The Daily Mirror is reporting today that Blackburn’s new manager Paul Ince is hoping to sign Chilean youngster, Carlos Villanueva.

Carlos Villanueva – Blackburn trying to sign the player quickly
Ince hopes to seal the deal for around £3.5M within a matter of days, in case other teams may become interested.
Why are we reporting this?
Because that’s right, Newcastle United are said to be linked with a possible move for the player, but whether that’s true has to be a little suspect, at best.
Seems like Newcastle, Tottenham, Everton and Sunderland are linked with almost every player becoming available this summer.
Villanueva is just 22 years old, was born in Viña del Mar, Chile, and has already said he wants to leave his home country, and was even all set to move to Spanish club Real Sociedad last month, but the Spanish club couldn’t come up with the money.
The youngster is the same height as Michael Owen, at 5′8″, and has loads of skill and seemingly can score goals from all over the place.
He has played for Chile 12 times, so he should be able to get a work permit in England, based on that.
Carlos plays for Chilean club Audax Itlainao, and he’s played 125 times with 50 goals since he joined them from Deportes La Serena, in 2004.
We’ll probably only be interested if the player is already being tracked by Dennis Wise and company.
Carlos is an attacking midfielder who usually plays on the left.
And come to think of it, we’ve not heard a squeak about another left winger recently, Arda Turan of Galatasaray.
Wonder if we’re still in with any chance of getting him?  Of course he’s a lot more costly than £3.5M.
We’ll see.

Heard of him a while ago, never seen him apart from youtube (cant solely judge from that though), looks creative, pacey and skillful, £3.5mil, definitely worth the risk.

We don’t need a left winger because we have Gutierrez/Milner/Duff/Zog. However, we are in desperate need of an out and out attacking midfielder.

Have to say, I’ve only seen him on youtube after reading a similar article this afternoon. He is impressive.
Funny isn’t it; we’ve been linked with this guy, Chupete and Aimar, and we’ve already bought Gutierrez, after Keegan said he didn’t want South Americans.
The two Chileans definitely look worth a punt.

26 Jim // Jul 18, 2008 at 7:17 PM
If we’re discussing other teams’ transfer targets, has anyone read Roy Keane’s interview:
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12874_3833332,00.html
You have to respect his drive. He’s more or less saying that if Quinn doesn’t come through with the trasfers, he’s taking a header!
I like to think that the relationship KK has with Ashley is close enough that Keagan doesn’t have to ‘threaten’ the Chairman publicly! If it isn’t then he couldn’t do it any better than Keane has.
27 Stay Tooned // Jul 18, 2008 at 7:26 PM
The above player would be a good buy and seems a similar type of player to MatÃas Fernández that everyone oon here was raving about.
It is intersting to see quotes from the player not naming the club, even though skysports is certain that it is Blackburn.
Just have to wait and see!
Wish we would sign someone soon!

Dick,
Why don’t you go and jump off a cliff. God man you are so miserable and defeatist. I am the one like that normally but never as bad as that. KK has no money and we will not pay big wages so we cannot attract proven abilty. That is a fact by now. We can only afford youngsters and everyone of a star quality snubs us. Why? Because MA is the richest and tightest owner in the Prem.
What is the good news?
We have KK who is the master. Any more good news? Yes. MA will be gone soon. Why? Two reasons. He wants to sell the club. The fans at NUFC have rumbled him and will not put up with any more of his verbal ……. about being a diehard Toon supporter. He will not go in the away end again and will want to sell. He is unwelcome. Now that has to be good news. keep the faith. Kick out the Spurs owner.

I would say the only ones grumblings are the foolios that think chucking another 50 mill out on wasters is a good idea. You’ve got it right daiv. Everytime we spend money on “proven” ability it goes down the f***** toilet. We take gambles on players like Wenger did on Fabregas and we could have a great team on our hands. The team is no worse off than it was last season when keegan had us flying at the end. So you grumble and moan. Whine and complain all you want. Speculate and spout the lies you want to. Everything you have said reflects not whiff of provable fact. But daiv be warned, you are spouting the kind of nonsense the Sun and the Mirror do: Conjecture made to make the management of our club look bad.

