Oba Martins Very Happy At Newcastle

July 16th, 2008 · 128 Comments

Reports today that Newcastle Nigerian-born striker Obafemi Martins has dismissed speculation that he wants to leave the club.

Oba Martins - very happy at Newcastle United

Martins insists he is ready to stay at Newcastle for the duration of his contract, and he told Sky Sports News today:

“It is good to know where I am going to be because I am still a Newcastle player and I really want to play for Newcastle,”

“I really love the fans as well and I have three years contract so for now I really don’t know what is going on.”

“There is talk about Arsenal, which is a good thing because they play in the UEFA Champions League.”

“But for now I am a Newcastle player and I will stay here for three years.”

“I am happy, very happy.”

Sky Sports then asked him if he would be interested in a move to Arsenal, and Martins told them:

“It is up to Newcastle. I still have three more years left and I really want to play for Newcastle.”

“I want to my best to help them into Europe.”

Well said Oba - and we wish the media would now stop all the rumors about him moving to Arsenal, because everybody and their grandfather know it will not happen.

But we all know there will be another report in the press, within a week or two, starting it all over again - and probably sensationally reported in The Sun, as an exclusive.

That”news” has been going the rounds for over a year now, would you believe.

Comments welcome.

I hope he’s here longer than three years, let’s match his ambition and then some.

  • 2 AndyNUFC // Jul 16, 2008 at 19:42

Bet he’s going to love being a sub next season.

    Oba, Oba Fem!
    Oba, Oba Fem!
    Oba, Oba Fem!
    Obafemi Martins!

  • 4 Ally // Jul 16, 2008 at 19:43

We must do all we can to keep players of Obas stature, so this is great news.

  • 5 meiny_obano9 // Jul 16, 2008 at 19:44

GETTIN. oba better stay. our best player i think. cmon kev we need aimar to set oba up so he can score more.

  • 6 ToonTex // Jul 16, 2008 at 19:48

Oba can only get better. Playing with Owen for a few years will really pay off for him. Could be a monster for us before all is said and done. Go on son!!! You look great in the stripes!!!

  • 7 Toonboy // Jul 16, 2008 at 19:48

Old news he wasnt ever gonna leave :-)

  • 8 Nick C // Jul 16, 2008 at 19:50

Aye, its really good of him to pledge his future to us when no one else wants him. Don’t be fooled. He would love to go to Arsenal.

  • 9 Matty // Jul 16, 2008 at 19:52

I am happy, vey happy to hear this from Oba! BUT, we knew this all along. Oba is a Geordie!!

  • 10 Chris F // Jul 16, 2008 at 19:56

i watched this “interview” on Sky Sports News earlier, and frankly it was pretty shameful reporting on their part.

you could tell from the way questions were worded and asked, they were trying their best to get him to say he would like to play for arsenal.

“If arsenal sold adebayor, and bid for you, and newcastle accepted the bid….would you play for arsenal?”

i mean, could there be a more loaded question than that? what a joke they are.

  • 11 Nick C // Jul 16, 2008 at 19:56

He doesn’t mind it here. Would just prefer the Gunners. Sorry to tell you…

  • 12 irish geordie // Jul 16, 2008 at 19:59

Anyone know anything about alexis sanchez? Would he be worth a bet for the toon???? Can anyone tell me where the best hotel to stay would be in newcastle? Long time newcastle utd supporter just want to see my first live newcastle match this season.

  • 13 stumpofthetoon // Jul 16, 2008 at 19:59

he is our best striker hungry young and not just after the money

  • 14 Chris // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:00

Yeah I saw that aswell Chris F, blatently trying to put words in his mouth. They’re no better than the scummy newspapers.

  • 15 9 Shearer // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:00

I knew he was staying. Arsenal cant match his wages.

  • 16 ChrisP // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:03

i dont see how he fits in with owen.

shows alot of talent, id say even more than owen but owen always seems to find the net where as oba doesnt seem to be the same. could see him being amaze with a tall striker tho.

  • 17 Nick C // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:04

If Wenger wanted him he would be gone. Stop deluding yourselves.

