Kevin Keegan will step up the search for new players, as he gave another good interview with the Sunday Sun today.
Kevin Keegan – did we just sign somebody?  😀
It appears that Newcastle have several irons in the fire for new players.
It seems like Kevin still likes Blackburn’s Stephen Warnock, and wants Newcastle to increase the bid closer to the £5M Blackburn have priced him at, even though they only paid £1.5M 18 months ago when they bought the player from Liverpool.
But £5M for Warnock would not be good business for Newcastle.
Kevin Keegan has also indicated that right-back is his other overwhelming priority in the transfer market, even though we have Stephen Taylor and David Edgar who can back up Habib Beye there.
But Kevin will want to replace the injury-prone Stephen Carr, who was hardly ever fit due to his continual hamstring problems.
Kevin said today:
“The two most important areas are left-back and right-back — we’ve no cover there at all at the moment,â€
“In midfield and up front, we are more or less OK, because we have a lot of players to come back.”
“But we need more specialist full-backs. We are looking for two or three players, and they are the positions we need.â€
Keegan is looking at putting together a deal to sign Sebastien Bassong.
The young Frenchman showed up very well yesterday, and showed some good leadership as he kept directing the experienced Claudio Cacapa, on where he should be.
But that was good to see, and the youngster looked very promising.
Seb played the whole game at center-half yesterday and we’d be rather surprised if Kevin didn’t want to sign the youngster, but whether he will or not is still open.
Seems like Kevin will also want a couple of full backs in addition to the young Frenchman.
Kevin talked about the youngster after the game yesterday:
“I thought he (Bassong) did very well, and we will see where we go with him,â€
“We are looking at others as well, but we have seen him for a week, and today was a good test for him.â€
We have been linked with Bassong, Collocini, Burdisso, Warnock, Inler, Larssen and Senderos in recent days, and any of these would be more than decent signings for the club.
What do you think? Â Let us know.
