Newcastle Transfer Business Going Into Overdrive

We have heard rumors over the last two days, from some of our readers, that Newcastle United are close to signing three new players this week.

Nigel De Jong tacking that Russian fella

While we don’t know if this is true, it does come from people who work within the club, and the news today on Pablo Aimar, and Nigel De Jong suggest that Newcastle are getting close to signing some players, before the end of the week.

Let’s be clear, if we can sign Aimar and De Jong for a combined £10M, that is good business in anybody’s eyes.

Newcastle will not participate in the madness seemingly being reported in the transfer market that Robinho is worth £48M, and even Robbie Keane, who Graeme Souness was interested in during January 2006, for just £5M, is said to possibly bring £20M, seems so over the top.

There’s no way these players are worth that amount of money, and the deals will not go through for that type of money.

But to suggest paying £20M for Keane is more than ridiculous, because he’s not worth that money, although he’s still a very good player.

We’d rather see the club buy some of the players they are after for £2M-£5M, because there seem to be many of them available this summer, and they could turn out to be excellent players for Keegan.

A huge transfer buy doesn’t mean it’s a good buy, and in fact in Newcastle’s case it generally means the opposite, if our history is anything to go by.

We are after Aimar and De Jong and it looks like Anton Ferdinand doesn’t want to come to Newcastle.

That’s not a blow to most Newcastle fans, since 61% in our poll don’t think Ferdinand would be a good buy for Newcastle.

If we are to bring in a young defender we’d much rather go after 20 year-old Jonny Evans from the Red Devils. Since Sunderland seem to be after 27 year old Romanian Dorin Goian, that could mean they are no longer interested in Evans, and could possibly leave the way open for Newcastle.

Newcastle need to look at some defensive captures and at the very least we will need to bring in a left back and a central defender.

We do have 6′ 2″ Metz defender Sebastien Bassong on trial at the club this week, so the three signings could well be Aimar, De Jong and Bassong, all good captures, and Bassong would cost Newcastle no more than £3M.

Things may be looking up by the time we play Hartlepool United on Saturday, and if we can get these signings done and dusted, Newcastle fans could be feeling a whole lot better very soon.    😀

What do you think?

I think it would be great to see 3 players this week, it seems like we’ve been waiting for a long time and then three come along at once.

Well….I’d love for all this to be true 🙂
It’s starting to get a bit exciting now isn’t it. Sign Aimar and De Jong and I’d have an excuse to get pissed this weekend at the pub….wait a minute…I never needed an excuse before.

But in all sobreity…if we can get Aimar and Keegan can get him playing fantasy stuff again…and De Jong to add some stability…who knows….top 6 finish and who says the entertainers can’t be back.

p.s. and just to piss people off…..wall virginity …woo hoo

An Argentine midfield at the Toon with Aimar and Spiderman, who’d have thought it.

By the way, Sorin was released by his club yesterday and is looking for a new club.

yeah doug i saw the training pic’s on nufc.co.uk – milner is 16…Is that sentimental? because I’d have thought he’d get a 2-11 number before guthrie!

If these targets DO come I’m going to have the biggest, fattest, smuggest smile on my face for the rest of the week – all the doubters, the wingers, the pessamist will HAVE to start appreciating the club’s work…If they don’ come then I guess you can winge away…

The Sun weren’t saying that Keane would cost 60 million. They were just saying that this is the combined total of all of his transfers if he went to Liverpool for 2o mil.

    Agreed Jonny Evans over Anton

Danny, KK obviously will and thats good enough for me.
Kris patience has cost us in the past we need to move now.
We are no longer taken for mugs in the transfer market wher selling clubs can hike up the fees just cos we were interested in a player, hence a few good aquisitions so far and not the crazy lay out and wages of the past.
Those days long gone hopefully cos it didn’t bring success.

    Signed: Jonas, Guthrie
Possible: Aimar, De Jong and Bassong.

What is everyone getting so excited about? There’s not a lot of Premiership experience in that lot and I’m not convinced this group are going to give us the edge needed over Spurs, Villa and Pompey.

    Does anyone agree?

As i said before, Bassong came through the Metz ranks a played more towards the end of last season. He is a left footed CB, but can and did play LB for Metz on occasions. He is very very quick, and good in the air. His main weakness from my viewing is that he can be a little panicky sometimes maybe it was first season nerves not sure. He also isnt the commanding type, he is someone to play alongside an organiser, but still a very promising defender. Better than Cacapa, and potentially a top CB has all the attributes required.

Have you all seen the photos on the official site? I am pleased the lads look like they’re having a laugh etc but was slightly concerned at the seemingly non-show of our club captain.

Can any of you shed any light on Mr Owen’s whereabouts?

I think getting both in would be good although there height is an issue. I would like us to sign a top top CB. As James says getting Sorin on a free also would be a great addition for LB competition as well as the fact he can play DM, and LW also as he did at Villareal. I would also like a top striker too. I think Bassong is more of a future or bit part player as is Guthrie rather than staring each week. If we get in Aimar, De Jong, Mathijsen, Sorin, Gomis, and Bassong I would be more optimistic.

Obviously Ronaldo aside – Santa Cruz, Torres, Sanga, Clichy etc.

On the other hand Alan Smith has about 7 years prem experience…enough said!