  • 18 JJ // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:06

If Keegan picks his side on performance, Owen should be sitting bench ahead of Oba. He offers more than Owen in terms of pace and unsettling the defense. It is his movement and presence which made Owen most of his goals.
I still like him and the Duke upfront. Aimar behind. Although wudda prefered Gudjohnssen there.

  • 19 Irish_toon // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:06

IMHO our most valuable player in the squad, better than owen in my opinion…and at the moment the only player in our squad who other teams would b afraid to play against….that is of course untill Aimar signs :) .

@Chris F I agree that the interview was badley done but am happy to see he managed all the questions well and didn’t give them the sensational news they wanted.

  • 20 ToonTimbo // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:08

Oba knew what they were trying to do!! He was trying not to smile at how foward the questions were!!

However, i was still not convinced!! wot have we been saying about De Jong today!! Of course hes not gunna admit it!! think about it!!!

  • 21 Pricey // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:09

well in oba, you’ve got to fight for your place. And for bollox sake will the media shut the focking face about theese ours

  • 22 Chris F // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:09

Nick C, no one is saying he wouldn’t go if arsenal bid for him and we accepted, but the fact is they haven’t and he is more than happy where he is right now.

I saw his interview on Sky. He didn’t exactly sound all that excited. I know he’s low key off the pitch, but his buddies back in Africa are probably telling him he needs to go to Le Arse

  • 25 Punk Skunk // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:12

Sly sports are as bad as the rags…murdoch owns it, ’nuff said!..
…Are they on the payroll of arse, manc, etc?..

  • 26 Irish toon9 // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:13

Do yas think oba will get in the side this year if Aimar signs and we play 4-4-2 / 4-4-1-1?? i hope he does as hes one of a handfull of players that we have with genuine pace which is what we need in this league

  • 27 Irish_toon // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:17

    Oba for president

  • 28 Punk Skunk // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:20

Oba & Owen are very different…
…Oba scares defenses with his pace & unpredictability…& Rocket-launcher…Where as
Owen can punish you with his poachin’ ability & he’s still very quick, gettin’ in front of the defender to score!..& scores some great headers when he has ‘no right’ to beat a player 6″ taller!..

  • 29 Neptoon // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:22

hey guys. Toon supporter from Nepal (going to College in the States right now). I’ve been following this blog for quite sometime now, so I thought it was time I got more involved.
Just being more optimistic,if you’ve watched the “In the picture section” in nufc.co.uk, theres a line that says “Gaffer still looking to add new faces to his squad before the big kick off”. What do you lads say abt that??

  • 30 Irish Toon9 // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:25

Does anyone else get fraustrated with oba when he receives the ball up front in acres of space with 2 defenders in front of him and he holds the ball up rather than knocking the ball past them when he is going to beat them with his pace…bloody annoys me that does..everything else i like

  • 31 Irish Toon9 // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:27

Neptoon - ive been doing the same and had to put a bit of input in here!

  • 32 Obafan // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:27

Oba is outstanding; in his comments, in his passion, in his goals he scores, … What a player to have in your team. He defo can play together with MO in a 4-4-2 formation. As long as they got a midfield that can create danfger by giving through passes. If Aimar comes it looks really good for those 2 upfront.

    Gutierrez (known for assists)
Aimar (fantastic player to play in a free role behind the 2 strikers)
Duff (will get his level back next season, thrust my words)
    N’Zogbia (can create danger)
Milner (sometimes he gets a good cross)
Geremi (reads the game very well and gave a few assists at the end of last season)
    Guthrie (don’t know)

    Come on you Toon!

  • 33 harrier // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:29

UGH apparently a quote from Aimar:

“Luckyly, throughout my race I have been able to choose where to play. It had other proposals, but always I have wanted the Benfica”
(this was translated from an argentinian website)

Most press in argentina portugal and brazil saying he is about to sign for benefica

  • 34 Irish_toon // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:29

    @ Neptoon
sounds like more good news is to come, well at least i hope it does but i’m sure we will get a few more really quallity buys, the likes of which that will any spurs fans cough *fernando* cough jelous as hell!!!!

