Arsenal Challenge Newcastle For Gokhan Inler

News in the People today that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is making a late move for Switzerland’s Euro 2008 star Gokhan Inler.

Gokhan Inler – Arsenal now after the player?

We had thought that Inler was a definite target for Newcastle during the summer, but only recently his Italian club, Udinese Calcio said the Newcastle interest was untrue.

But the People is reporting today, that Arsenal are now fighting Newcastle United for his signature.

If that is true, then we’ve waited too long, because we can hardly compete with the Champions League Football, Arsenal can offer the player.

From what we’ve seen of Gokhan Inler, he would be a terrific signing for Newcastle, but we’re not even sure we’re now after the player.

Wenger is said to have been in contact with the Udinese management, and has been informed the 6’0″attacking midfielder has a get-out clause in his contract of just over £5M.

The People is reporting also that Inler’s agent has been in talks with Newcastle United for over two weeks – so if that’s true, what’s taking so long?

But now Arsenal have come in, and which club makes the deal will depend not only one who can make the best deal, but what the club can offer the player in terms of European football next season, and Newcastle cannot offer any of that, unfortunately.

The news is that (once again) Newcastle are concerned because they thought they already had a deal, but Wenger’s interest will have submarined that it seems.

Inler is at least as capable as Gareth Barry, and so  much cheaper, and rated the most gifted player in his Swiss homeland, as he has loads of skill and good vision.

We don’t know if this story is true, but if it is it seems that it’s both good news and bad news for Newcastle.

The good news is that we are close to getting Inler, but the bad news is that Arsenal have now entered the fray.

However, if we can get him – it would be an excellent signing for the Tyneside club.

Comments welcome.

We have no chance now if the gunners have entered the race, seems like we have been to slow again! Shame cos he would have been a good signing for the money.

bench warmer at emirates or star player at sjp. know where i would go if i were him.. he wouldn’t have to fight with the likes of fabregas and denilson for a starting spot.. instead he would have to contend with danny guthrie for a starting spot. really kind of a no-brainer.

Udinese signed the very talented Danish player Niki Zimling last week. He plays in the same position as Inler and could be seen as a direct replacement. So, it seems very likely that Udinese will allow Inler to leave.

Has all the hallmarks of lets invent some news on a slow day.
Both clubs were aware of him long ago and if we had wanted him the club would have put in a bid.
He will go to niether club.

Seetow – Inler would walk into Arsenal’s first 11, they dont have a DM.

Why do you pretend to know it all when you so obviously know nothing. Abou Diaby is their defensive midfielder now that Gilberto has moved on.
You play too much Footy Manager kidda!

Do you really think they are going to play Diaby there, no they wont, Arsenal fans complain so much about how he gives the ball away too much.

And surely if i played footy manager, i’d know Arsenal had a DM, what a way to contradict yourself.

has no1 noticed the fact that we keep having alleged interest in players and deals wrapped up and then the deals fallin through….when the club has the new policy of not speaking about players until they have signed….this is because they are all stories made byt he media and then the deals have to fall through because there was not interest int he player int he first place, and even if there was…the media would know….

He box-to-box really. He was an AM/St in his early days but last season he played DM because of ijuries to Udinese’s DMs such as Obodo.

How so, if i know about a player i will share it.

You on the other hand are too scared to give your normal user name other than that you are Fernando or you could possibly be a sad voyeur who must have been watching this site for a while to make these sweeping statements about me.

You are only too quick to shoot down people who post facts that YOU cant deal with, like my mate who posted the link from Marca about Aimar not coming to Newcastle. You berated him for it and now when you get it back, you cannot hack it. 😀

Now you know why I dont like you, you arrogant know it all little creep!

ED, why where you thinking nufc was not in talks with him? I told you already, that he was/is, becouse a swiss newspaper reported so…now that wenger (the voyeur) has thrown his hat into the race I’m not sure if we can get him…

INLER is also very settled down in Udinese and that was the hardest part to confince him yet…I thought newcastle almost did the job – and now wenger grabs the fruit? no way!! hope he will come and we will love him, absolutely love him!
