There are reports coming from Sky Sports today, that Newcastle are interested in a 20 year-old Czech defender.

Marek Suchy - 20 year old Czech would seem a good acquisition
The player is 20 year old Marek Suchý, who was born in Prague, in 1988.
He currently plays for Gambrinus liga club Slavia Prague, and while primarily a center-back, the youngster can also play in midfield. The Gambrinus Liga is the top league in the Czech Republic.
Suchý turned 20 in March, and has played for Slavia’s first team since 2005, and he was a star for the Czech side that was defeated by Argentina in the final of the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.
The annual Golden Ball awards named him the promising young player in 2006 and Suchý has recently been pursued by Everton and Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers. Why do we immediately think of David Beckham?. Â
The defender is said to be valued at around £2.5M, and before Newcastle entered the fray, Suchy had indicated that Glasgow Rangers were his preferred destination.
Suchy told Deniksport today:
“The possibility of leaving is still there,”
“On Monday I spoke with Mr Vandas and he told me the interest is still there.”
“But Slavia have not received a specific offer. That’s the problem.”
Pavel Vandas is Suchy’s agent.
The player was then asked if Everton and Rangers were leading the chase for his signature, and the youngster replied:
“No, also other clubs from the Premier League - Newcastle and Aston Villa.”
Looks like the player could well be a good acquisition for Newcastle, and the transfer amount looks reasonable, but he’d be one for the future, and would hardly walk into the first team.
However, we don’t know if his agent is trying to stir up some additional interest at Aston Villa and Newcastle, since Rangers and Everton have been interested in the youngster for a while, although no bid has yet been lodged.
Comments welcome.

If by some act of god we ended up with Suchy AND just one, thats right just one, world class creative player we’ll have done alright imo.

I like it. Get him. Get somebody. Defenders. Need them. Taylor needs to work his junk off everyday to get into the team.

Suchy is an immense defender for his age, i remeber Real Madrid and Chelsea wanting him at around the tme of his 19th birthday, he can also play dm too. Hes strong, quick and agressive and has some ability on the ball.

Faustino - I wrote the report earlier today but held it back - because i couldn’t see any reference to Newcastle being interested - until his quote just came from Sky Sports. Intially had his quote from last Saturday - but it was just about Rangers and Everton.
He would be one for the future - but we need experienced players in too.

Leo, the fact is, London IS more of an attraction to players than Newcastle, its just the way it is

Nah actually from what I’ve heard he’s a damn good young defender.

That is a bargain Suchy is quality, I watched that tournement and he was in my team of tournement. He is just 20 too, at £2.5m we should snap the boy up now, and then buy some other players, ooooooohhhh wait a minute we have to wait for some investors before we buy players as poor old Ashleys £2bn + doesnt spread that far poor guy, he must really worry about his finances how will he cope at Newcastle. Ashley out!

i just sent the following to alan oliver
We (Newcastle fans) really deserve better than the piss poor journalism we get from the Chronicle sports writers.
Now I am not suggesting I write well or that I could put a sentence together in perfect English but what I am suggesting is that the Chronicle gets with the picture and pays attention to what people actually think about Alan Oliver and Lee Ryder.
We all thank the lord for the internet which saves us from having to purchase the newspaper.
Most Newcastle fans would gladly lynch Alan Oliver with a rolled up Chronicle for the weak and inaccurate journalism he consistently puts out.
Only last week he suggested that Newcastle had received no enquiries for the services of James Milner. However, in the same article he said that Newcastle were offered 3 fringe players from Liverpool in exchange for James Milner. So which is it Alan? Did Liverpool enquire or not?
Talking of those 3 players which were reportedly offered to us I seem to recall Alan Oliver describing them in a very negative choice of words.
It seems very ironic that 1 of those trio of players has actually signed for Newcastle full time in the shape of Danny Guthrie.
A few days later another 1 of the trio is heavily linked with a season long loan to Newcastle.
So which is it Alan? Are these players which you previously criticized worthy of the honour of wearing the famous black and white shirt?
I am guessing your tune will change now that you will look to contact Danny for quotes.
It seems all contact with the club and yourselves has been firmly ended! You have been left fishing around for quotes from the likes of Jon Beresford and Micky Quinn.
The rest of your stories are simply pulled off the official Newcastle website and worded in your paper in a manner which is intended to make the reader think you gained the quotes directly from the individual concerned.
It really is desperate times for the Chronicle. I am certain your sales will reflect that.
If you are naïve to think I am in the minority please feel free to visit nufc.com and true-faith.co.uk.
Unfortunately for the Chronicle all reports suggesting any one takes anything Alan Oliver prints seriously are “wide of the markâ€
Regards
Richard