P.s. Neptoon u sound like a really nice guy ( just thought i’d say

  • 35 Punk Skunk // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:31

Welcome Neptoon & you Irish Toon9!..
…Yea, Oba still has stuff to learn, i think he gets caught in 2 minds sometimes!..
…& yea, still a few players required here!..

    …Ho’way the Lads!..

  • 36 Irish Toon9 // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:33

Obafan - but i dont see Aimar playing in center midfield as he doesnt fight enough especially needed in PL..think he’ll only be used in a free role if we play 4-4-1-1 or last seasons 4-3-3..and i doubt we will play 4-3-3 this season from the start..i agree though we need him in our side

  • 37 Irish Toon9 // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:34

    :)
Happy he came out and said this tho

  • 39 brave new toon // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:40

At the moment, of coarse all our players would jump at the chance to join one of the top four.. It’s humun nature.. like taking a promotion at work.. toon’s job is to persuade Oba, mo, tayls, zog etc to hang around for a year or two… Till we win the league.
Oba is a legend,.. and will score 20 goals next year.. As pointed out previously, we don’t nessasarly need a target man, as long as the midfield arcatects suite that stlye of play…. Ahem… Aimar, Jonas, Turan

  • 40 brave new toon // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:44

    Irish Toon,
I dissagree with previous comment.. I’ve seen Aimar play many times, and am always amazed by the ‘fight’ in the lad.. he’s very slight, but battles like a terrier. you don’t play for the argies 70 odd times by being a tart!

  • 41 Obafemi Martins // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:45

Why didn’t you lot just ask me if I was staying? I would have told you. Hehehe. Just messin with ye ;-)

Whitters - easily the best chant, I love it!

    Obafemi Martins!

The simple ones are the best.

  • 42 stumpofthetoon // Jul 16, 2008 at 20:46

but at least he comes out says he wants to play for the toon. He is on no where near wot owen is on. and he says nothing just waiting to get the most money as possible. even football is enugh has to own his own horses. and gamble thousands away

Chris F, (@22) Most of the time I just read this stuff. Some people talk a lot of sense and quite a few have incredibly blind optimism. One of my close family members knows Martins. Basically what you surmise is spot on - he doesn’t mind it here but would jump if Arsenal in particular wanted him.
I just find all the people saying he is passionate and loyal a bit much to take. Possibly cos I have an inside track on the story, but also because i can’t help but feel a little disillusioned at the way things seem to turn out on Barrack Road.

  • 48 NEZSURF // Jul 16, 2008 at 21:10

nick c tend to agree, unfortunately oba might leave at the very end of the window to arse or liverpool who both could be looking for a striker by then. He might be used to part fund our forays into the transfer market. Owen is KK’s no. 1 with a target man next to him attacking crosses from out wide. If we are to buy aimar, it would suggest we are gonna go 4-4-2. Hopefully we keep oba coz it would give us more fluid attacking options going forward, allowing us to to play the owen, vid, oba combination making us much more dynamic and unpredictable to opposing teams.

  • 49 brave new toon // Jul 16, 2008 at 21:11

I know what yu mean Irish Toon, but I think Viana just lacked the heart.. Altough I didn’t admit it to myself for ages.. I remember sooo wanting him to be good! ha, Honestly Aimar is differant, reminds me a bit of the smoggies juninho,. can’t wait to see he fly around st james, riding challanges… Any case he’ll always have Beye and Talys to back him up if the going gets rough! lol

irish geordie im not sure if you have had your question answered regarding hotels in newcastle…

two on the keyside which are good are the copthorne(not sure about the spelling went there for a wedding reception)

or the malmason again i know this from word of mouth and not sure of the spelling, there is a premier inn just up from the courts up from the keyside which is good for a little walk into town.

for if you are staying there just to then go to the football and then travel home there is a travel in next to the airport which is a small 5min drive from the stadium, there are novotel and a formula one hotel just in kingston park which are cheaper and have easy access to town, easier than the airport…

hope that helps, any questions im hear for ya, and i hope you enjoy your first game live matey

Actually the newest version of the news is that Aimar has joined Benfica.

