Nicolas Burdisso Top Defensive Target For Newcastle

News again today that Kevin Keegan has put Inter Milan star Nicolas Burdisso at the top of his summer transfer list.

Nicolas Burdisso – in a scrap during Valencia game

The Newcastle manager is said to be preparing a £6M swoop for the Argentine left-back today in the People, and this was essentially also reported yesterday afternoon by the local Newcastle Evening Chronicle – so there may be some truth in this.

The 27-year-old star, who suffered a broken nose during a Champions League scrap with Valencia, could be tempted with a move to England if Newcastle are indeed willing to offer up to £6M to Jose Mourinho, for the defender.

Newcastle need another left back to challenge young Spaniard Jose Enrique this coming season, and Nicolas can also play in the center of defense too.

We half expect Newcastle to sign Sebastien Bassong very soon, after the 22 year-old had an impressive debut for the club at center-back yesterday against Doncaster Rovers, and the Frenchman can also play at left back.

Newcastle are also said to still be interested in Blackburn’s Stephen Warnock and have not yet given up on the former Liverpool player, who is touring with his club team right now.

However, the news is that the 20-times capped Argentine, Burdisso is Kevin’s top target, and only yesterday the Newcastle manager said he was confident of signing new players within the next 7-10 days.

Seems like Kevin has quite a few choices to make.

Comments welcome.

    Would be a welcome addition.

Keegan confirms Barton will stay, and Owen will sign a new contract in the next 2 or 3 weeks.

    Please no.

He may play for Inter Milan an Argentina but he is seriously no better than what we have.

I still believe we need at least 5 new players – Last season Keegan’s said our squad was too small, since then we let how many go…4 or 5!

    ….Fingers crossed

Haven’t heard great things about him, but he’ll certainly be an improvement to our current wafer-thin squad.

Seems like a good player if he has 20 caps for Argentina.
    Anyone know much about him?

He is hardly a top defensive target…someone of the ilk of john terry would be a top defensive target.
If he was top Jose is not daft and would keep him top defensive targets cost 20m plus not 5-6million.

surely he is more ok than senderos? i’m speaking from what i’ve seen, so it is by no means comprehensive but everytime i watch senderos he makes a costly error but everytime i’ve seen burdisso i generally don’t notice him that much, which isn’t a bad thing for a defender!

Trust me this guy is quality, Man U wanted him last season. Beye, Collocini, Taylor, Burdisso would be a really good back 4. Just hope we can keep Given, he’s being linked away again.

Man United wanted Burdisso about 3 seasons ago.

Whos playing LB, none of those can, all of those players can only play rb and cb.

Senderos is nothing better than we already have every so often he makes costly mistakes. We have been there before with Bramble , when sir bobby signed titus he said he could be a future England international . Senderos is taking the same path , promising when he broke into the big time but has not improved since .At 23 years old how much longer will it take to develop ? there comes a time when the term bright prospect does not apply any more .

SirJasonToon – Do you not you not possess a spacebar as well as shift key, or are you just illiterate..?

No no, seriously, I wouldn’t be able to accept something that you obviously still require, although, I do have a Collins dictionary that you are welcome to use. I’ll ask my daughter if you could possibly have a few of her old colouring books, that appears to be your level correct.

To be serious though, there really is no need to keep having a go at us Toon fans – look we’re all pleased for you Spuds. Spurs have made some good signings, however, please talk about them on your own forum and leave us all alone, we’re just not interested.

Alex – £6mil does appear rather excessive. Personally, apart from a few howlers from Taylor, I was rather pleased with the CB partnership towards the end of the season. For this reason, I would like to see someone young brought in, and gradually blood them, merely for the sake of continuity.

I sometimes wonder if I suffer from some sort of name dyslexia. ie When I (and others on the blog) mention a player who we think would be a good buy for us. Then Tom Toon says no, he is too slow, too fast, too fat, too thin , too old , too young (you get the drift). Then he suddenly starts salivating over one of the worst CBs in the league I start to think have I got the players name wrong for some reason. Sorry Tom but I do have to question your judgement at times.

Incidently I watched the ManC game on telly and am so thankfull we did not get Dunne. He looked ok when not under any pressure but as soon as that young winger was at him he was lost and again he was to slow and ponderous to get a decent foul in. And, again I spotted him turning his back on the ball rather than trying to block a shot.
Wouldn’t mind us getting that winger though, Propiart or something like that, looks like the new Ronaldo.

I agree with black and white Blood towards the end of last season Taylor & Faye were building a decent partnership , if allowed to build on that they could become a tight unit . Taylor is still learning and will hopefully cut out the errors that he sometimes makes . The longer he gets to build a partnership up and not constantly having to get used to a new back 4 so as under Allardyce the quicker he will learn and develop .

It seems like the financial expectations of most Prem teams is far more modest than it used to be. 6M for a 27 year-old who has been capped by Argentina 20 times doesn’t seem to be an awful lot but we’re used to keeping it tighter now. Which is also a good thing too, of course.

Seems likes aeons ago when, to pluck just one example from the dove-from-above, we paid 7M for Carl Cort!

You dont know who Sorin is?!?!?!

    Are you joking?

Hes got over 70/80 caps for Argentina i think.

Plays LB, DM or LM, they (Hamburg) released him because he has become very injury prone in his old age, hes about 32 now. Still he is useful when fit, skillful and aggressive.

Burdisso looks unlikely now, it seems he’s turned down Fiorentina and wants to stay.