As i wrote earlier i think we should target players that are up and coming. They should have played for their club’s first team for a few years and shown some degree of talent.
A player like this and other ones such as Steven Defour and Thomas Khalenberg would at least consider Newcastle as a club to move to.
22 filthy mag // Jul 17, 2008 at 16:12
Broon ale, that was well put. I hope that you get a suitable response. We are not professional writers simply fans, and fans come from all walks of life. One thing that remains true is that we love our club and voice it in a manner that we are accustomed to. Mr Oliver on the other hand is paid to write and you would think that as an investigative journalist, he would research and compile his articles in a more professional manner. I wonder if he gets paid by the word rather than the content?
23 Graham // Jul 17, 2008 at 16:12

Ashley out? He’s by far the best owner we’ve had in my living memory! If he hadn’t come in when he did Shepherd would have been our LAST owner as he would have taken us down the pan and into administration!

Great comments Richard I don’t think it is just the chronicle being frozen out i think it is just the media in general.
I for one have supported newcastle since the days of the 2nd division and it is deadly quiet on all matters linked to to the club and it is very hard to get used to when we heard to fat freddie setting his mouth off every 5 minutes.
I think this media silence will continue and like chris mort said transfers will be posted on the official site..not on sky, setanta or what ever and we will just have to grin and get on with it.
The amount of players we are linked with is just insane and very few of the targets we are meant to have missed out on have probably never actually had bids made for them. That is my opinion..so keep your eyes peeled on NUFC and I suggest we follow suit and ignore all the speculation too as it has spoiled my summer so far.

sirjasontoon, I share your sentiments. We should ignore such speculation until we hear directly from the club, however, this is the toon following. Never has a more passionate breeed of fan been known. Following the toon has often been referred to as a rollercoaster ride and with good reason. The emotions are allover the place as we all want to see them do well and get big signings. So sue us for being passionate! Its all part and parcel of following our beloved club. So lets try and be objective but we know we wont
34 Danny // Jul 17, 2008 at 16:27
Looks to me that we have tabled massive amounts of offers to different players, players we’ve been linked with and vice versa.
And we’ve got a ton of negative replies aswell. One player after another snubs us, starting with Modric. Probably more than we know about…
But why?!?!

So, what the opinion of Suchy over Cuellar?
I’ve been thinking that Cuellar was in the wings pending a replacement signing by Rangers. They seem to have already lost out on Shittu. I wonder if this could be it. They’re also interested in a Cardiff stopper called Loovens.
Any bets on us getting Cuellar and Rangers getting Suchy?
37 The Entertainers // Jul 17, 2008 at 16:29
I love these type of signings and believe they are exactly what we should have beefed up our squad with, like Guthrie
But the first team still needs addressing with quality ready to go players like Spiderman.
Not sure if i’m signing from the same hymn sheet as Ashley though.
38 brave new toon // Jul 17, 2008 at 16:31
Sirjasontoon… correct my freind.
The fact is, as entertaining as it might be 90% of the names thrown up in the papers are plucked out of the air.. And if they drop lucky they will’claim’ the exclusive… We are being used to excelerate bids and increase wages by agents, the only player we have lost (that we wanted) was Modric… & woodgate in Jan.
Nufc keeps it’s buisiness private,. but tells the truth, when it s there to be told.
& Harrier..Hold firm… the Arda’s and the muchy’s, will be delivered..
And will everyone stop call Mike Ashly, he is no mug… and after the weekend many many of you will regret a lot of your comments.

