:17

    What are you inplying

  • 29 leather // Jul 14, 2008 at 12:24

Gave Ed the info when he was due to sign, so the blog was 1st with news by a day! Seen this lad in nuffield when he was having his medical. Performance tests were- outstanding superbly fit. Is he good at football–? Several mates from Italy say he is well rated- typical English forward they say. Not ready though for another season apparently. So we do need a striker lads, can’t put to much pressure on. Em no I have not seen him play just going off others so don’t have a go. Just trying to share.

  • 30 m. // Jul 14, 2008 at 12:34

    good luck to him.

and here I am, another 17 years old italian lad, earning about £25 per week in a law office. I’d like to be at his place, surely.

  • 31 Ian // Jul 14, 2008 at 12:38

I do not know why he wasnt played more in the reserves, we could have a striker already with us who is as good as anyone, Carroll has clogged up the works we hung on to him when he hasnt made the grade and the rest are backed up behind him the youth system wont work if we keep doing that, also other players have never been tried in the first team who are decent in the reserves, why not?
Lua Lua is a good example, he shouldnt be in the reserves he belongs in the first team. We need to keep the production line moving it is almost as if they are more interested in winning the reserve matches rather than finding and developing talent to bring through to the first.

  • 32 NUFCAl // Jul 14, 2008 at 12:40

Craigg - He’s implying that you both support Newcastle United. Duuuuuuur.

Ian - agreed, neither Carroll or Edgar are good enough and the likes of Kadar, LuaLua and Zamblera will suffer because of this.

  • 33 CRAIGG // Jul 14, 2008 at 12:49

You see the end of his post “if you get me haha”

Have you never heard the expression batting for the other side?

I was asking if he was questioning my sexuality but in the future i will write LOL !!!!!!!! after my posts to tell people when im joking

  • 34 chuck // Jul 14, 2008 at 12:53

Thought some of my comments were on the negative side, but you guys can make a positive endorsment into a club policy screwup.
Lighten up folks we have a possible future star on the books.

  • 35 Kash2 // Jul 14, 2008 at 12:55

I hope big Fabio turns out to be our Luca Toni. I think Toni would be excellent in the EPL, he definitely has more ability that Crouch.

Lets all hope Fabio improves and gets the support he requires.

Has anyone seen both Zamblera and Carrol line up together? Can anyone give an indication on which plaeyer is more promising?

Ed - Is there any chance we could do a comparison between Newcastle and our rivals for UEFA cup spots in, Spurs, Portsmouth, Villa, Everton, Man City, Blackburn, West Ham.

I think you’d get alot of fan exposure on the blog and the banter maybe interesting?!

  • 36 WIGAZ // Jul 14, 2008 at 12:56

    @ derdi4toon

you dont like italian players in the prem:
    Zola
    Vialli
    Di matteo
    Di cannio
    Ravanelli (What a smelly)
    Cudichini
    Gatusso (played in SPL)

I’m not biggest fan of italian football either m8 but you have to admitt not a bad list & they all did well over here!

  • 37 toonfan1 // Jul 14, 2008 at 12:57

well done ed- 6 million hits!!

  • 38 WesToon // Jul 14, 2008 at 12:57

@ ToonTimbo, Mate i have no clue whats happened to Arda Turan news?? That kid,can become a sublime player for the Mighty Magpies!! Any1 heard the news, that we are offering Duff and cash for The other ferdinand brother(The not so good 1)?? if so,this would suit all those waiting for Arda maybe???

  • 39 Kash2 // Jul 14, 2008 at 13:01

@WesToon: We have another blogger called GSFan. He’s a Gala fan, and Turkish. He told us that Gala want to keep Arda, so that they can make an example of developing the youngsters. Apparently they have 4 youngins who have loads of potential, who they want to bring through. They want Arda to be an example for them.

He also said that one the youngsters is meant to have alot more potential that Arda. I think he was called Aydin or something!

  • 40 WesToon // Jul 14, 2008 at 13:19

@ Kash2,thanx Mate, nice 1…still Hope we could snare, maybe both Arda & this youngster Aydin!! Arda can be a role model for him here?? Sounds good to me

  • 41 leather // Jul 14, 2008 at 13:19

Kash 2 is that Mike Ashley you are on about-Aydin. Aydin all the cash I think, spend it on players Mike you know it makes sense!