The management is fine . The owner is the problem. Tight as a ant’s ………. You can call it good housekeeping if you like. You back your manager and that is not happening. Crap managers buy crap players. Give a top manager top money and the club will progress. Kevin will not move this club onwards buying £1M players. If you are happy with the current transfer situation you are mad. You must be a Mackem.
53 harrier // Jul 18, 2008 at 9:04 PM
normski – where did we finish last season?
As far as I am aware – the only non-reserve player we let go was rozenhal – apart from emre (who was injured most of the time). Doom and gloom is all people see. But the base of our team is capable of finishing in the midtable area no problem. Think of how much better the team will do not having to deal with 4 months of Sam Allardyce and a management shift mid season. So, I put it out there but, we have let go of a few fringe players and are replacing them with people who can actually make a difference on a regular basis. It sounds to me like we are getting better – not worse like all the doom and gloom merchants think.
54 harrier // Jul 18, 2008 at 9:07 PM
daiv i am more than happy to trust what kevin keegan, derek llambias, chris mort (when he was here), and mike ashley have said. Have you watched/read the interviews with Kevin? Seems to me he seems quite content with what they are doing, in fact, very enthusiastic. I am perfectly happy with the transfer situation because Kev is getting the players he wants and is working on bringing more in. On top of it all – we are still in July.
55 daiv // Jul 18, 2008 at 9:07 PM
Harrier
Everytime Manure spend big money it does not go down the toilet. Spending big money in itself is not wrong, you just have to have the right manager. KK is the right manager so give him the money… unless the owner does not trust him or more likely, is as tightas an ant’s…..
56 harrier // Jul 18, 2008 at 9:09 PM
as for the owner daiv – you can not prove in anyway that the owner is tight because we don’t know what players kev wants to bring in, or how much mike will let KK spend.
57 harrier // Jul 18, 2008 at 9:09 PM
Why do we need to spend big money? You sound like unless we drop 100 million the world will end.
58 normski1930z // Jul 18, 2008 at 9:13 PM
harrier here here kid your cup is defo half full am likein what ya sayin but as your comment states “where did we finish last season” thats why we have to look to exprience as well as youth..plus wot is happenin with emre??? does anyone know coz i dont..say for the sake of arguement that we were really offered torsten frings 32 i would snap ther hands off for 2 seasons..plus the fact that we teetered around relegation for much of the second half of the season….
59 daiv // Jul 18, 2008 at 9:17 PM
Harrier
We need to spend big money to improve. You cannot be a top 4 team spending 1 or 2 mil on players. In that case Hartlepool can win Prem buying £15K players. The less you spend the better you become . perverse. We are the fourth or fifth richest club in prem and last season and this season we are spending and selling like the bottom four. Fact. But I suppose your logic is that the less we spend and the more we save (for MAs pocket) the better we will be.
Finally, when are we going to realize that MAis here to make a massive profit out of NUFC and will sell when he can. he is not a saint for NUFC like some here think (no NUFC owner ever has been) and will dump us when the opportunity arises. We should dump him first.

61 AndyNUFC // Jul 18, 2008 at 9:32 PM
You know, if we had bought Modric for whatever ridiculous price or Arshavin or Turan, there would be no problem. Just because we got 2 players on the cheap doesn’t mean we won’t spend the cash when needed.
62 Patrick // Jul 18, 2008 at 9:33 PM
My feeling is that we are not refusing to spend; we are spending wisely (oh, did I say Wise-ly?). Let’s see… if Man City gets Ronaldinho, are they going to meet the top 4? No! This is not the case. They have Martin Petrov, Bonjinov, Mpenza, Hamann, Micah Richards… you name it. They are not playing successfully. Money = success? I doubt it. 11 Pele or Cruyff won’t bring you the championship. I have said this before, again and again.
Additionally, who wants to come to help lifting up NUFC now? Some of the big money players just want to move to a club that is participating in the UEFA Champions League only without giving effort previously. Is it a good sign? No I don’t really think so.
What happen now is that if people are willing to take the challenge of lifting NUFC up, they come and they will be putting their effort 200% to the team like Danny Guthrie vows to be.
Can’t we just wait and see as KK already tells us they are working in the background to bring in more players? We don’t need super players; we need hungry and good players who want to play for us!
By the way, Jonas Gutierrez is actually making the history of buying out his contract and joining NUFC. To me it’s as crucial as the Bosman ruling.

