Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan has said he believes Argentine new signing Jonas Gutierrez will become a real star to the Newcastle United fans.
Jonas Gutierrez – will be big star on Tyneside
Newcastle moved very quickly to get then Real Mallorca winger earlier this month, amd he penned a 5 year deal at the club.
It seems that Jonas was so keen to get to Tyneside, that he turned up for training last Monday, one week earlier than he had been told to report. That’s a really good sign, for sure.
And it seems to be that attitude, character and determination that made Kevin jump at the chance to sign the Argentine, when he became available.
Kevin has given a glowing appraisal of Gutierrez, as he spoke to nufcTV:
“Jonas was told he could come in next week but he has come in this week, that tells you a little bit about his character,”
“He’s 25 years of age and is a very fit boy, very determined and very professional and I think the crowd are going to like him – he’s top class.”
Keegan was asked if he thinks Gutierrez is the type of player who will excite Geordie fans, and Kevin continued:
“Definitely. He is the sort of player who can excite the fans.” “I think they’ll love him for a lot of reasons.”“But the main thing, apart from his pace, is that whoever plays up front will like him because he is a supplier of goals.”
“Daniel Guiza, the guy who has just gone to Fenerbahce from Mallorca won the Golden Boot in Spain and that means he scored more goals than anyone else at the likes of Real Madrid.”
“A key part of that was Jonas and the crosses that he provided and we’ve got that now.” “There’s a lot of competition for those two wide places because he can play right or left, they’re his two best positions.”
“He’s the real deal, He’s not just somebody who has come and you think he’s a bit of a chancer, he’s proven and I think they’ll like him.” “But that’s for him to decide by his performances and them for how they appreciate it.”
As we’ve said, we think the two lads we have brought in are excellent, and will improve our squad.
It also looks like Gutierrez could be a corker.
We just need at least another five, and then we’ll be in business for next season.

Comment #45It’s great that NUFC are keeping their signings quiet however we cannot rely on the players agents or their clubs to keep quiet.
If the agents are talking about us I now believe it’s rubbish and it’s their attempt at getting more money for the player and themselves.

Comment #46I am just very underwhelmed by our signings so far. I thought MA and KK was the dream ticket but it appears i was wrong. It makes me sick seeing teams like bolton, man city and pompey spending big. these are the teams that i expected to finish above but as it stands if we went into the seaon with what we have i would be very worried. Signing reseve players from other teams doesnt fill me with confidence either.
It doesnt matter how much KK tries to reassure the fans i dont see any progress. The club already gets mocked by rival fans and the media so what does the club do regarding joey barton. It sticks by the little thug.
Its time MA splashed some cash or sells up. Even sell up to the BinLadens if they are going to spend on the team. Kevin Keegans terrorist army!

Comment #47ObaFan2 – i agree with you there.
its safe to say that if we are linked with a player in the press. its bull shine!
therefore we can get on with our lives and forget about arda, arshavin, derdiyok and veloso.
our signings will no doubt contunue to take place under a cloak of secrecy.
i am positive our scouting network is more extenstive than sunderlands if the rumour is true about them simply knocking the door of spurs with 23 million in hand for 4 cast off’s!

Comment #48agnetha – would you not think he would have done that anyway even if no other clubs were sniffing around? so it has nothing to do with who was interested in him dumb***

Comment #49agnetha- if you feel underwhelmed at our signings does that mean you would of been overwhelmed if we had signed jo, elemander or crouch?

Comment #50broon ale i would have been delighted with those 3 players. at least those teams are showing ambition. the guthrie signing shows a lack of ambition in my opinion . If we start building for the future by blooding loads of kids we will get relegated.
Ever seen a mackem in Milan?

Comment #52i think you might just be in the minority there agnetha. ellemander is not what we need at all.
never seen jo play so it;s not fair to comment but he was huge money.
same for crouch who i have seen and my opinion is that he is no where near a 11 million quid player.

Comment #53broon ale. None of these players are worth what they are moving for or whats being quoted. But we have to pay the going rate if we are to improve. We cant afford to start finishing behind these teams as they will just get stronger and we will be even less attractive to players than we already are.
I am concerned that sunderland have 50mill to spend. They werent to far behind us last season and if they start signing top notch players the abuse i will get at work will be unbearable.

Comment #54agnetha, even if the Mackems have £50 mill they still have to spend it wisely and paying £23 mill to Spurs isn’t imo.
Don’t bite at other fans taunts, water of a ducks back after 40 years of no trophys lol.
I am personally pleased in the direction the clubs going. Jo might be a good player but they paid way over the top for him.
Value for money is MA’s aim and why not. People keep mentioning the Gooners and Whiners buys and that’s a great template to follow.

Comment #59We have more than (Ernie) Wise as a scouting team is in place scouring the world for quality. It will take time but I can certainly see it working and already we’ve brought some fine younger players in over the last 12 months or so.

Comment #63oh ok then Frankie 😀 , its just that i haven’t seen that spurs mug on here in a while, havent spoken to you in a little while, not since the Inler saga when you thought we should bid anything up to 10million for him, you still think that? i dont think he is worth a penny over 7 or 8 mill as he is unproven myself

Doh.. Mate i never said anything about a press conferance on monday..never even mentioned it.
I did say “new signing..or..s will be announced by Sunday night… Monday allowing for heel dragging
And I did say Guthrie wasn’t bought as a squad player.. He was bought as a intrigal part of the side.. to be played inside right.
All parties involved in potential transfers, including agents and players are bound to a condition of silence, (the only leak being one of Danny G’s mates.. who was quickly shut up) Thats why IMO the Larsson deal won’t happen.
For everyone who needs proof.. and or names, I can’t tell you. i don’t know. I’m just relaying

but yeah.. I think it’s zero tolerance, ‘talk and we’ll leave it, find someone else’ ‘ if you want to do buisiness with nufc, do it properly and with integrety, or not at all…

Comment #69thats wonderful to hear. we won’t let anybody push us over anymore or jeopardise our dealing – no bidding wars can be started to increase prices etc.
So you just heard that there will be some signings by Sunday/Monday but not the whose or whats?
PS – Arshavin and Turan’s agents have gone quiet suddenly 😉 😉

Comment #70I know., Silence is Golden. I’d love to see Arda at the club,. he really looks like a Keegan player..
He’d be my number 1 choice by far..
He’s big mates with Emre, so i just hope he does a decent job of selling the club and the city.
whether is feasable or not i don’t know..
hope hope.
