Newcastle Need To Communicate More With Fans

We’ve heard so little from Newcastle United in the last three weeks or so, that’s it’s all been a little weird.

kevin-keegan-_624411.jpg

Kevin Keegan – needs more players

When we’ve signed players like Guterrez and Guthrie, the club’s done really well, but Newcastle have been  keeping things extremely quiet with the transfers, which is the key to successful transfers generally.

But that doesn’t mean the club should stop talking to their fans completely, which is what seems to have happened. We’d like to hear more from Kevin Keegan for instance, who of course is a natural with the press, and get some information from him, on what he’s thinking about the new season.

We’d also like to hear more from managing Director Kevin Llambias, who comes across as a sensible executive, and we think Mike Ashley must communicate with the fans in some way – maybe a quarterly statement to the fans.

Whenever we listen to Kevin, we always feel so much better about things at the club, and most fans need a big lift right now, that’s for sure.

We were told that Kevin, when he came back from holiday a few weeks back, wouldn’t be talking much until this weekend, which of course coincides with Newcastle’s first pre-season game with Hartlepool United.

But we were also hoping that this would be some deadline to unveil some new players, which would get the squad near the numbers we need for next season.  Certainly the way things have gone so far this summer, 5th place seems unattainable next season.

We’ve lost about six players and brought in two, so it’s not a mystery we need some good players into the club this summer, just to keep the squad the same as last year, and it was very small then.

We had hoped for some big announcements this weekend, or even today, to unveil some new players, but that seems very unlikely now, given the events of this week, when we seem to have been turned down so many times.

But we’re still more than ready to be surprised, on the up-side, so it would be nice if Newcastle did surprise us all, it’s certainly what we need right now.

It will all come from the new official site, www.nufc.co.uk , which we think looks great, by the way.

Fans are the customers of the club, so we think Kevin Llambias and Kevin have to communicate better with their fans. What happens when there’s little or no communication in business is never very good, because people always think the worst things.

And that’s one reason it’s all gloom and doom on Tyneside with Newcastle fans right now, but it’s a nice surprise we all need.

We hope we get it soon, and can sign some players, otherwise, if we were still living in Newcastle, we’d be taking our boots along tomorrow, hoping to get a game at Hartlepool. 😀

There is an interview with KK on the official website now – perhaps they are listening to you Ed?

Agreed on the Llambias and Ashley front though.

Communication is of the essence. We want to be told the truth about progess etc. KK has clarified things with his press interview. Perhaps this is a start. On another issue it is now
quite clear where a supposed target – Wayne Bridge – now stands. An overpaid professional benchwarmer with no ambition. A take the money and squat player. A streaker has got more chance of getting on Chelsea’s pitch than Bridge. So glad he never came here! Let’s hear more KK. The best fans on the planet deserve this mate.

Im glad were keeping quiet over everything, means the manager/scouts are working rather than having press meetings every 3 seconds. Im confident we’ll get some good young signings in and we have enough experience in the squad to show ’em how its done! BTW whats the deal with Emre? Is he going or staying, heard something about the army but nothing more since then.

Obviously NUFC want us to just get info from their website and especially their TV section which we have to pay for. Just shows how inept Journal is when rather than seek out stories by investigative journalism all they can do is print word for word what was on the NUFC website. Our local press especially Anal Oliver and Farrington the Mackam from the Sunday Sun are useless. Even last night my opinion was that Anal was still trying to prove that his reporting on Wednesday was correct and trying to find excuses fo it.

To be fair statements from the club owner or chairman would be nice, but what other club owner or chairmen make regular comments to the press regarding the ins and outs of the club…I bet there arent many I certainly cant think of many who do, you dont see the glaziers making statements about manu and where they want the club to go, same goes for arsenal, I dont even know who owns them or their chairman’s name, and abramovich doesnt talk to the media.

I dont get why we as NUFC supporters demand that our owner/chairman make regular statements about the club, sure I’m interested and the suspense about the next player through the door and the apparent lack of activity is killing me, BUT all that happens is that the media and other club supporters jump on to the comments and twist things and make us look like fools, i dont want to go back to the way the club were perceived under Fat Fredy

I for one prefer the silence, let the club get on with what ever they are doing, if the silence brings better players, better football on the pitch I will be happy

The problem is Ed, when the club say to us, “we’re going after Aimar/Derdiyok/Inler/Suazo”, and we don’t get them, it’s a lot more disappointing than if it had come from the tabloids.

NUFC were made to look like a bunch of nobs over the Aimar thing, and it now looks like his agent was using our good name to up his percentage.

