Newcastle United Juniors will travel to Germany later this month to continue their pre-season preparations, ahead of their first league game of the season at Leicester City on August 23.
The club will be looking for the youngsters to do well this season, especially in the FA Youth Cup, where they had a disappointing time of it last year when they lost at the very first hurdle, after reaching the semi finals in the previous two years.
They went down 1-0 to Shrewsbury Town, at St. James’ Park last December, in what was a shock defeat for the lads.
It would be great if we could win the FA Youth Cup again, which we last did back in 1985, when a certain young Paul Gascoigne was in the side, and we took Watford apart 4-1. Before that we won in 1962 with Bobby Moncur and David Craig in the side, when we beat Wolves 2-1.
The youngsters will be based in the city of Duisburg, which is in the western part of the Ruhr Area.
They are scheduled to play in three friendly matches against German teams.
They will take on Bayer Leverkusen on July 29 (kick-off 4pm), MSV Duisburg on July 31 (5pm) and VFL Bochum on August 2 (1pm).
