The People newspaper is reporting today that Oba Martins will hand Kevin Keegan a much needed boost.

Oba Martins – will return well before the start of the season

The news is that Oba wants to return to Newcastle, well  before the start of the season.

The 23 year-old Newcastle striker was said to be inconsolable after flying back to Lagos, three days ago, following the tragic death of his mother.

Oba’s mother Alhaja, 62, died in her car as she attempted to move it away from a blazing petrol tanker, that was close to her home in Lagos, the Nigerian capital. And Alhaja was all set to move to Newcastle permanently in September, to be with her famous son.

Oba has now told his close friends in Lagos he wants to return well before the start of the season.

Only yesterday, the  Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan talked about the tragedy, and said he told Oba to take as much time as he needed, however long that may be.

One thing that is certain is Newcastle fans will take Oba even more to their hearts than they already have done, after this terrible tragedy.

And Oba will get one monumental welcome when he does finally play again at St. James’ Park – from his extended family and friends on Tyneside.

Oba is very well liked on Tyneside, to say the least,  and the death of his mother has come as a shock to everybody at the club, and Oba has the complete sympathy of Newcastle fans all over the world.

    – ED HARRISON ***

Someone mentionedthe other day that their wereno longer individual songs for players.
Surely amongst the fans the must be someone who can can up with a chant for Oba which can be organised to be sung at the first home game.

Just a suggestion that perhaps you could write an article and we could vote for a simple yet meaningful chant to sing on that day and give him a lift.

That’s great. I think it’s too soon but I’m not him. He should judge it, but what’s best for himself and his family, not us. He’s a strong wee lad, that’s clear. He’s just a kid. Hopefully we’ll remember this in a few months time.
