Danny Guthrie Wants More Goals At Newcastle

Danny Guthrie has talked to nufcTV today, and has said he hopes he can score some goals for Newcastle this coming season.

Danny Guthrie - scored within 8 minutes of debut for Newcastle

The 21-year-old found the back of the net for Newcastle at Hartlepool after just 8 minutes of coming on last Saturday, and that was after he had already set up Damien Duff for his second goal.

Guthrie told nufcTV today that he is hoping to add to his goals tally when the new season kicks off in just over three weeks time.

“Playing for Bolton last season there wasn’t really much opportunity to get forward because we were often on the back foot or holding on,”

“But in this team, where we get the ball down and play, there will hopefully be a lot more opportunity to get forward and get some goals.”

“It was great to get a goal on my debut and hopefully I’ll add to that next season.”

Guthrie has already made a big impact with Newcastle fans, and it doesn’t hurt that Kevin has already compared him with former Newcastle stars Paul Bracewell and Rob Lee.

Danny continued:

“It was nice to hear being compared to players such as that.”

“But now I’ve got to get my head down and work hard and hopefully repay the gaffer’s faith in bringing me here,”

“I’m feeling sharp and I’m really looking forward to the next game at Doncaster on Saturday.”

This lad could turn out to be the signing of the summer for Newcastle, as he seems to have everything it takes to star in a Kevin Keegan side.

Certainly his attitude is just first class.

We’ll be able to take another look at the youngster on Saturday afternoon at Doncaster - but we’ve definitely liked what we’ve seen so far, that’s for sure.

Comments welcome.

danny guthrie sounds like a gem in the making, and he makes a good point, at bolton he never had the chance to get forward and get some goals because bolton were always backfooting it, thank god keegan is hear now and we will not be doing that as often as with the fat controler and co

HPS… It´s starting to get a bit much with you now… We understand you doesn´t like MA… I for one want to go in here and discuse Guthrie, and then Guiteirrez on the other topic… And time and time again we have to read that people think MA is tight…

    We get it!!!!!!!!!

Apparently in an ‘unofficial’ interview with Oba Martins he was quoted as saying that Guthrie is a player that has surprised everyone in training and that he shows real quality. So hopefully a very good sign!

Neil B: Everyone expected him to be crap? That’s a good sign :D

Lets wait and see what the lads like when the season kicks off . I think that he must be a good player when Bolton fans were gutted that they did not sign him , after watching him for a full season . Also Keegan rates him and that for me says enough.