I am saying… these kinds of stupid businessmen are lining up money to fire up the price of the football players nowadays. It’s like how people invest in Crude Oil and make the price increase and increase. This is the wrong way of the whole football business. Do you ever see players playing in the Northern European worth that much? They are just turning to themselves to create more good and young players (and some of them are “robbed” by the Big 4 leagues by the way).

Don’t think I ever heard MA say he was a die hard Toon fan….simply a bloke who’s put £250 million of his own cash into the club. How much you have put in this season??
You’ve got to admit it’s rich someone paying their £500 – £600 for a season ticket slagging off a bloke who’s put £250 million (about 1/8th of his wealth) into the club. I’ve got no problem with our current policy…..it’s all a mater of perspective. I started supporting in the 60’s under Westwood when we were a selling club – by your comments you’re obviously not familiar with that period of the clubs history. We’re solvent, got a good manager and we are building a structure for the long term. It’s the way forward – if you think it’s not, cough up £300 million I’m sure MA would sell.

Emre avoids national service if he delays signing for Gala until ….. Monday I think.
Lampard probably wont leave Chelsea but if he did, he would probably not want to do a Webster – he wouldn’t be able to show his face in London again and his family would suffer.

I don’t know if you were under a different impression than me – but this year is not about getting into the top4. We need to get into the european places first to buy those kinds of players that will get us into champions league. That is what keegan set as a goal at the end of last season – those are the kind of players we are looking for. We are taking a team that achieved a 12th place finish and looking for those players that are young and hungry and push the other players to pick up the 20 odd points we need to get back into the top 6.

I agree that media’s not doing a good job. Maybe no Kaka’ and Lamps deals whatsoever. who knows? Btw, when was the last time we are linked to Reyes? Now there’s a concern if Reyes is coming since he is not fitting in the category of what we need at this point.

107 Patrick // Jul 18, 2008 at 11:08 PM
@ToonTimbo
Matias Fernandez is better than Pablo Aimar with good dribbling, good shooting, a bit speed. He won’t come cheap for sure.
However, his size is a problem. In PL, just skill is not enough for a player to stay healthy. The tackle here in PL is the strongest in Europe (not defense, mate, just tackle). There would be a chance of ending up like how Eduardo Da Silva was – breaking leg and need to rest.
If we can choose him, still need to think twice.

i beleive we looked at reyes a while back, with that young championship manager we got scoutin for us in spain….keegan will have any details in terms of prices known, and reyes is young, can play attacking midfield and stiker, which are positions KK is looking for, is ‘the right side of 30′ sticking with the age policy, no media reports…hes fast…he has premiership experience, and he would definatly improve our current squad, and KK has said he is expecting a top class, big name signing, it all fits…i may be wrong…but i have a feeling reyes may be on hsi way to tyneside…wait and see..

Sorry, just p***** off cos I couldn’t point out to them that a) Gutierrez will not play tomorrow and b) he didn’t cost £7m. Not the most damagingly inaccurate thing they have ever said, but indicative…

Yes that’s what I am saying. The supply was from the flank, so to speak. If we have no creative midfielder, yes we are going to look to guys like Jonas Gutierrez (and he was part of the Guiza’s Golden Boot effort).

@ToonTimbo, MAG PIE
Batty’s value is his damaging to the opposite side’s midfield. this is very important. I foresee, though, Guthrie is going to be the next Rob Lee like the others are talking about, not Batty.
Spiderman = Ginola, yes! I thought about that esp when I saw him playing with Mallorca… Ginola’s not solely a winger. He can go into the middle and pass.
@Paul
if that’s the case, though, could we sign Ronaldo for free instead? I remember he’s still without a club.
Entertainers for a different reason…! haha, I like this

i ment adriano and barton doing cristiano ronaldo over, but ri was jsut thinking about what had happend 2 the other ronaldo, and u sayin he is without a club interests me….i would liek that…and he would come for the same reason adriano may think about coming for a split secong…the nightlife….but KK’s fitness programw ould counter that and maybe bring him back to the player he once was….i wouldnt say no
and i dont beleive martins was at inter when robbie keane played for that season, but i cant rememebr exactly, do you know how long ago the robbie keane seasona t inter was??

