Bassong Starts For Newcastle at Doncaster

Kevin Keegan will finally give a run out over French Metz trialist Sebastien Bassong today, as Newcastle take on Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium at 3:00 pm today.

Sebastien Bassong – big chance today at center-back

The 22-year-old 6’1″ Metz defender will line-up alongside Claudio Cacapa, in the center of the Newcastle defense this afternoon, with Steven Taylor and Jose Enrique completing the back four.

New boy Danny Guthrie is handed his first start for Newcastle, after his heroics of last Saturday, and Cameroon International Geremi returns from his extended break to captain the side, in the absence of Michael Owen.

A nice touch from Kevin Keegan, for the former Newcastle club captain.

Shola Ameobi, who is not expected to be at the club come the end of August, partners Alan Smith in attack, in the absence of Oba Martins, whose mother was tragically killed earlier in the week.

20 year-old Dutch goalkeeper is named among the substitutes and is expected to play the last 30 minutes of the game, and should get a good welcome from the traveling Toon Army.

TEAMS

Doncaster Rovers team to follow:

Newcastle United: Steve Harper, Steven Taylor, Claudio Cacapa, Sebastien Bassong, Jose Enrique, Damien Duff, Danny Guthrie, Geremi (c), Charles N’Zogbia, Shola Ameobi, Alan Smith
Subs: David Edgar, Frank Wiafe Danquah, Ben Tozer, Callum Morris, Tim Krul, Mark Doninger, Ryan Donaldson, Jonny Godsmark

its strange that we have soo many options in midfield i dont mean in numbers but in the positions that the players will play

    geremi CM RM RB

    Guthrie LM CM RM

    Nzogbia LM CM

    Duff LM RM

could be complicated but if worked effectively then it will confuse the funk out of donny

First of all – does anyone know why Milner’s not in the team?

Secondly – why is it that Sebastien Bassong who isn’t actually a Newcastle player is elligable to play when Jonas Guttierez isn’t?

bassong can play any non-competitive match while he is on trial with us and have gave us permisson with his registration, guttirez technically isnt an offical newcastle player due to mallorca still having his registration.

and i rekon shola will stay now … too few in number to let him go… you never know … he might turn good and win a new contract lol

games not being broadcast live so no stream … wait for highlights tonight or just watch SSN now for updates

aye bassong sounds like he’s had a decent game!
“46, give us a wave, 46, give us a wave” is my favourite so far, haha.
keeping with the comedic theme, hull are 4-0 down to crewe, some lad at hull has missed a penalty, and given 2 away…howler, haha.

44min – The appearance of a United fan in a Spider-Man masks brings chants of “Spider-Man’s a Geordie”, but that doesn’t beat the earlier offering of “If 46 scores we’re on the pitch!”

Haha sounds like the lads are having a great time down there! Just hope the goals come in the second half.

“If 46 scores we’re on the pitch!”

Oh look, I don’t ‘understand’ some english way of comment football.

It means that if Bassong scores a goal the supporters will invade the field? (the music obviouly, cause I know this won’t happen)
