Keegan – Gutierrez Can Play In Multiple Positions

In the Evening Chronicle today, Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has indicated that new signing Jonas Gutierrez is a player who can play in multiple positions.

Jonas Gutierrez – can play in a number of positions

And Kevin has already admitted that he has yet to decide just where he will actually play the Argentinian International.

We had assumed Jonas would play on the right wing, but we have a number of players who can play in that position, and just like he did earlier this year, Kevin will be toying with ideas as to how he can get the very best out of what he’s got by the end of August.

He could even play Jonas up front as a striker.

Keegan told the Chronicle today:

“When you see Jonas in training, you know he can play anywhere.”

“He is absolutely top quality, and the fans are going to really like him.”

“He knows the game, and he can play. He sees all the pitch, and maybe could play off a front man as well.”

“I’ve never asked him that, but when you see him in training, he is another one who can really run and cover the ground.”

Gutierrez was with in the squad at Hartlepool for Saturday’s friendly, even though he had the opportunity to sort out his personal things back in Palma.

It turns out that Newcastle and Real Mallorca still have to sort out the final transfer fee Newcastle will pay for the player, and we have a feeling it will be surprisingly small, once the dust settles.

Mallorca are said to be expecting some news from UEFA shortly.

While we have only signed two players this summer so far, which is the bad news, Kevin has got what he wanted – absolute quality in Gutierrez and Guthrie, which is the good news.   😀

I can see him playing a defensive 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 away from home, just off the lone striker.

But his goalscoring record is almost as good as Smiths!

KK needs to shut up and get back to signing players. We have months of silence then he’s been let off the leash and he’s going mental

I don’t agree with that, We will sign players and I’m starting to get sick of the fact people are saying we wont. Your all trying to act clever analysing what Keegan is saying and then straight away jumping to things. Howay man lads only woman jump to things. Get a grip support your team and believe. He said we need 4 quality players, We’ll effing get them. Back your team and watch this fantastic football club march on to where we belong!

    Well said GatesheadMag!

Howay lads we’ve signed two players other clubs havent signed any! Granted that guthrie and Spiderman aren’t the aimar and turan that everyone wanted but aslong as theyve came for the football and not for the money Im all for it!!

I think I speak for everyone when I say Im fed up of so called “big name signings” only to turn up, get paid loads, and not perform!! Who says that Turan and Aimar couldve done the job for us when theyve never played in the premiership??

We don’t need big names we need big players and by that I mean the likes of Rob Lee, Nobby, Warren Barton,Albert, Ginola etc. not big names when KK bought them but they made a name for themselves under Keegan and I am sure other players can do the same. Howay the lads and back the team!!!!!

    Dear Ed,

Keegan is berated for saying nothing and then lambasted for saying something! Let’s keep the faith with him. Players need to be flexible. We have a number of options in midfield and I’m certain we’ll have some pleasant surprises in defence before too long. But that is only a feeling.

    Regards,

    Neil

PS. The hols start today. Yeah!

Jonas will give us lots of option but we are still really short of numbers. The team still lack pace and we need to inject more pace in the team.

A bit of time till the transfer deadline, no need to worry about transfers yet. There hasnt been that much transfer activity at the top 10 clubs in the PL. Only the promoted clubs and near relegation clubs last year are buying crap.

We have to also blood the youngsters as well during the season, Our policy has changed we dont just buy players for the first team. Got to think long term.

Jonas, apparently, can play up front alongside a target man like Viduka. If this is the thinking then it either means Owen is going OR (and more likely) it’s a veiled threat to Owen that we could dispense with him if he doesn’t sign his reduced wage contract.

The proposed move for Modric is really puzzling me now.

Am i right in thinking Modric is an attacking midfielder and we bid app’ £16 million for him.

I dont understand if that money is available and Keegan wants a creative midfielder then why are’nt the club going for Bentley who can play right, left or behind the strikers or indeed Moutinho? Granted both are being over priced at above £15 million, but at least test the water, show a bit of ambition again.

The Modric bid is looking very much like our Rooney stunt a few seasons ago.

just because kk says the guy can play up top doesnt mean he ever intends to play him there. He’s just being kk – bigging him up and making him feel good. That’s the kk magic.

Like with milner – if kk says he’s thinking he might be better inside then Im almost certain its the right thing to do. Afterall this is the man who made an international centre back out of a reserve team forward in steve howey. barry venison was converted from a decent right back into an international holding midfielder. rob lee was brought in from the right wing and became one of the best center midfields the club has ever had. The list goes on.

    KK knows what he’s doing.

Will people stop going on about Bentley!!!

He made it clear how he felt about Newcastle (and it wasn’t positive) in an interview with the Guardian about a month or so before the season finished.

He will not join us, therefore we won’t waste our time bidding.

But bad news is the way he is saying that Milner can play in center and Jonas can play anywhere is meaning he is kinda admiting defeat on bringing any midfielders in he may get 1 or 2 players (striker, defender) that it due to tight fisted Ashley who i reacon said sell N Zogbia/Milner to get some money in.

gorskin – you reading too much into it mate. You’re working on assumptions. KK used to come out with statements like this all the time to make players feel good about themselves.

the fact is none of us really know what is going on. on september 1st we will all know where we stand with Ashley. until then i think it’s a bit harsh to be overly critical.

Fairly false attitudes from some people on here. What if we lose a few games.. ? does that mean we will ultimatlley get relegated!?? Your looking at things, then thinking the worst case scenario…. Paranoid or what. I’d suggest you go see a psyc. we have a few Conspiricy Theorists in the making here.

Much as agreed with Keegan that Jonas is a good player. But we need to see more player and not repeatedly talk about Jonas and Guthrie on how good they are.

Show us some actions through the acquisition of other new players.

have you ever considerd the reason he talks about these players is because journalists ask him questions about them and not cos he thinks ‘oh i’ll big them up to disguise our lack of transfer activity’
Stop being soft and going off the deep end, he said we’re going to get more so have a bit of faith! Besides its not a case of saying to the club we want him and thats it! its obviously a tricky and complicated process so give the blokes a chance
Keep the faith and wait and see

I agree, He is full of praise about our “New signing” and makes Declarations about Players not going anywhere seemingly masking the fact that no one else is coming in.
He says akin to: Duff is like a new player, Zog is born again, Milner and Jonas can play anywhere. We have just signed Taylor Trying to make good news out of nothing.

I too have the feeling that no one significant is coming, another youngster aged 17 or something then inflated by the press to make it appear another signing for the first team. I think we may have one more player coming in and no more.

michael12 there has to be more players coming in as we lost around 6 or 7 and only 2 came in and we had a really thin team last season..

so we got a few weeks yet and mike ash knows if he doesnt the fans will turn on him and not on keegan..

maybe wise my get some stick as well.