its prob jus addin 2 + 2 n makin 5….but ya know what the press our like….when its a report they always go over the top with the price tag….n MA will pay w/e for the right players…within reason…and if KK beleives he is the right player, remembering MA knows f all about football…KK will sign him…robbie keane…monday or another time between now n the end of nxt week..8 or 9m, tottenham are f’d for money, they want to sell…makes the price tag go down already…ramos needs money for new signings…kk needs a forward who is better than mark viduka but playes a similar role…its a possibility
204 ronaldeano // Jul 19, 2008 at 12:14 AM
@Obafan, he wouldent spend ten pence on him!
He would if he was 18 yrs old.
MA seems to think we will get into Europe with inexperienced young-un’s!
He is doing the impossible the cheap way (the Arsenal way)
Wenger is a genius. He has saved the gunners millions because he can spot a superstar and buy him for pennys.
MA needs his heed seen to if he thinks we can emulate Arsenal
205 Hadrian // Jul 19, 2008 at 12:15 AM
20million for diego , problem sorted , fans happy .
206 ronaldeano // Jul 19, 2008 at 12:16 AM

I like his battling attitude but I can’t see him in B&W maybe 3 or 4 years ago.
Better fish in the sea so to speak.
210 ObaFan2 // Jul 19, 2008 at 12:19 AM

221 Dave // Jul 19, 2008 at 12:30 AM
Paul, I think you’re getting confused with Maxwell the LB who now plays for Inter, but used to play for Ajax.
Nee chance I’m afraid.
222 Tom_Toon // Jul 19, 2008 at 12:31 AM
Moved to real madrid?!? Hes only played at fluminense and real madrid.
223 Tom_Toon // Jul 19, 2008 at 12:31 AM

