The bastion of truthful reporting in sports - The Sun - has today surpassed itself by saying Newcastle United have offered £5M plus Charles N’Zogbia for Celtic’s top winger Aiden McGeady.
 Charles N’Zogbia - we hope he stays at Newcastle
That mind you, only a few days after Aiden has signed a new 5 year deal at Celtic, so it’s a bit hard to believe, as usual.
And only recently Kevin has said he doesn’t want to lose any of his current players, so a part exchange makes no sense.
Once question we would have is how much better is Aiden McGeady than Charles N’Zogbia?
After all Charles is an excellent young prospect, so what would Newcastle get out of it, other than losing £5M?
McGeady had a great season last year in the SPL, there’s no doubt about that, and the player is well known to top Premier League clubs. In fact it turns out that Arsenal had tried to sign the youngster when he was just 16 years old.
Aiden made his senior debut for Celtic at just 18 years old, and has already excelled in the Champions League — which he wouldn’t get to play in if he joined Newcastle, although he would get a better financial deal.
And why on earth would N’Zogbia want to go to Glasgow, since it’s in the other direction he wants to move - to London, to be with some of his family. That’s if he moves at all of course, and we hope he doesn’t.
So we give very little credence to this Sun report - in fact none at all.

absolute rubbish. no way is this happening. mcgeady had a good season in the SPL, i dont think he’d be able to hack it in the prem. there’s no question we’d be losing out here, to give away zogs, and 5 mil, would just be madness.

By the way, it’s rumoured that Bullard is available. Which is probably also untrue but I rate him. In fact, when both he and Bentley (a couple of years ago) were available for very cheap fees when leaving Wigan and Arsenal I thought we should have gone for it then. Anyway, Bullard at 4M (?) would be a good addition.
Might as well ignore the Zog/McGeady story. KK/Wise are probably working on bringing a player or two in that few have heard of!

Just to buck the trend, i would do the deal.
Now i’ll just state that first and foremost i dont for one minute believe this trash in The Sun, however:
I have very little time for this very talented but moody, uncommited bundle of trouble. Is he worth it? Well Jenas, Dyer and Bellamy were all superior (imo) to Zog but we got shot of those guys and believe its only a matter of time before Zog comes out with the London excuse again and finally we do cave in and sell him. Lets hope he doesnt have to go around picking fights with team mates before this happens.
McGready is one of the top five players in Scotland and before everyone slags Scotland off, there have been and will always be great players come from this league.
However McGready is an out and out LW, like Duff and Zog is more adaptable.
If it was up to me, i would flog the Zog and buy Arda Turan, but then i’m not Kev or more to the point Ashley!

It really piss*s me off when people use copycat names to slag of others on the blog. I had a load of hassle when someone did the same to me some time back and people couldn’t understand why I had suddenly become an insulting bast*rd, although his writing style was sufficiently different for most to realise there was something amiss. hleb is better than arshavin, as tom toon has rightly stated stats done means much for any midfielder because they do more than just score goals and set goals up, they run the play.
hleb has taken the game by the scruff of the neck on a number of occasisons, compared to arshavin who is a good footballer but looks great because of the league and his team around him compliment him, re-watch the games in the uefa cup all of the commentators make this note on a number of occasions

From what I understand, McGeady is quicker and a real star winger. If he had the right attitude, this would be a very good deal for Newcastle.

It is not just stats that make a player-it is the influence a player has on the squad. Does he disrupt the squad, or does he inspire. If Zog unsettles a squad–this shits on morale and the team suffers. Maybe this is why he has to go?

I agree with Mathew Tom. Utter rubbish from the Sun as usual but it would be a great deal nonetheless for NUFC. Zogs a good player but if he’s not 100% commited to NUFC, what’s the point in keeping him. He’ll just unsettle the team spirit.
McGeady is a far better player. Hard to say if he’s worth the extra £5m but in today’s market, he could well be…. well with Spurs wanting more than £30m for Berbatov, anything goes!!!
I totally disagree with the ones who say that although he’s good enough for scotland, he won’t hack it in the prem…… errr he’s also shown he can play in the Champions league - and play it very well too!!! Has Zog???? Numpties!!!!
