Newcastle Look To Argentine For Defenders

Newcastle United have set their sights on potentially three Argentinian defenders.

Nicholas Burdisso – Newcastle interest in Inter defender

Newcastle’s recruitment team of Dennis Wise and Tony Jimenez, who need to start working overtime from now until the end of August, have reportedly been on the trail of Deportivo La Coruna’s Fabricio Coloccini for some time, as we have reported many times before.

Today’s Evening Chronicle is reporting that Newcastle are also looking at Coloccini’s fellow Argentine International Nicolas Burdisso, who is now with Inter Milan.

Both are former players with Boca Juniors, and they have played together in the Argentine squad for five years, and therefore would have no trouble gelling, if we managed to sign both of them.

And the fact we already have Jonas Gutierrez at the club, will allow all three to settle quickly if the other two did arrive.

Coloccini is 26 years old now and has played for his National side 27 times, while Burdisso has 20 caps and is 27, and both have played in the Argentine defense together.

However, Burdisso played European Champions League Football with Inter-Milan last season, and it would seem surprising if Newcastle can persuade him to move to Tyneside.

The third Argentine Newcastle are still hoping to persuade to come to Tyneside is 19 year-old left-back Emiliano Insua, from Liverpool.

But since he has only this month signed a 3 year contract at the Merseyside club, we’d be surprised if he will arrive on Tyneside this summer.

But we will have to step our recruitment now big time, so we can get the 5 top players we need before the end of August.

Comments welcome.

Burdisso was poor defensively last season hence why Mourinho will let him leave, does score goals though. Collocini is better and bigger I think he would suit us better. I would prefer to get him and Insua in who is quality. I would also sign Appiah, and Albiol.

These 2 are pure quality. Get them & a couple of creative midfielders (Arshavin & Arda are still available!) & a target man. We’ll def be in the mix for top 6 if that happens.

Hitman, he was willing to pay £16m for Modric & £7m for Woodgate. It’s not like he’s short of money! If he doesn’t make funds available I think the fans should protest against him.

who says he was willing to pay for modric?
there’s every chance the modric bid was phantom and we never actually stuck up the money for him.

Just get rid of the waste of space £50k a week + earners like Viduka, Smith & Barton & get some good players in! We’ve just lost 1-0 to Doncaster! Smith, Ameobi & Enrique are CRAP!

I totally agree with Ross G on this one, one player i feel we should have been perusing and i feel would be a great addition to our small side is Raul Albiol. Big and strong, a commanding player, also still young at 22/23?! Come on MA open that cheque book of yours and give us something to shout about.

Rio Plata basin, home of some of the worlds greatest footballers.
    Wouldnt mind a teamfull.
When you think W.Ham had at their disposal one of the worlds best DMs and he could`nt get a game, how dumb was that.
Not to mention his buddy now where he is appreciated at Man U. who also had a hard time getting on the pitch, phew, gotta be the dumbest manager ever, no wonder they fired him.
Love to watch the Argie league, the fans are fanatical, great spectacle, good football.
Yo Wise guy! go get a bunch of em.

Coloccini decent player. not interested in Burdisso though. we hv decent senior defenders and relatively good youngsters at the back, why not instead go and look at more Argentines and SAs to join our depleted attack force. Argentine footballers known for their skills and creativity in attack but not quite really top-class defending. why we go the other way. pathetic.

get real with the Modric conspiracy people for crying out loud… KK commented on it, and that would mean he is lying through his teeth then… Now why would he do that? he wants backing and will need supporters to press for it too… This is getting paronoid and some of you people needs to think a bit more realistic.

Happy if we bought burdisso for 3 mill or less, colocinni for 6 mill or less and would be very unhappy if we bought insua as he doesn’t even know himself where he plays
