Newcastle Make Formal Bid For Coloccini

The agent of Deportivo La Coruna Argentine star Fabricio Coloccini, has reported today that his player has been offered a move to Newcastle United.

Fabricio Coloccini – Newcastle have entered formal bid

The Argentina international, who is rated around the £8M figure, has been linked to a host of clubs over the summer, including Tottenham Hotspur.

However, his agent Marcelo Lombilla has said today that Kevin Keegan and Newcastle have made a formal move to sign the center-back, who is also comfortable at right back.

The agent is reported to have been in talks with the Deportivo President Augusto Cesar Lendoiro in La Coruna yesterday about the move.

And the good news so far is that Newcastle United are the only club who have so far made an offer for the player.

Lombilla told AS:

“The only offer that I received is from Newcastle, which I communicated (to Deportivo),”

Certainly, it seems that the Spanish press believe that Coloccini is all ready to leave Deportivo, and he has been left out of the trip to Venezuela for his club’s pre-season camp.

This reminds us a little of the potential deal with Luka Modric (just got a pain in my shoulder), and once bitten twice shy.

We even wish his agent hadn’t said anything until the deal was formally completed, since it will only let other potentially interested clubs in, which of course is what his agent wants.   Oh well.    🙁

So the club will need to move very quickly before other clubs come in – but this sounds like excellent news so far.

We’ll put up a poll on whether our readers think Coloccini would be a good buy at around £8M, and while your in our poll corner, let us know your views on our other polls, if you haven’t already done so.

The Newcastle club have been interested in the Argentine since January of last year, when then manager Glenn Roeder registered an interest – and we’ve liked what we’ve seen, so let’s hope we can get him – quickly.

Comments welcome.

Jonas and Guthrie were done on the quiet. If we have have put an offer in, his agent has just ensured we get outbid/not chosen by the player. I’m getting sick of this chit !!!!!

Hopefully we will have him signed soon. Now all we have to do is wait for Portsmouth and Spurs to put in rival bids. while our recruitment team fiddle and fart on the phone.

I HATE to say it, but it is probably just away to push his price up and sell him to someone else.

BUT if it is true GREAT!

His agent coming out and saying we have made a bid has just ensured that all interested teams will contact him. This will end with a bidding war before a team in europe signs him. Jonas’s agent didnt speak to the media because the player obviously wanted to come. I dont feel this bloke has any interest in playing for newcastle.

I’ve said it before; agents should not be allowed to discuss potential deals with the press. They are using clubs’ names to up the price of their clients and, therefore, their commission, and ruining a lot of clubs’ chances of signing decent footballers by alerting the other clubs that might be interested.

There should be a Fifa ruling on this. The transfer market is difficult at best for clubs outside the top four.

In July 2008, contact was made between Colocini’s club La Coruna and Newcastle United of the EPL. Deportivo accepted a bit of €13M late on July 27th and Colocini is expected to finalise terms with Newcastle on July 29th. Colocini’s agent Marcelo Lombilla said the “Fabricio will join up with Newcastle on Tuesday and he is very happy about this”. On 28th of July Galician TV station “crtvg” reported that a fee of 15 million euros has been agreed between English side – Newcastle United and Deportivo La Curna for the services of Coloccini

If its in the papers now i tend to think deals wont go through. However he would be a good signing but maybe a little overpriced. However if we can swap Duff for Warnock, who i imagine would be on considerably less wages than Damien, then this would address the balance.
Coloccini and Warnock would see us sufficiently covered in defence for the coming season with hopefully a central midfielder still to arrive.

Wikipedia isn’t a reliable source. Anybody can update it.

Wait to read it on the official site, otherwise there’s no confirmation that we’ve even made a bid.

At the moment it looks like media trash and agent talk.

Couldn’t agree more with Davies about secrecy by agents but cannot see how it could be operable. So easy to “let it be known” to other parties.
I firmly believe NUFC dither about too much. Other clubs just seem to get the deal done and dusted without any problem. The last time KK was here players just seemed to arrive and I used to”just love it ” when he used to say “watch this space” and a new signing took place.

yeah not much in the uk press, maybe just maybe. To me it’s either already sorted or we got no chance, after the signings of Jonas and Guthrie I feel that we’ll know when it’s been sealed and not before, apart from foreign sites like the ones that have been posted.

would love it if we got collocini but im not getting my hopes up just yet !

Taylor and Collocini at the back maybe? faye holding midfielder with guthrie given the license to get forward? sounds alright to me !

Newcastle can’t win on the secrecy issue. If we don’t hear anything from the club regarding official bids and only hear transfer news from the media many fans start panicking and accusing the club of not communicating and lacking ambition.

On the other hand if we make an official bid and let the world know we are bidding for players we have a go at the board for announcing our targets and alerting other clubs.

    I’m just enjoying the ride!

Keep the faith, KK won’t sit back and let this club fail!

Latest on the warnock story is that we have supposedly offered duff. thats from a source that has been reliable in the past but not entirely sure given KK’s recent comments about duff and his performance the other day.