47 Ben K // Jul 17, 2008 at 16:50
I also think people must lay off Ashley. Everyone wants ‘big’ signings, but what about them should be big? The transfer fee? Their wages?
Look at Arsenal? How much did Adebeyor cost? (3m) Clichy? (250,000) Sagna?(ok 6m isn’t cheap) CLASS players all. Put them in the right attacking system and they are difference makers. Frustrated by the youth recruitment policy? It gets you players like Cesc Fabregas, the best player in the premiership before he got hurt last year, for nothing. As long as you are willing to WAIT a couple of seasons for them to break into the first team.
The contrast is Man U, who are using debt to finance their big signings. I think the club could be in for a rough spell, probably when Sir Alex steps down (that is, unless clubs keep bailing them out like 6m for Alan Smith. I just threw up in my mouth).
Keep the faith in Keegan, and keep the faith in Ashley. The fee does not make the player, and putting all your transfer kitty into one big signing is a dangerous undertaking. What if they get injured (Owen)? What if they can’t adapt to the Premiership (Luque)? The team is set back years.
No, wait to splash the cash unless you are going to get it right. Why blow 20m on Modric when he might not pan out? He’s slight and hasn’t shown it in a top league. The next Shearer-like transfer should be a PROVEN player who wants to wear the black and white and is still young enough to give his best years to the club.
48 harrier // Jul 17, 2008 at 16:52
Also brave new toon - may I ask how you know this info? Is it based on the scheduled press conference for monday?
49 The Entertainers // Jul 17, 2008 at 16:55
@ Bravenewtoon
The silence treatment is a doubled edged sword:
On one hand you keep the media at bay and long may that continue.
However complete silence also is alienating the fans, who feel the club is distancing themselves .
Its a tough balancing act and feel it could be handled slightly better.
Still keeping the faith, just !

speaking of Guthrie, this is found @ Soccernet.com which is very nice:
Guthrie targets Euro place for Newcastle
Newcastle United new boy Danny Guthrie has insisted Europe is not beyond the Magpies.
The 21-year-old former Liverpool trainee has been training with his team-mates on Tyneside since completing his move last week, and is relishing the prospect of fighting his way into contention for the opening Premier League clash with champions Manchester United.
He is well aware of the club’s wait for a trophy, which now extends to 39 years, but insists that is no reason not to aim high.
Asked about his ambitions, Guthrie said: ‘For me, just to get as many games as I can; for the team, if we get a good start, I don’t think Europe is out of the way for us with the players we have.
‘The manager has had a good pre-season to get who he wants in and the players are really working hard in training. A European place is realistic.
‘It’s notorious, everyone knows we have under-achieved for a few years, so to break into Europe or have a cup run would be amazing.’
Guthrie, who is understood to have cost the Magpies around £2.5million, is revelling in his chance to make a name for himself at St James’ Park after tasting the atmosphere on Tyneside during his loan spell at Bolton last season.
He was in the Wanderers side which spoiled Keegan’s homecoming by claiming a 0-0 draw in his first match back at the helm, and cannot wait to experience life on the other side of the fence.
The midfielder said: ‘It was the best atmosphere I have ever played in. It was unbelievable. The game was over-shadowed.
‘It was a great day all round.
‘It’s massive for me. It’s a proud moment and there’s just so much excitement to get started and get into St James’ Park when it’s full and feel that as a Newcastle player.
‘That will be amazing.’
Guthrie’s first chance to pull on the black and white shirt will come in the club’s opening pre-season friendly at Hartlepool on Saturday.
But Keegan has already told him exactly where he stands.
The Shrewsbury-born player told the club’s official website: ‘He just said to me, ‘Just knuckle down and you will have as great a chance as anybody in here’.
‘It is just about me knuckling down and showing everyone what I can do to get into the starting line-up on the first day.’
Meanwhile, the Magpies’ hopes of signing Pablo Aimar appear to have been dashed with the Argentinian playmaker poised to complete a move from Real Zaragoza to Benfica after the clubs agreed a deal.
The 28-year-old announced his intention to leave the Spanish side soon after they were relegated, with Lisbon giants Benfica instantly showing their interest in the player.
The delay in the clubs reaching an agreement had reportedly attracted the
attention of the Magpies and Everton, but now it seems the transfer to Portugal is all but completed.
Zaragoza communications director Luis Sol told maisfutebol: ‘He is about to sign a contract with Benfica.
‘Between Zaragoza and Benfica everything is sorted out. The doors are open for Aimar to become Benfica player.
‘At around 6.30pm (yesterday) Aimar was in Soria with his team-mates, but he received a phone call and travelled to Zaragoza.
‘The only information we have is that between both clubs, everything is resolved. This is the reason he went to meet the Benfica board.
Reports in Portugal suggest Aimar will be offered a three-year contract, and the Lisbon-based club will pay Zaragoza around £6million.

