Newcastle To Offer Duff For Warnock – We’re Not That Daft

There’s a little bit of news today we just don’t believe one little bit.

Damien Duff – he’s going nowhere next season

Newcastle United’s chances of signing Blackburn’s Stephen Warnock have been reported to have increased – with the Tyneside club said to be willing to include Irish International Damien Duff in any deal.

But after Damien’s superb performance last Saturday at Hartlepool, with 3 excellently taken goals, and Kevin Keegan’s glowing words of praise for his Irish International last weekend, and the fact that Duff has also lost a lot of weight in the summer, and looks just great – there’s no way Newcastle would let Duff leave the club this summer.

Did we make that clear enough?

The Daily Telegraph is reporting this news today, and we just don’t believe it has any truth in it at all.

Newcastle recently had a £2M offer for Stephen Warnock turned down by Blackburn Rovers, and rumors have it that we have since increased our offer by a further £1M.

Duff moved from Blackburn in July, 2003, when the club received an amazing £17M offer from Chelsea, in the early days of the Roman Abramovich era.

Keegan has also recently spoken about wanting to keep all the players he currently has at the club, and has said swap deals make no sense to him, because we don’t add a player to the squad with those types of deals.

While the Daily Telegraph is usually very fair and decent in their reporting, we have to think they are just way off on this one.

Comments welcome.

I disagree. I think Warnock will be a good signing, the first solid left back we would have for years. I think Doncaster shows we can’t go into te season with Enrique as our sole left back!

As for Duff, he spends too long on the treatment table, and apart from Hartlepool, he has never really performed. Although i think we should be able to get abit of money out of it as well.

Ed Duff is a total wasted of space – end of.
if you can see that with Smith and Barton, why one earth can’t you accept that Duff is a serious drain on resources and any deal or swap that gets him away from SJP has to be a good thing.
Players don’t get better at 29/30.

I think this could happen. If it does we will have to keep Nzogbia. At least with Duff gone (assuming it happens) Charlie will play in his favoured position regularly. Still a bit concerning that we have to sell to buy. We should be able to afford £4 – £5 million without selling first. I think it’s just to get another high wage earner off the books.

I really hope this story is untrue. For the first time since he’s been here we might actualy see the best off him this year..It would be a complete mistake to let him leave now.

Duff on he’s day is one off the best wingers in the prem

Get Rid. One decent performance in a friendly against a League One side does not make up for two years of indifference. I agree with Terry Ed you shouldnt be so fickle! IMO this would be a great deal for the club.

A fading star swapped for a very dependable full back in a position we need. Its a no brainer as far as im concerned.
Warnock was far superior to the likes of Shorey last season and on my list of signings he would be 3rd choice behind Wayne Bridge and that Liverpool left back reserve whose name i keep forgetting.

dun mind Duff go but not without any decent replacement – a young quick skilful left-sided winger – and Warnock certainly not in that bracket and in my eyes he’s worth half of Duff’s market price at best. if we r that desperate for a LB why not just offer 3m for Shorey?

Seems a good deal to me.

Duff aint worth more than 4m

and Warnock about the same, plus he is younger.

    So seems good!

Getting rid of Duff is the sensible thing to do, £70k per week for someone who isn’t as good as the younger N’Zogbia.

Swap him and spend the money that would have gone on a replacement towards a first choice winger.

if duff goes we will need another winger, although we have millner, zog, jonas i think one more would be bad one that could score goals.. JOSE GUARDADO from deportivo would be my number 1 choice, cracking left foot and a decent supplier 22/23 yrs and full mexican international..

i think its a goer cos we have cover of sorts. we have spiderman on the right, zogs on the left and milner who can play across the entire mid field. we have to be careful though as it will only take two injuries to our anorexic squad and we will be stuffed. our club are treading on the wrong side of careful i think. we are just so thin on the ground that it scares me. kk has already said that top 8 would be fantastic for us, he knows we are in for a rough ride this season with what we have. its not the quality we have, its the bloody numbers. i can see smith getting used alot this season, really.

I’ve never championed the “get rid of Duff” cause. I think on his day he’s a quality player.

He, like Owen, has been very unlucky with injury. I know that a fair few people posting on this blog were saying the same of Owen until he recovered his form toward the end of last season.

Whilst I appreciate that we can’t wait forever for somebody to recapture their form, I do think Duff deserves the opportunity to do so. If he goes back to being a dissapointment, we can move him on in January.

I’m well aware that his recent achievements have been made against significantly lesser opposition, but who else scored 3 against Hartlepool? Martins? Ameobi? Any of the strikers that played? No.

KK has faith in him, and I hope that having a pre-season and being injury free will be the start of a recovery in form.

Before you accuse Ed of being fickle, remember how many of you were keen to shift Owen before he recovered his form last season. I bet you wouldn’t trade him now, would you?

Davies – agree with you. Duff is a quality player, and should not be sold, we need compition on the left as in any other position.
Warnock should be bought to compete with Erique, and whoever shows the better form plays (as for all positions).

Pre season is exactly that – ‘pre season’…. a time to build up fitness for the start of the season. Who cares if we were beaten by Doncaster & some players played badly, or even win a game (juve last season) these games mean nothing more than building fitness.

Duff is terrible, he scored against hartlepool in a pre season friendly, big deal. he was terrible against Doncaster and has always had a seriously suspect attitude. Duff has lost the one thing he had at Blackburn and Chelsea; pace. Jose Mourinho was laughing when he gor £5 million for that waster. Whereas warnock is versitile, hard working and a good defender.

I think this deal makes sense, Duff is coming to the end of his career and he’s not had much luck with us so might as well move on and I’d think Warnock would prob start in the left back spot for us (a bigger club than Blackburn) so it’s win win for all concerned imo!

Look, proof positive that the papers of full of bollox.

    Taken from the BBC Rumors page;

“Real Madrid will this week make a £2m bid for Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher. (The Sun)”

Now why one earth would one of the biggest clubs in football want to sign a Fletcher from Hibs? Even Sunderland wouldn’t be interested in him and they are hoovering up all of the crap that’s currently available.
    Stop believing the papers.

ed- funny how you been sayin all summer that you expect us to get rid of the likes of shola, smith and DUFF, yet after a good game in a friendly against hartlepool all of sudden therws no chance we shud let duff go, fickle or wat. id rather have warnock than duff anwyay, warnock can cover both left back and left wing if he was needed, both players worth about 4mil imo and warnock is younger and more hungry for the game

We need players that is for sure. But why do we have to make swap deals. Again we don’t know how much truth in this story is, but our squad is too thin and swapping players just makes that we get new faces but that our squad remains extremely thin. Is this a solution?? NO!!!!

To be honnest I did not follow Warnock his play last season so I don’t know what he is worth. Most of you seem very positive on him, so I would like him to come, cause Enrique as only LB will get us into difficulties.

If he would cost £5m and he really is good then I think he is worth that money. If MA does not want to give £5m to KK to get a player with EPL experience (very important for KK) then why on Earth did he buy this club? To clear our debts and that is it. I can’t believe that.

On the other side Duff is a player who had lots of annoying injuries. I know he never reached his level at NUFC, but I say give him another season to prove that he still can be very important. I say if he plays ‘fully fit’ then the fans at St James will love him. So keep Duff:
    1. good player if his injuries are over
    2. are squad is just too thin ATM
