We are getting reports from Spain that say Fabricio Coloccini is expected to sign for Newcastle United shortly.
Fabricio Coloccini – signing for Newcastle today?
There were reports earlier today that his agent had said Newcastle had bid around 10M euro (£8M) for the player, and that the only offer on the table was from Newcastle United.
Coloccini was also withdrawn from the club’s trip to Venezuela for a pre-season camp.
However, the new news seems to be that Deportivo have now accepted the bid from the Newcastle club, so there will presumably now be ongoing negotiations with the player on his personal terms.
It’s important the club move very quickly before other clubs can move in – but so far so good, although with our experiences this summer, it will not be official until the club announces this on their official web site at www.nufc.co.uk .
But this breaking news has to be so far so good for Newcastle fans – let’s hope we can wrap this deal up today – and sign him quickly.
Comments welcome.

Comment #6Deportivo’s Coloccini will sign for Newcastle today
Monday 28 July 2008 – 11:45:28 – Click to post or view
It has just been announced in the Spanish media that Deportivo’s Fabricio Coloccini will sign for Newcastle “in the next few hours”.
The player and his agent, Marcelo Lombilla, have submitted a formal offer to the club of a transfer of 10 million euros, which is expected to be accepted.
Deportivo La Coruna are in a financial crisis and are desperate for sales to refill the coffers. This will just be the first of many deals in the coming weeks.
Negotiations have proceeded quicker than expected and Coloccini could be in Newcastle as early as tomorrow. Newcastle have already agreed personal terms with the player and he will sign a four year contract.
The only stumbling block to the deal is that Depor want Newcastle to pay the full amount in cash immediately but Newcastle want to pay in instalments. But that is not insurmountable.
The Argentine international had told the club that he wanted to leave when he came back from the World Cup Qualifying games, and he has admitted that Newcastle have come up with the best offer and has made up his mind fully.

Comment #8Ed have you not learnt from the Aimar fiasco?
Say nothing till it’s an absolutely nailed on done deal. I know you are only trying to report current news issues but if this one goes belly up as well, there are going to be a lot more disappointed fans wrongly blaming you again.

Comment #10if Keegan’s involved: signed already
if it’s Wise Jimenez: off to Spurs
I just can’t help feeling that Newcastle now have the reputation of being tightwads with wages.
As a result of this, I don’t think agents are touting their players to us any more. Previously, NUFC would be swamped with videos, portfolios and phone-calls for greasy agents all giving their players the big sell. All the players are being touted to Spurs and Man City.
Now it’s all Guthries, Chimbondas and ageing players from Europe.
Not that I have anything against Guthrie, I think he’ll be vital to our success this year

Comment #12Nick Dryden – whats the point of this site if Ed doesn’t put anything up until its already happend?
Surely the aim of this site is to encourage debate about whats being said regarding NUFC whether it happens or not. And I dont remember anyone blaming Ed or this site for Aimar not signing
Keep up the good work Ed

Comment #14As far as I’m concerned there’s a lot of speculation around this one again… still, ever the optimist I’ll just sit here and quietly hope for the best.
It’s a bit of a gamble though, I think – he’s a very aggressive player with a temper, if he turns that into useful qualities then he could be absolutely immense for us.
Just have to wait and see now…

Comment #15Greg – I’m please that were not being touted for players only interested in money anymore – surely its a good sign for the future.
The current wage structure will only remain in place until we are involved once again in Europe and subsequently earning more cash. I wouldn’t be suprised if any new contracts reflect this

Comment #16So far I have been bitterly disapointed, with the tranfer targets we are getting and beeing linked with.
Coloccini is an ok player but not a fantastic target.
My prediction for next season right now is that a relegation battle is what we have to look forward to.

Comment #18greg – and your source on this is?
How do you know that Wise would cock things up? Yet again another post by someone who has an agenda. How do you know Wise wasn’t involved in the Spiderman deal? He more than likely was.
And, yes we are the only team with a scouting network and every other team in the PL just waits until we unearth the next Drogba, Ronaldo, Rooney, before stealing them from under our noses. If NUFC know how good a player is, especially an established international, you can bet your house every other club in the league also know how good he is.

Comment #19Can’t be true, too much money spent by MA and apparantly we’re only paying a couple of million a player according to 1 or 2 of the bloggers here anyway !
Too much press and could be sold elsewhere if we’re not careful, also he’s unproved in EPL so could be a gamble but would be good to have here imo and another Argentinian international. This also means long trips away playing for his team…… pros and cons imo.

As for those saying this shouldn’t be reported as it’s not official on nufc.co.uk, let me say this – if this were the case, this site would but nothing but an nufc.co.uk commentary website.
Well, it isn’t!!! It’s the great nufcblog.com where rumours in the press are commented upon and then allowed for us, the fans, to further comment! Ed makes no pretense that this has any truth and often states clearly at the start ‘this probably aint true and yes we’ve had our hearts broken more than once this transfer window BUT, sod it – this is what’s being said, this is what I think – what do you think?’
Personally, I think it’s bloody great if we get him. Argie international. Got Guttierezz to play alongside, and let’s face it, anyone in the Argie team is gonna be at least half decent.
Get it done Wisey, man!