I guess we will continue to collect young players and in my eyes we will never be able to challenge for fifth place! never! we are lucky if we get the 8th place!
72 NEZSURF // Jul 17, 2008 at 18:06
apologies for going on about aimar, but you cant help thinking about the fact that benfica have a modern legend in rui costa as an ambassador/transfer negotiator, whereas we have dennis wise who has zero worlwide koudos. If aimar met both men who would impress the most? It beggars belief that shearer is not involved in the same sort of capacity as rui costa is at benfica. I have travelled the world twice over on business and pleasure and everyone i speak to about english football instantly connects shearer and keegan to nufc, even in uzbekistan. Shearer could even do it part time, and would give him a greater understanding of the transfer system before he becomes keegans eventual successor. There is not much wrong with our current transfer policy, its just some of the people involved are the wrong ones.

77 Michael // Jul 17, 2008 at 18:26
The policy of signing youth players is good in principle, but maybe the club is taking it too far and leading us to miss out on some players with more experience who would really improve our team.
Aimar is a prime example. Also Gilberto, according to sky sports he cost just less than 1 million pounds for Panathinaikos. A player proven in the Prem who certainly has a season or two left in him.
We can’t have a side of kids, we need some proven quality, so theres no use ruling out all players over the age of 27.

Brave new toon, after this weekend, if there are no signings then i’m holding you responsible! I just love the club and hope and pray everyday to come onto this site and see a new top class signing.
82 Black and White Blood // Jul 17, 2008 at 19:01
To be honest, I think we are trying, its just a case of not being abel to offer what they want - European Football…
83 Beetrice // Jul 17, 2008 at 19:10
we had a better chance when we were in for luka modric than what we would have if we went in for fernandez
there is NO CHANCE newcastle united will even be allowed into negotiating for him, he’l be playing for one of the big boys very soon
84 brave new toon // Jul 17, 2008 at 19:16
you have my personal guarentee.. new signing… s! completed by sunday night.. possibly stretching to monday evening.. If i’m wrongi’ll never blog again
I for one look forward to a some positive comments… It’s been a fcking awful six weeks

88 Beetrice // Jul 17, 2008 at 19:24
what if i were to say
newcastle will sign 2 new players tomorrow, and by tuesday morning we’l have a third
Now i’d be right in thinking you lot won’t beleive me because thats just crazy so why does brave new toon get the special treatment, and if he knows this much why no unveiling of the guthrie/guiterrez’s
It really is that easy to go ape shit with bullshit on the internet you know so..
89 robertsa // Jul 17, 2008 at 19:29
are my eyes seeing right?
On September 16, 2007, Bojan made his official debut for FC Barcelona against CA Osasuna, coming on at the 78th minute for Giovani dos Santos. Three days later, he made his UEFA Champions League debut against Olympique Lyonnais, coming on at the 88th minute for Lionel Messi. He was, at the time, the youngest Barcelona player ever to feature in a Champions League game, at 17 years and 22 days.[5] He made his second Champions League appearance on October 2, coming on at the 81st minute for Ronaldinho against VfB Stuttgart. Bojan will now move to Newcastle United in a deal worth 14 million pounds.

105 AngerOfTheNorth // Jul 17, 2008 at 19:58
Are you all sure Ed isn’t Alan Oliver? They seem to report things like “We’re definitely just about to sign Aimar”… It’s great to have one place to come for all of the rumours Ed, but you have to stop counting your chickens!
106 Ross // Jul 17, 2008 at 20:07
there is no way we will get anywhere near bojan, come on lads dont be daft.
im sorry but bojan kirkic and dos santos were the two barca new boys, kirkic was getting champions league football and scoring, and dos santos was sold on.
i love to be optomistic about the club but lets not start talking and give people an even bigger reason to take the p!ss out of us.
107 Patrick // Jul 17, 2008 at 20:10
I don’t know about Alan Oliver, so I went to wiki and search for him. Here is what I get (very hilarious):
Alan Oliver
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alan Oliver is the chief sports writer for the Evening Chronicle, based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, where he has written on the subject of Newcastle United since the 1980s.
He wrote an unofficial book about Kevin Keegan’s time as manager of the club entitled Geordie Messiah. However, having sold only 252 copies of this book it was later pulled by the publisher and put to better use as recycled toilet paper.
******
Is Alan Oliver selling toilet paper nowadays or he’s just selling s***?