It may hurt the morale a bit, but 7M is not a small figure for a 28-year-old lad.

Surprises usually come out by the end of the weeks as the deals of Jonas Gutierrez and Danny Guthrie. NUFC is good in working in the background.

    From Setanta

Aimar won’t be going to Newcastle
by Tom Kell, 16 July 2008

Any hopes Newcastle had of launching a late bid for Pablo Aimar have been scuppered by the news that the Argentina international is poised to complete his protracted move to Benfica.

Reports surfacing in the early part of this week had claimed that Kevin Keegan was set to step up his interest in the Real Zaragoza midfielder.

Aimar’s agent went so far as to suggest on Tuesday that Newcastle were serious contenders for the player’s signature.

However, Benfica have agreed a fee of €7.5 million (£5.9m) with Zaragoza and Aimar will be officially unveiled on Thursday pending the successful completion of a medical.

“Fortunately, I have always been able to choose where to play in my career. I had other offers, but I always wanted Benfica,” he said.

Aimar’s name has also been linked with a move to Everton for much of the summer but, following weeks of negotiations, it is in Portugal where he will be plying his trade next season.

    Also from Setanta

    Aimar cool on exit talk
by Laurent Picard, 16 July 2008

Newcastle target Pablo Aimar will join Real Zaragoza for a pre-season camp while his agent discusses a move with a host of clubs.

The talented Aimar is on his way to Covaleda with the Blanquiazules and there is the possibility of him playing in the Spanish second division next season.

The transfer market will close on August 31 and the midfielder, who is in contact with Benfica, understands talks are underway between his representative and interested parties.

“I enter the bus and go the pre-season camp with my team Zaragoza,” he told Marca.

“For sure meetings will decide whether I’m staying or not and for the moment I’m a Zaragoza player and I’m going to the camp because the coach wants me to be there.”

The Argentina international says he would have no problems playing in the second tier of Spanish football.

When asked if he would rather play in England or Portugal, Aimar said: “I don’t want to speak about it as long as those things are not firm.”

  • 83 ToonKing // Jul 16, 2008 at 21:55

not really gutted that we lost Aimar, we can do better.

He’s game wasn’t living up to his name in recent years.

  • 84 Back-In-Toon // Jul 16, 2008 at 21:56

Just translated some Benfica blog entries and articles and it says Aimar has signed for 4 years, according to Spanish press that have contacted them, if the Spanish press is as bad as ours then it could well be a load of crap, think we are just gonna have to wait and see lads, but im expectin the headlines to read tomorrow that Benfica have signed him.

  • 85 Geordie Nick // Jul 16, 2008 at 21:56

i reckon we werent willing to meet his wage demands, i mean he said last week he wanted to wait and see if ther were offers from england, then supposedly was in talks with us 2day, then all of a sudden he signs for benfica and states tht he always wanted to sign for them anyway.

  • 86 Patrick // Jul 16, 2008 at 21:56

so… what is the truth? I’d rather wait for Benfica/Zaragoza/Newcastle’s official news.

If he just wants money, why would we still want him?

  • 87 donegal toon // Jul 16, 2008 at 21:57

and i wonder what they mean by “launch a late bid” as in an actual offer (the 7 million) or a late bid meaning you know gave everything or whatever

    if the former then ?

and we know how quotes can be misconstrued/completely made up 100%

  • 88 Tom_Toon // Jul 16, 2008 at 21:59

glad we didnt get him , i was sceptical from the beginning.

  • 89 ronaldeano // Jul 16, 2008 at 21:59

Im will very nearvous at the end of this window is tight Ashley keeps on losing our targets because he wont pay the money for good players. Next season will be the same as the last if we dont get some experienced first team players in the bag :(

  • 90 Ally // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:00

if we are not willing to spend and get to the next level it is just gonna be another mediocre season, this hurts

  • 91 KKK // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:00

Guys i think if Keegan really wanted this guy he would have got him. Not once during this Aimar saga have we heard anything from the club to even suggest a bid was accepted never mind agreeing a transfer. We have someone else lined up no doubt. Someone younger, better and with lots of potential.