I think it would be a good idea to have a gagging order on all footballing agents, because they jeopardise signings by talking up their clients to increase their cut of the deal. Frankly, I think these people are leeches.

Anyway, the point is that it is perhaps better to let us suffer in silence than to build us all up for some very big disappointments.

bailey, i emailed anal and his boss yesterday.

    you may of read it.

i am not the best at constructing letters but this is what i sent.

We (Newcastle fans) really deserve better than the piss poor journalism we get from the Chronicle sports writers.

Now I am not suggesting I write well or that I could put a sentence together in perfect English but what I am suggesting is that the Chronicle gets with the picture and pays attention to what people actually think about Alan Oliver and Lee Ryder.

We all thank the lord for the internet which saves us from having to purchase the newspaper.

Most Newcastle fans would gladly lynch Alan Oliver with a rolled up Chronicle for the weak and inaccurate journalism he consistently puts out.

Only last week he suggested that Newcastle had received no enquiries for the services of James Milner. However, in the same article he said that Newcastle were offered 3 fringe players from Liverpool in exchange for James Milner. So which is it Alan? Did Liverpool enquire or not?

Talking of those 3 players which were reportedly offered to us I seem to recall Alan Oliver describing them in a very negative choice of words.

It seems very ironic that 1 of those trio of players has actually signed for Newcastle full time in the shape of Danny Guthrie.

A few days later another 1 of the trio is heavily linked with a season long loan to Newcastle.

So which is it Alan? Are these players which you previously criticized worthy of the honour of wearing the famous black and white shirt?

I am guessing your tune will change now that you will look to contact Danny for quotes.

It seems all contact with the club and yourselves has been firmly ended! You have been left fishing around for quotes from the likes of Jon Beresford and Micky Quinn.

The rest of your stories are simply pulled off the official Newcastle website and worded in your paper in a manner which is intended to make the reader think you gained the quotes directly from the individual concerned.

It really is desperate times for the Chronicle. I am certain your sales will reflect that.

If you are naïve to think I am in the minority please feel free to visit nufc.com and true-faith.co.uk.

Unfortunately for the Chronicle all reports suggesting any one takes anything Alan Oliver prints seriously are “wide of the mark”

    Regards

    Richard

Keeping your cards close to your chest is always a smart move and one not often practiced by those formally in charge at SJP. I have no problem with KK, MA and Dip Wick doing so.

What I do find irritating is the contradictions coming out of SJP over wage cutting, cost saving and a lack of stated ambition.

MA says he needs partners at NUFC because its an expensive seat he occupies – but he knew that before he ever got involved, if he didnt, he’s a first class pillock. If he expects NUFC to compete in Europe – one of his stated objectives – then investment in players is required.

These players have to be more capable than the ones they are replacing or you are not achieving progress. If you employ a more capable player then its not inconcievable that he will expect to earn more than the player he replaces which means the wage bill goes up, not down, as sure as night follows day. You dont replace a Ford Focus with a Ferrari and expect to cut costs, surely?

I look forward to some clarity of intention from the Board or from MA in particular. His current objectives are polar opposites from what is required.

Ed, thats probably the best policy. The aimar situation served to bring back some unwanted memories of the Modric saga.

I wonder if we were even in for Aimar.

Maybe we were offered him and that is why keegan said “we have been offered a few which havent been right for one reason or another.

Good pitch Ed, even if the timing was just a little out on this one seeing KK and spoken to the press. but agree 110% that the club has to communitcate at grssroots level with he fans.
Have just joined the NUFC Supporters Panel and what I see from my first meeting is a Club that does want to carry the supporters along with it, but there will be times they have for whatever reason to play there cards close to their chests. But your sentiments are spot on.

The club are conducting there buisness “in house” which is the way to go.

How can we possibly expect KK etal to talk about any potential future signings. Thus alerting other clubs, & also quite possibly inflating the price of said players?

Howay lads, keep the comments sensible, otherwise it makes all us Toon fans look like dummys.

He certainly knows how to spot a player too,ie rob lee, andy cole, beresford who all turned out to be great servents to the club.

iceman – I agree. I’ve not exactly hidden my feelings towards Keegan on here. I get the same response as you just have. It seems Keegan is untouchable. Yet he has proven nothing. We are supposed to be a big club, yet we appoint someone who’s last coaching job was at a “Soccer Circus” in Scotland.
We would have stood a better chance of attracting players with Shearer at the helm and I wouldn’t be happy with him leading us either.
We needed a top european manager. We got a circus entertainer.