Summary:
- No point getting 1 in, 1 out.
- Looking for younger players who can stay at the club for a while.
- No point buying players who wont work with the others.
- Turning down players in wrong positions or that are too old.
- Getting rejected by few but encouraged by a few.
- Shay Given is looking really good. Krul and Forster will be in there challenging next season.
Thats all basically.

Therefore also Central to the theory of the ‘occult’ ruling the world in one form or another i.e. the Freemasons, Skull and Bones etc. Which is bollocks really as the orthodox jewish community run the world and it’s all more than likely propoganda started by them, [in cahoots with the Templar] in the 11/12th century to scare the silly ‘chrsitians’ and make cash selling false iconography and relics etc.

King Kev is a yesterday Man, my first reaction to his appointment was, “tactically inept” as has been previously proven. I got caught up in the granduer shortly after. But he is not responsible for charming new players any more that is left to Wise and his cronies. This is not working. Ashley has not proved the saviour we were looking for were are the signings that made it fun to be a NUFC supporter over the summer (which was the best time as we have not performed for 3-4 years since Bobby left?
165 cc87 // Jul 17, 2008 at 22:41
I’d rather Suchy and Loovens than the £7 mil Cuellar would cost + wages
166 Tom_Toon // Jul 17, 2008 at 23:00
Good shout with Loovens, still young, wants a move to the prem, cheap fee and wages and looked really solid on their FA cup run.
167 ToonLoon // Jul 17, 2008 at 23:11
TIME 2 FACE FACTS
1. Despite a very small squad and no over hanging debt we want to cut wages.
2. We are not looking to spend beyond 7mil for any player.
3. Ashley has said he wants players with resale potential–ie profit
4.Ashley says he is looking for investors.
5. Compare this to teams with real ambition for PL success–top six finish–Spurs, POMPY, Man City.
6.The only thing in our favour is the youth policy and the scouting.
What does this mean?
Paranoid fantasy 1.
Ashley wants the club to look good on paper to sell and we are in no way heading for the top 6, not even top 10. We will have a more consistant season but still fininsh mid table.
Shite. Hope this is shit. But.
168 geordiekk // Jul 17, 2008 at 23:17
the facts are if kk is happy am happy he knows exactly what is going on and he seems happy theres no way he would keep quiet if there were problems behind the scenes. 17m bid for modric tells you that there is money there
169 Michael // Jul 17, 2008 at 23:18

180 Patrick // Jul 17, 2008 at 23:52
@ Harrier
We do have promising youngsters as well, so it may not be even true that we always have to buy.
Zamblera got a good reputation from the national side. I am actually more willing to give him a spot on the bench.
Regarding all the other youngters in our club, who can tell that the youngsters are playing so bad so we have no hope in them? We all talk about Tozer, LuaLua, etc.
Harrier has listed the youngsters of the big clubs who are lifting the club to the top tier now! As long as we never see how our youngsters are playing in PL, we should never doubt them by saying we have to sign 1st team players. Again, KK knows what he wants. The rally towards the end of the last seaon showed us the bright side, right?
Youngsters, in my mind, are hungry and they are better than those “1st team players” who play for money. We got a lot in the past, remember?

183 Patrick // Jul 18, 2008 at 0:01
Barely related to the topic, but Joke of today from Soccernet.com
Eto’o ready to consider Uzkekistan transfer?
TASHKENT, July 17 (Reuters) - Unsettled Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o is considering a move to join Uzbek club Kuruvchi.
‘I have several good offers from various clubs at present,’ Eto’o told a news conference in Tashkent after arriving in the Uzbek capital.
‘I’m planning to return to Barcelona and starting from Saturday, I will consider all my options, including the one from Kuruvchi.’
The three-times African Player of the Year has been told he is surplus to requirements at the Spanish club and is free to negotiate his own contract.
Kuruvchi, who lead the Uzbek championship and face Iran’s Saipa in the Asian Champions League quarter-finals in September, have made a reported $40 million offer to lure the 27-year-old from Barcelona.
‘We have made a very good offer and are quite serious of getting Samuel to play here,’ Kuruvchi coach Mirjalol Kasymov told the club’s official website (www.pfc-kuruvchi.com).
Eto’o has been Barcelona’s first-choice striker since 2004 but missed a large part of the last two seasons through injury.