225 ObaFan2 // Jul 19, 2008 at 12:35 AM

Wor lass and her mates fault!
227 ronaldeano // Jul 19, 2008 at 12:42 AM
BED TIME!
228 Tom_Toon // Jul 19, 2008 at 12:43 AM
Harper should be no. 1 and i dont thnk there will be big signing on monday.
Im happy with players like Gutierrez to be honest, they are going to make a massive improvement on last season IMO.
229 Dave // Jul 19, 2008 at 12:45 AM
IMO, the next big stars that are relatively unknown will be:
Georginio Wijnaldum
Dani Aquino
Diego Buonanotte
Mamadou Sakho
Toni Kroos
and our own Tim Krul
230 Tom_Toon // Jul 19, 2008 at 12:49 AM
Ino 4 out of 5 of them.
231 Dave // Jul 19, 2008 at 12:51 AM
Erm, alright then (y)
232 Paul // Jul 19, 2008 at 12:53 AM
i agree it is an improvement, but there will be one big signing, maybe not monday, but there will be, just to keep the fans of ashleys back…however i do feel that big money wont be spent overall this summer….as there is little point, next summer maybe, or maybe even january, if we perform well enough to attract the big players….u agree??
and i may get shit for this…but i also think given is overatted, yes he pulles off top quality saves, yeshe LOOKS good, but he is overdramatic, and have you seen the amount of goals he concedes, inc omparison to harper…given looks better, but in reality…harper concedes less…and he controls the defence better…causing a domino lyk effect to the midfeild and then attack…as the midfield can not play well if it has to defend…and the strikers cannot score if there is no supply…u catchin ma drift??
233 Tom_Toon // Jul 19, 2008 at 12:53 AM
I wouldnt say any of those were unknown, except Aquino (never heard of him).
Cant say i think Sakho and Krul will be stars. Krul will be a top goalie, but not a star. Wijnaldum may be a very good player but not a future ledgend.
234 Dave // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:00 AM
Aye I did say relatively unknown.
Maybe not for you cos you “know” every footballer to ever grace our beautiful game.
Vincent Acapandie, Stelvio and Andre Ayew all have bounds of potential aswell.
235 Dave // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:05 AM
Did I say they would be legends?
The reason I chose Wijnadlum and Krul was because I was in Holland a few months ago, and they were the two names mentioned by 99% of people when I asked about future stars of the Dutch national team. Have also seen Wijnaldum play before when he played against Herecles and scored.
236 Tom_Toon // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:05 AM
I’ve heard of Stelvio and Andre Ayew (Abedi’s son), who is the other fella?
237 Dave // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:10 AM
The fella plays for Auxerre, supposedly being groomed to be a long term replacement for David Trezeguet. Admittedly haven’t seen much of him, but have heard of nothing but good reviews in relation to him. Eyes are peeled for him.
238 Tom_Toon // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:21 AM
Has he actually ever appaeared first team?
239 Dave // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:27 AM
Nah he hasn’t, but apparently smashed the reserves goals record.
Also contributed well with France in the U17 World Cup.
240 Tom_Toon // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:30 AM
How have you seen him?
241 Davis Gilroy // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:31 AM
“smashed the reserves goals record” – sounds like Chopra in disguise
242 Dave // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:33 AM
Was gonna mention Shikabala but just had a look at your link.
Sorry for babbling, but Macauley Chrisantus and Henri Saivet look good too.
243 Dave // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:36 AM
The U17 World Cup was on Eurosport, so watched the majority of the matches containing big teams.
Is this an interrogation or something?
244 Tom_Toon // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:41 AM
Nah, it did look like one though.
Not really interested in players that young, i like finding out about young players that can actually play in the first team.
Never seen either Saviet or Chrisantus.
245 Davis Gilroy // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:44 AM
Glad to hear you don’t like young boys. Enjoy your love in chaps! (all in good jest!)
246 Dave // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:46 AM
What’s that supposed to mean?
I’M not interested in blah blah blah. It’s not your blog son.
This a place for people to share their opinions of football, just cos you dont know some of the players doesn’t mean you should go all arsey about it. Christ sake.
I question why I even bother, with you thinking that your at the helm of this place.
247 Tom_Toon // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:49 AM
That was in response to watching the world under-17 cup, not your suggestions.
248 Dave // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:54 AM
Need to be a bit more specific like.
Suppose we just have different ways of seeing talent, you have your ways and I have mine. We’ll just leave it at that. Always get a bit hot headed after a few pints in Wor Whitley with the lads
249 Dave // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:58 AM
Im off anyways, cya round.
250 Tom_Toon // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:59 AM
The MLS is pathetic, so much space and no marking at all.
Can any of our sweedish readers tell me about Petter Andersson of Hammarby, he looks a decent attacking midfielder.
251 pan // Jul 19, 2008 at 3:40 AM
this guy is good, should seen his video on youtube..
252 AndyT // Jul 19, 2008 at 10:06 AM
Daiv,
I’m still waiting for you to come up with a list of people that are willing to donate 50 Million to Newcastle rather than wanting it back with interest? For that matter, a list of companies that would currently lend £50 million to a company that had £30million cash outflow and wanted the cash to cover increased costs without any additional revenue. Why don’t you try and find a good solution instead of whinging. You could start up the Fan buyout. Reckon you could get 250,000 Newcastle fans to fork out £2,000 each for a vote in the way the club is run, and sign them up to paying another £2,000 a couple of seasons later. That doesn’t get them to any of the matches by the way.
253 harrier // Jul 19, 2008 at 1:09 PM
Tom Toon – know of any way we can watch the hartlepool game today? don’t think it is on sopcast

Nobby’s Dad (83)- Ma is a businessman who yes has put in a great deal of money into NUFC!! why??
daiv, myself, and all NUFC fans are loyal customers! who year in year out inverst into newcastle! they are intitled to there opinions even if you or who ever don’t agree!!
================================================
HPS,,,you’re entitled to your opinions but the trouble is you bang on and on making the same points………all based on information you have no actual proof about ‘MA is tight – Wise is doing nothing, we won’t sign ayone cos we don’t pay the wages etc, etc, etc….on and bloody on!!! Of course MA IS in it to make a profit – for God sake get real who would buy a club to make a loss, except maybe the super – rich R.Abramovich. You might be a loyal fan….but from your negative postings you appear the sort who would boo the players / owner / manager when things were going a bit wrong – we’ve got a few idiots around us at the match like this. Your negativity seeps out of almost ever one of your posts. You’ve made your views known on this blog, so stop repeating them constantly – it’s tiresome.
