Newcastle Working Several Transfer Deals

Kevin Keegan will step up the search for new players, as he gave another good interview with the Sunday Sun today.

Kevin Keegan – did we just sign somebody?   😀

It appears that Newcastle have several irons in the fire for new players.

It seems like Kevin still likes Blackburn’s Stephen Warnock, and wants Newcastle to increase the bid closer to the £5M Blackburn have priced him at, even though they only paid £1.5M 18 months ago when they bought the player from Liverpool.

But £5M for Warnock would not be good business for Newcastle.

Kevin Keegan has also indicated that right-back is his other overwhelming priority in the transfer market, even though we have Stephen Taylor and David Edgar who can back up Habib Beye there.

But Kevin will want to replace the injury-prone Stephen Carr, who was hardly ever fit due to his continual hamstring problems.

Kevin said today:

“The two most important areas are left-back and right-back — we’ve no cover there at all at the moment,”

“In midfield and up front, we are more or less OK, because we have a lot of players to come back.”

“But we need more specialist full-backs. We are looking for two or three players, and they are the positions we need.”

Keegan is looking at putting together a deal to sign Sebastien Bassong.

The young Frenchman showed up very well yesterday, and showed some good leadership as he kept directing the experienced Claudio Cacapa, on where he should be.

But that was good to see, and the youngster looked very promising.

Seb played the whole game at center-half yesterday and we’d be rather surprised if Kevin didn’t want to sign the youngster, but whether he will or not is still open.

Seems like Kevin will also want a couple of full backs in addition to the young Frenchman.

Kevin talked about the youngster after the game yesterday:

“I thought he (Bassong) did very well, and we will see where we go with him,”

“We are looking at others as well, but we have seen him for a week, and today was a good test for him.”

We have been linked with Bassong, Collocini, Burdisso, Warnock, Inler, Larssen and Senderos in recent days, and any of these would be more than decent signings for the club.

What do you think?   Let us know.

Comments welcome.

Sign Bassong! He looked quality yesterday! Although it was against Doncaster he showed all his signs of quality. I would also like Seb Larrsson! I think he’s a quality player and what we need in the centre of midfield

Reports in Spain say we’re closing in on Collocini with comments from his manager saying that if he leaves that “it’ll be the biggest f*ck up of the summer”.

If you see the list of names we are reported to be interested in today i would be ecstatic if we got half of them.
Inler ,warnock the 2 Argentines and bassong would do me.Baptiste is wanted by Roma and would be too expensive and Senderos is no better than what we now have. Diouf i would not be happy with . Imagine if he spat at Barton on the training ground . Lets not forget all the players we have been linked with today come from the press and unfortunately not from the club . But heres hoping that things will happen this week

Why are we not looking at Shorey??? Every now and then you see a link come up but it never goes anywhere. I think he would be an excellent buy for us. He has premier experience and he is English just in case the quota rule comes through.

Yeah Matt @9 cheers for that altough i have allways had faith in us for this season coming with KK at the club. It is still brilliant to listen to a KK interview and gives me more incouragement that over the next few yrs we well start to get back to were we should be, challenging at the top

What about Joao Moutinho? He’s pure class & he wants to leave Sporting. Everton are the only club to have bid for him. We should get in there! He’ll be the new Peter Beardsley for us if we sign him. He can play in the hole, where Owen was playing towards the end of last season.

Burdisso can play in every pos in defense, also left back… Perhaps a reason why he could be of use.

    Uhmmm…”Apparently we’ve offered Duff for Warnock.” ???

There’s no such thing as an “apparently” unless it’s reported by a Toon official or KK himself and I think it’s extremelu unlikly KK woudl consider that swap.

We have a strange squad in that in goalkeepers and wingers/wide players we are amongst the very best in the Prem (aside from Ronaldo re-wingers) but just more threadbare in other areas. Unless we can get the wide players to play well centrally in which case we’re potentially fine. And blood the youngsters more too, mf and attack.

I would consider Faye as defensive central mf too, especially after signing another couple of defenders.

I will believe this when i see it.

United are set to finally land Berbatov this week, for a fee of £24m. (Sunday Express)

Barcelona, AC Milan, Newcastle and Manchester City are all chasing Berbatov too. (Sunday Express)

    Matt – thanks excellent link…

Not too sure what’s going on at the club from that interview to be honest, seemed to be a lot of coded messages to the fans….eg
    * He’s not involved in any of the negotiations – who better to sell the club to someone
    * Needs 2-3 players (It was 5 or 6 only a couple of weeks ago)
    * A lot of references to Spurs
    * MA looking for someone to share the club with

I’m probably just being paranoid; I would be devastated if Keegan left as a result of not getting the support he deserves.