  • 92 DURhamTOON // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:02

ive decided im not commenting on anything now until we sign someone

    ps i’m really pi$$ed off

  • 93 figsdad // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:02

we will have a attacking midfielder lined up without the ronnie gill knowing about it,

watch this space in the next couple of days…

  • 94 ronaldeano // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:03

We hear nothing from the club because it makes us look bad if we went public for one of are targets and we lose them to other clubs, just like what has happend with Aimar and Modric.

  • 95 Ally // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:03

DURhamTOON agreed mate im totally pi$$ed off aswell

  • 96 ronaldeano // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:05

It is all paper speculation anyway.

We will hear about our next signing from NUFC.CO.UK. Nobody elce

  • 97 Patrick // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:05

    @ronaldeano

But both Modric and Aimar are not PL proven.

esp Aimar coming from a regulated side in Spain… I’d say he doesn’t worth anyways.

  • 98 Patrick // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:07

    @ronaldeano and all others

    Yes. Let’s trust nufc.co.uk ONLY.
Remember what happen in Danny Guthrie and Jonas Gutierrez’s deals??? NOTHING from the outside source and they just happened!

  • 99 Howie // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:07

for 7million i was very doubtful about this transfer. i fear his career is going backwards in the manner patrick kluiverts did once he hit 26-27 and we know how successful he was. yes i would have loved to have seen aimar in the black and white jersey to see if king kev could have turned his career around and make him a star again but theres definetly other options available. if hes so good why wouldnt other top english sides be after him. to be honest id rather we paid 7million on a quality holding midfielder or centre half

  • 100 ToonTimbo // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:09

We’ve all changed our tune inside well an hour!! It was soo very funny reading over all of the comments before and after!! look at my last one (46) and read the ones after!! :D

back on subject, who’s nxt i wonder - kaka??

  • 101 KKK // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:11

I totally agree Patrick. Would love it if we signed some amazing attacking midfielder (Van Der Vaart) tomorrow and make the media look stupid.

  • 102 Patrick // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:12

    @ToonTimbo

When I saw “Exclusive” for the news that we would have signed Aimar, I was thinking about if it’s true but I accepted that and already thought a lot about it.

Guess I don’t know the UK media business that well coz I am from US.

  • 103 Michael // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:15

He has a terrible first touch and doesn’t use his pace as well as he should. But the potential is all there.

  • 104 micknufc // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:15

whey im off to bed now geting picked up at 330 in the morn to take the bairns on holiday, should know better at my age to believe that shit!
but i was just hoping we had pulled off a signing of a creative midfielder.but i must admit for all my knowledge of football.i knew little of this lad

  • 105 ToonTimbo // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:15

Howie!! Didnt you watch any maches last year!! Under big sam we were so shocking partly due to the fact we had no creativity!! then kev came along and it was the same!! Then we started to play really good stuff with no creative midfielders - just imagine what we could be like with one! That why i think at 7 million Aimar would have been a great signing and brought a lot to Newcastle!! I’m guuted tbh!!

  • 106 Patrick // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:15

    @KKK

Yes that’s possible as I haven’t seen much news going on for VDV’s transfer except that Hamburg is making him the new captain and he wanna play for Real Madrid according to his mate Sneijder. All speculations.

Or we are going to sign someone more effective than VDV. Who knows? The media world, by the way, is full of fake news.

  • 107 Dan13 // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:15

tomorrow is going to be a big day for us toon fans
    I have a funny feeling
DOn’t ask me what i know that you’s don’t coz its just a prediction:)

  • 108 Tom_Toon // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:17

I predict we will sign Afellay or Matias Fernandez.

  • 109 titchytom // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:18

If it’s in the papers it’s not true. nobody knew about gutierrez and only heard about the guthrie deal a couple of hours before he actually signed.

The club are at last going about their business without telling the world first and either increasing the cost of the players they’re after or looking like we’ve been knocked back when they fail to get the player

  • 110 ToonTinka // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:20

Actually I ain’t to bothered about Aimar I was a little scepticle. The misery is that we just can’t seem to attract anyone to the club at the moment given our form in recent seasons. I think it’s fair to say we are struggling now to bring the class that is needed.

