Newcastle Said To Have Warnock Bid Rejected

There are reports today that Newcastle United have had a bid for Blackburn Rovers’ former Liverpool left back Stephen Warnock rejected.

Stephen Warnock – good player but unlikely to leave Blackburn

The Times is reporting today that Newcastle placed a £3M bid for the full-back, but the offer was not surprisingly turned down by the Ewood Park club.

We’re a bit late trying to sign Warnock, since he was available from Liverpool for around £1.5M 18 months ago, when Mark Hughes picked him up at a bargain £1.5M, and he’s played well for Blackburn ever since – another great buy by Hughes.

Stephen had joined Liverpool back in 1998 as a 16 year-old youngster.

Many Newcastle fans at the time wondered why Newcastle hadn’t moved for the player, but it looks like his price has doubled, and we’re not at all surprised that Blackburn have rejected the bid.

Obviously Newcastle need to sign at least two defenders this summer, a left back to challenge the impressive Spaniard Jose Enrique, and a center-back to replace the departed David Rozehnal, Peter Ramage and Lamine Diatta.

The search obviously continues.

Comments welcome.

Not that good a rather ordianary player not better than Insua, and Brownrob you are dreaming too much lol, we will sign one more 1mill type players and play Man U and get beat 6-1 or something and go on a bad streak. i just hope we get the player KK wants not just a player as he missed out on everyone due to there unforgiveable slowness on Modric and Asharvin, nothings been said about Zhirkov hes a LB but him his price may be down now with Turan too.

I’m surprised we bid. He’s too good to be a back-up to Enrique. Does this mean Enrique is off?

Is it just me or is anyone else becoming frustrated at this blog. I mean, i do like coming on here and hearing the latest gossip but i think ed takes the gossip as gospel and relays that back to us supporters as truth. Like yesterday claiming we’re signing De Jong and Aimar. I think that you should wait till the news is concrete before saying anythin but continue to add the speculation to the blog, but not ‘sexed up’ as you do

Not that fussed on missing Warnock. Still plenty of time and plenty of good options left available. Let’s not panic.

I’m pretty glad Anton Ferdinand wasn’t interested because he’s not even half the defender his dickhead brother is.

I’m also not overly upset that we didn’t get Aimar. Everyone on here was divided as to whether or not he’d be a good buy, because many believe he is too small for the EPL and is past his best.

The biggest concern I have is that we’re being linked with Chimbonda again. I sincerely hope we’re not in for him.

The good news is that a number of papers, even the Mirror, have accepted that we’re doing our business behind closed doors this close season. Though they are already back on the “Newcastle couldn’t attract a hooker if they had five hundred quid hanging out of their pocket” bandwagon, they must at least know that they have already contradicted themselves. How can they possibly know about our targets, when they accept that we are not going public with who they are?

Ed was talking about plan B and plan C last night when the news of Aimar signing for Benfica came out, but I reckon there are probably still a few plan A targets available. Let’s face it, there’s no point in having the elaborate scouting network we have if we’re only going to identify a hand full of plan A targets.

    More will come.

Congrats Brownrob. I hope your good luck extends to your hopes for our new signings, as long as you don’t want Chimbonda.

It’s depressing me when we get linked with players like warnock. With the news that Aimar is not coming – it shows that we can no longer attract players who would even be a 50/50 gamble.

Things are certainly looking bleak – and i’d class myself as a patient optimist usually. It really looks as though KK absence from the game coupled with the inexperience of the directors is really starting to show – hope i’m wrong………

A load more press rubbish. Why Chimbonda. He can be too stroppy and will not play second fiddle to Beye. Warnock is nothing special either. The Chilean striker looked OK on UTube, seemed up for it and sturdy in the box. The Romanian is most likely going to become an adopted mackem as well. Aimar is a lost cause and always was in my view. So, where do we go from here? Plod on and downwards with Smith and Barton? Better the shite we know than the shite we don’t I suppose. At least Oba has said something to make things appear better. Ignore the press – these last weeks have shown us all what a load of bog rolls their papers are. It is still a way to go to August end and by which time we will know who’s an NUFC player and whose not. My odds are on Duff, Smith, Barton, NZogbia all still here with some young make-weights brought in to make the numbers up. Still not sure it is Kevin who decides on the transfers – too many London suits spoiling the broth for me.

Yeah I do play in a brass band, as kev would say, I Love it! 😀

We got 250 made and we sold out that day, so we are going to get a heap more made, I played a solo on it also, but its tougher than it sounds when you know you are being recorded!

For anyone who is interested, or knows about Brass bands, it was a Besson Prestige and came from Brighouse & Rastrick Band, one of the top bands in the world, so its got a little pedigree! One of the bands Im in went to Norway and London last year, Jersey this year then belguim next year! So its pretty mint 😉

this site is quality man! alright Ed may have got carried away with aimar, but we should all know not to believe anything until it comes from the official site!

there’s still about 6 weeks of the transfer season left so no need to panic yet!!! there will be plenty new faces come seasons kick off. probably a few more youngsters, and for sure one trophy signing.

I like the speculation on rumours, you should be smart enough to know that they’re only rumours until something official comes out. Gives you something to talk about on slow days at the toon.

also, nice 1 brownrob, any chance on a collaboration with Sir Nobby?

you should get the band down to the matches (and play the tune they were using for goals at the Euros when we score)
