Not to be disrecpecful with the note, I love Nobby BUT to be considered the best player that Peru produced is too big of a title though, Research on “TEOFILO CUBILLAS” that would be the best player that Peru ever produced.

I assume he’d move the wife and kids to LA. The weather is certainly better and it’s win-win vis-a-vis trips to Peru. If it’s the education of his kids he’s thinking of, there are (obviously) great schools in LA they could transfer to from their probably wonderful schools in London.

Besides, has he been offered a spot at NUFC? Or anywhere else in England? I don’t see how this can be held against him.

I wish him the best and look forward to his abilities improving the MLS a bit.

It’s good to see great players like this coming in, even if it’s the end of their careers. Their knowledge will help our league get stronger. God knows we need it.

Not to clear on MLS structure, but I think teams can also trade their Designated Player (is that what it’s called?) slot. LA now has three of those–Beckham, Landon and Carlos Ruiz. I heard a rumor that they’re shipping Ruiz out soon and this slot could be used for Solano.

why does everyone keep on saying it will be quicker to get to his family from LA?

Nobbies immediete family, i.e. his kids and their mother are in London.

granted he will probably have some other family in Peru but the average person would want to be closer to their progeny than their relatives.

Galaxy STH here. I’ve known Nobby for a few years now since I worked with a Peruvian here in the states who was extremely proud of him. The Galaxy back line has been dreadful this season and the midfield has been a superhighway into our goal. If this signing pans out, it will really help a lot. I won’t go into it here, but you should check out how MLS teams PAY their players. There are very restrictive salary caps that limit how much you can pay players which obviously limits the kind of talent you can attract. Each team is given a single exception to the cap, which is Beckham for the Galaxy. Not sure how Nobby will be paid. He has to fit within the approx $2.5 million salary cap and we are pretty booked up already.

Ahhh lads… you sound like bunny boilers half of you. Nobby delivered consistently season upon season for us, he jumped at the chance to come back and then – upon being dropped more often than not by roeder – made a dignified exit as opposed to having a pop at the management.
remember SBr’s words about what a gent he was – damn right his guile and creativity was Beardsley-esque at unlocking defences and if only there was a young peruvian in his mould we could sign… oh yeah there is he’s called farfan but we rejected the opportunity TWICE to bring him here alas….
Nobby – a true toon legend… all the best stateside yee daft genius.

I don’t think it is Nobby who wanted to be away from Newcastle.

Can’t anyone remember the evening chronicle story a few years ago about where he ALLGEGEDLY had a thing with a toon lass?

Maybe that’s why his family went “Sarf” and why anywhere – apart from back to Newcastle would have been ok.

I think we all know that Nobby is torn between the love for his family & the love for the Toon & he made the right choice – family 1st.

Nobby will ALWAYS be a hero in the toon & he will be GUTTED that he can’t play for us again.

For those of you who say Nobby has went down in your estimation………SHAME ON YOU!

I very much doubt we will (in the near future – maybe never) have a hero the likes of Nobby playing in a B&W shirt!

I believe LA cut Abel Xavier from the roster this week.

Solano will be in LA with a HUGE Latin American presence. Flights from LA to Peru are a few hours, but basically the same time zone, so for visiting family it’s much, much easier than London.

He’s still a good player and will do very well in the league.

Consider–Juan Pablo Angel, who couldn’t get regular games at Aston Villa, was one of the league’s top scorers last season for the Red Bulls of New York (my local club…) and it’s easy to see that aging European and South American players can make huge impacts on the league here.

Not to mention the impact Cuactemoc Blanco has had. He’s been great for Chicago.

The quality’s not good, but it’s definitely getting better.

NY Red Bulls vs. Galaxy today–6:30 Eastern Time! I guess that’s 11:30 pm in the UK.

Too bad the Red Bulls are totally pants.

Wonder if Nobby will play today…

Faustino, dont be a nugget… Nobbies family is in LONDON, he said he wanted to leave NUFC so he could be closer to his family in LONDON. He said when the Hammers released him that he would like to rejoin NUFC but cant beause of the distance to his family in LONDON.

now hes in LA which is a tad farther from London than NEWCASTLE.

Nobby was and will always be a legend. Loved the lad and think we could do a lot worse than signing him again ourselves.

The experience, skill and work-ethic he brought to the Black ‘n’ White was un-matchable.

Best of luck to the lad and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was to become a huge success.

Any chance of a miniature feature on his progress for Galaxy? Just a thought Ed.