  • 111 Patrick // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:21

This is not the first time we are “missing” someone. Remember Inler? We were about to sign him then the Spanish or Italian club said nothing happened. Agents are businessmen who can be playing a lot of tricks to put up the values of the woeful players. They can earn much more because of that. It’s not the players’ fault though.

Bringing the money-eaters is of coz the problem! Lads like Robinho worths 48M? No way! 11 Pele or Cruyff can’t make a good team, so let’s see what KK really needs!

  • 112 ToonKing // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:22

that would be great Tom_Toon ……especially Fernandez……can’t really see it happening though…..

  • 113 sweendog // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:23

Well it looks like he’s signed for benfica
http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=779440 .. I still think KK wants that playmaker from Valencia anyway.

  • 114 sweendog // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:24

Matias Fernandez is his name .. apologies, plays for villareal not valencia

  • 115 Patrick // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:25

He was in Zaragoza, not Valencia though. His best days with Valencia was passed and he ended up with regulation with Zaragoza. (talking about Aimar)

Matias Fernandez… let me search for him on youtube when I have time.

  • 116 sweendog // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:30

patrick no worries … as for Fernandes I think KK can pull it off .. as ever though you don’t know who else is in for him.

  • 117 ToonKing // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:31

Matias Fernandez is brilliant, an absolute beast on the ball, deadly free kicks and insane skills……and by that i mean INSANE skills, rabona’s , 360’s, stepover’s, Maradona style beating the whole team by myselef trick……brilliant brilliant player.

i just love that signature trick of his when he simulates the rabona and then let’s the ball run …great.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXA8A9A3RU0

would give my left bollock for him…….

  • 118 sweendog // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:34

I defo think we’re in for him, aimar looks to be more of a red herring I think .. as ever we trying to keep the big teams in the dark on our proposed targets..

  • 119 Back-In-Toon // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:35

For all those saying that we cant attract good players,
We just signed the best right winger in La Liga last season (according to the main la liga commentator and other sources) Jonas Gutierrez, from a team that finished 7th, and also he paid off his contract, so we were able to get him to join us even though he and real mallorca had a great season, and he even paid off his contract to join us!

This shows that we CAN attract good players, so stop getting so down and dont listen to the press, yeah Aimar could of been a great signing, but untill its on nufc.com dont believe a word.

KK will get someone with better potential and younger, you wait and see.

  • 120 ToonTimbo // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:36

    http://www.metacafe.com/watch/254760/matias_fernandez/

Here we are!! the one toon king sent wasnt loading!!

  • 121 Patrick // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:37

    thanks for the reference!

  • 122 Tom_Toon // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:39

Id still go in for Eremenko Jr.

  • 123 sweendog // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:40

Fernandes is pure class .. did you see Toonkings link on youtube .. the second clip (flick).. awesome.

  • 124 ToonKing // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:44

i wouldn’t Tom_Toon, Eremenko i admit i saw little of, but he didn’t seem that great to me tbh.

  • 125 sweendog // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:44

Fernandez edges it for me .. but as ever you don’t know how the S. Americans do in the premiership ..

  • 126 Tom_Toon // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:47

Eremenko will be cheap and his free kicks (delivery and direct) are perfect, i’ve only seen him for Finland though, not his club.

  • 127 ToonKing // Jul 16, 2008 at 22:48

    yeah me too

  • 128 domtoon // Jul 16, 2008 at 23:20

If Oba came out and signed a 10 year contract for the Toon stating unequivically that he love Tyneside and wanted to live, play, and die here, there would STILL be storied in the Sun, NOTW and other such sh**rags that he wanted to go to Arsenal, or any other such ‘big’ club.

He knows if he left, he would not have the same fanbase as he does at the Toon. He will grow and grow as a fan favourite and he knows it. He will keep scoring wonder goals, and with KK bringing in the fresh talent, you just know good things are ahead.

This guy is pure, and in time, it will show.

    TRUST.