  • 42 Punk Skunk // Jul 14, 2008 at 14:50

Wouldn’t mind seein’ this lad in action…He must be doing something right?..

  • 43 Hadrian // Jul 14, 2008 at 16:02

unsettled , wont be here long enough .

  • 44 AndyT // Jul 14, 2008 at 16:06

I’d love to see Keegan play this team in the League cup :)
    Krul
    Edgar Tozer Kadar Enrique
    Milner Guthrie Lua Lua NZogbia
    Zambrella Wiafe Danquah

  • 45 Matt // Jul 14, 2008 at 16:41

Where has all this talk of him being unsettled come from?

  • 46 Punk Skunk // Jul 14, 2008 at 16:44

Well, apparently, he’s good & he plays for NUFC, so therefore, he’s unsettled…QED?..

  • 47 Pricey // Jul 14, 2008 at 17:30

He sounds brill. I hope keegan plays him in one of our freindlys if he’s back in time.

  • 48 Influence raghav // Jul 14, 2008 at 18:36

he is bad.no quality ,he is going to westham like all lesser quality ones do.

  • 49 Charlie // Jul 15, 2008 at 0:26

I’m thinking we will see a lot of younger guys getting cup games this year. It might mean we got out even earlier than usual but at the same time might give the kids the games they need to develop on the big stage. Dont tell me if Fabio scored a hatrick in a cup game he would not be in the first team next week. Kids need that chance to impress and have amazing games!!

  • 50 Derdi4Toon // Jul 15, 2008 at 3:53

Wigaz got your point but Zola, Vialli, Di Matteo, Cudicini, Di Canio are all established int’l or very experienced players who came to EPL for bigger paycheck or stardom they thought they deserved but sorely missed back in Italy. And hey most played in London for Chelski!
well hv to admit that Ravanelli is quite a successful import. if Zamblera can be the new Ravan we’ll all be happy
exactly, Gattuso … once get recognized with Rangers can’t wait to go home and join Milan. well nothing wrong in this but if he isnt Italian but some Argie or African Milan might not be that interested and Rangers could retain his service for a bit longer …

  • 51 Ian // Jul 15, 2008 at 9:01

NUFCCal - it is almost as if they are frightened if someone else buys them they may end up good players isnt it??

If they sell them and they end up better players that is the way it goes, live with it.

Why we arent including Lua Lua as a first team regular already i do not know, if we think we can do better in a year or two then sell him as a first team player and start winning on some transfers.

Dr. Ed Harrison is a retired IBM Consulting Group Executive who now has time, and lots of it, after 34 years at the American computer company, to write about his lifelong passion - Newcastle United Football Club.

Ed was born and bred in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and watched his first game at St. James’ Park in 1949 as a 4 year-old with his Mother and Father. He was told to look out for number 9 - Jackie Milburn – the great Wor Jackie - and was he fast!

In football terms Ed was a goalkeeper and played for Wharrier Street Primary School and Newcastle Minors (Newcastle Schoolboys Under-11), in 1956 and went on to play for Newcastle Schoolboys and Northumberland Schoolboys (Under-15) in 1959 and an England Schoolboys trial.

He was at Newcastle United for a couple of years from 1960 as an amateur, while still at school, and played with Bobby Moncur and David Craig, amongst others, for the Newcastle United Under-18 side (Newcastle N’s in those days), during the relegation season of 1960-1961.

Ed attended Heaton Technical and Manor Park schools, and then went on to study at both King’s College, London (BSc Electrical Engineering) and Newcastle University (PhD Computer Science). He played for Newcastle Universities and England Universities from 1967 until 1970.

But a short couple of years after Ed joined IBM in 1970, he was shipped over to the USA, with his new wife Madeline, a beautiful local Newcastle lassie.

At IBM Ed was in computer systems and network design for 34 years, and in his last 10 years at the company was persuaded to enter executive management. where he ended up running IBM's Americas' Network Consulting Group for 5 years from the late 1990s, and was instrumental in forming the IBM alliance with Cisco Systems in 1999.

Ed and Madeline live just outside Raleigh in North Carolina. Their twin sons Paul and Neil, and daughter Elaine, are now in their early 30s, live close by, and Neil has carried on the family tradition by becoming an avid Newcastle United supporter.

And one final thing that is so true - you can take the boy out of Newcastle but you can't take Newcastle out of the boy!

    Howay The Lads!!
