Aimar On Way To Sign For Newcastle After Medical

As we had suggested yesterday, Newcastle made a £7M bid for Pablo Aimar and seemed in the driving seat to capture the Argentine star.

Pablo Aimar – Argentine on way to Newcastle for medical

It now looks like Pablo Aimar will be signing for the Newcastle club, probably today, after he undergoes a medical at the club – and it’s a brilliant move by the club.

The Daily Mirror is reporting in an exclusive, and we believe their report, that Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan is about to sign Argentine star Pablo Aimar in a £7M deal, which will be the biggest signing he has made since returning to the club in January.

We believe Newcastle made a definite move on Sunday night for the player, and all events since then have suggested a Premier club was negotiating with Real Zaragoza and the player, and we were sure that club was Newcastle.

Newcastle have already agreed a price with Spanish club Real Zaragoza and have moved with tremendous speed when they had to, right under the noses of Portsmouth, Sunderland and Benfica, and were willing to pay the slightly increased fee of £7M, that Portsmouth had balked at.

Aimar is 28 years old and is a Keegan-type attacking player.  He was getting close to joining Benfica, more as a default move, but Newcastle made their move, and we think he’ll become a Newcastle player, maybe even today, after undergoing a medical.

Agents for Aimar are due to fly into Newcastle today and close the deal, and since the policy of Newcastle is not to announce anything until it’s all complete, we may still not hear anything from the club today – but we hope to.

We still need to be a little cautious, but we expect the deal to go through, since the hard work has already been done.

We believe that signing Aimar, a player with the football skills and talent that Newcastle fans just love, will be a popular signing for the club, and may rid the club of rumors they are not willing to pay out the cash to attract the players they want and need this summer.

It’s been a very frustrating summer for Newcastle fans, but let’s give credit where credit is due and Keegan, Wise and the rest of the recruitment team have done one fabulous job in getting Aimar – a great great signing for the club.

Credit is due to Dennis Wise, Tony Jimenez and Jeff Vetere, along with Kevin for pulling off this deal – which will be great news for Newcastle fans everywhere.

The first three, and particularly Dennis Wise, have come in for lots of undeserved criticism this summer, but this is great work.

Some good news on the transfer front, at last.

Comments welcome.

It isn’t a great signing until he has signed! It is a fantastic possibility, but until it is on nufc.co.uk I am not getting too excited. Modric anyone?

If he does come, I just hope he can adapt to this league…

Birmingham City chairman David Gold won’t consider selling midfielder Sebastian Larsson.
Swedish midfielder Larsson has been targeted by Wigan, Newcastle and Blackburn.
Gold said: “Seb will leave over my dead body. He’s vital to us.”

Things are looking gr8 for the toon,Aimar on his day is as good as any of the best playmakers in the world, and with Keegan playing in a similar position as Aimar,i can think of no1 better,to rediscover the TRUE Pablo Aimar

Well, I’m sceptical, but like other people have been saying, we spent 6m on Smith last year, so maybe it’s worth the gamble on Aimar.

I just think the only place he can play is behind the front two in the hole (currently Owen’s position), and will this mean that Owen and Martins will be playing up front together? Cos I’m not convinced they can.

But hey, if he does sign, I’ll back him all the way, and maybe, just maybe, he’ll be the creative influence we’ve been crying out for.

To those who ever doubted Keegan.
    Allardyce = Smith & Barton 12M
    KK = Jonas and Aimar !! 10M

    Workaday Allardyce
    World class Keegan.

Let’s become ARGENTOONA as somebody on here cleverly coined the other day. Collocini, Insua and Saviola to follow please!!

I hope the Mirror has got it right for once. This would be a great capture for KK. Saw De Jong on UTube and he looks good too. It is a Sun report so caution is needed on that one. It is said that Anton Ferdinand has pulled out of (non-existent?) talks with NUFC. He does not like the north-east apparently – prefers to be in the east end of London near the smelly Thames! We did not want him and nobody was talking to him anyway. Come on Aimar – hope you REALLY are on your way to NUFC.

If we could get De Jong alongside Aimar, we would once again, truly have a world class midfield, BUT, i do expect KK to have the defence in mind next.
We could also use a target man, type of striker. One that’s good with the head, and can hold the ball well.
We surely wont have problem sending up the ammunition now.
One CB, an LB and RB, plus one striker, and we’re set, in my opinion.

For the likes of Smith, Geremi, Barton, Duff and even the aging Butt to be phased out by the likes of these is fantastic news. Just hope they are not season ticket sweeteners and do have some substance to the rumours. As well as de Jong and Aimar, apparently we are also in for Mattias Fernandez.

still can’t believe this. a decent player but a bit of a gamble at 7m given his physique and age. 5m + 2m dependent on performance / appearance much more reasonable. even if he signs hope it doesn’t mark the end of our search for talented attacking players this summer.

His agent has used newcastles name to drum up further interest in his player as he must think he can get a better deal than what benfica are offering. If this wasnt the case surely his agent would have kept quiet and just sort the newcastle transfer out. Having had a quick look on youtube he looks skillful but lightweight. Strange that there arent any big teams after him.

Looks like we wont be getting Bridge. He has just signed a four year deal at Chelski. I say that we give Kadar the opportunity. He might be green but I think he would step up to the job fine. Remember Krul in our European match (Palermo I think). He played out of his skin and was amazing. The Bull is a great LB and will only get better so why not give the just-in-case-bench-warmer job to Kadar?

28 i can’t believe people are concerned about his age. He should be in his Prime. Gerrard is the same age,Liverpool fans aren’t cryin about his age. Ballack is older and i’d have him. The age is not a problem. He’s got atleast 4 years of good quality football left in him. Just look at what Beardo and Gery Speed did

I may be a bit behind here, but has anybody seen Humberto Andres Suazo Pontivo aka Chupete?

Striker at CF Monterry. He’s Chilean, but playing in Mexico. 27, but absolutely deadly apparently. His stats are ridiculous. Even when he suffered loss of form a couple of years ago and had a huge attitude problem, he held a press conference to apologise for it, and then went on to score 16 goals in the following 19 games.

I can’t help but think he’d be something Keegan would be interested in.

    Tom-toon?

On topic, I don’t care about Aimar until I see him wearing black and white, or the official website has something more to say on the matter.

    IF the deal completes.
