Brazilian Luisao Being Monitored By Newcastle – Maybe

Portsmouth and Newcastle are both reported to be monitoring Luisao’s situation at Portuguese powerhouse, Benfica.

Luisao – capped 24 times for Brazil

The Brazil international has been capped 24 times by the 5 times World Champions, and he has been at Benfica since 2003, playing over 90 games for them.

The 6’4″ defender is a powerful player, and it seems he may want to leave the Portuguese giants this summer.

He said today:

“I need to find new impetus in my career.”

“I am a professional and will give my maximum for Benfica while I remain here.”

Luisao then said he would consider all offers, but we’re not sure he’s exactly on Newcastle’s radar screen right now.

We expect Fabricio Coloccini and Sebastien Bassong to join the club by the end of the week, and we’re not sure Kevin will need another center-back, if we can those two in.

After all, we still have Steven Taylor, Abdoulaye Faye, Claudio Cacapa and young David Edgar, who can also play central defense, so we should be fine there – if we can get those two in.

On the other hand, Luisao may be one to go after, if there are any hiccups with these two transfer targets.

Comments welcome.

No need if Coloccini is coming.

Have metioned Luisao a fair bit on here. He is solid but fairly laboured and clumbsy (gives away silly fouls).

Benfica captain, 6 4″ and 24 caps for the world champions, he’s head and shoulder above taylor and cacapa in terms of strength, composure and a team leader. He would be a great signing

For CB I think we should bring in Coloccini. Even Bassong will not be necessary, because we will have Coloccini as our star CB and Faye and Taylor fighting for the other spot (Faye prob. edging at the start of the season. I am not one of the people that thinks Taylor is absolutely crap as I think that’s a bit sensationalist, but Faye was better than him last season). We then have Edgar as 4th choice, and Cacapa can cover in extreme cases, as well as providing a mentor-role for the young defenders.

If we fail in our bid for Coloccini, we should consider Luisao, but let’s just hope we get Coloccini, and then bring in a LB.

I think Luisao is one of the most over-rated CB in top-flight football. I have seen him make some horrid performances. I think this is a rubbish story. One of my best mates played in the Sporting Lisbon youth team, and knows his Portuguese football and he agrees the guy is over-rated. He is no better than Cacapa, who i would let go anyway. My four CB would be Taylor, Coloccini, Faye, and Bassong. We need another LB and CM as I have said before

The Second Coming – aye i agree we need another. We should defo get Torosidis – we were weakly linked with him but nothing has come of it. He looks a good player

dont want him and dont care about him. Just want to see collocini joins newcastle going round on the bottom of sky sports news. The only thing that would make me turn from colloocini is if we got cuellar and rat at the same time.

As well as CB I think we need cover at LB more than RB as enrique is too error prone, his fault for the goal on saturday and he was error prone last season as well.

Any thoughts on a posible candidate?

i think we should go for nicky shorey and warnock. i dont rate enrique too highly, feel he lacks pace. i also feel we should go for eidur gudjohnson or dean ashton because viduka will not be fit for a full season and carroll isn’t ready yet..

No chance. Why? Because Portsmouth are interested. If not then it will be Villa, Wigan, or guess who? Spurs. Rather have Coloccini and Bassong.

Looks like the lazy b*rstewards Spurts have picked up on colloocini, as it say they are interested in getting him…. why can’t they scout their own fecking players instead of nicking all the one’s we are going for, it’s doin my fecking head in, we go after a player, their club say they want more money so the feckin lazy b*rsteward Spurts pay them what they want & we lose fecking out again, same as what happened with Modric…. feckin one shot wonder Spurts!!!!

I have expalined this to you before Fernando.
Only one year in the age, same amount of caps but Gutierrez plays for a better national team.

Peter crouch is younger than berbatov and plays for a better national team, is he a better player than berbatov? No! Stupid argument. Regardless of cost i would rather have the better player and bentley(and lennon) is better than jonas.

Alright Fernando mate? Damn that slap in the face from Robbie Keane must be stinging, come to take it out on us? Get ready for Berba’s departure mate, thats gonna be the icing on the cake.

RE Joey Barton, good. I know how alot of you feel about him lads, and yes, he did some daft things, but what I saw from him under KK towards the end of last season was very promising and I think he will be a key member of the squad this season. Nobody is perfect, everyone makes mistakes. The lad has talent and is the closest to a creative mid we have. Welcome back Joey, knuckle down and show us you’ve learned from your mistakes.

Haha. Such a short notice by the club on Barton. Whilst it is kinda frustrating, I do like the professionalism that is taking place at St. James’ at the moment. No need to say any more than that, and feed into the bollocks media stuff.

I said I wouldn’t post anymore – but I have to ask 9 Shearer, where are you getting this from? There is nothing in spanish nor english media that suggests that Spurs have done anything more than the enquiry that Coloccini’s agent mentioned 2 days ago

    Alreet Nando.

What the hell are Spurs going to do without Keano and Berba next season. Don’t tell me your counting on Darren Bent?!?!

Regarding Luisao, I’d rather have Coloccini, but if we can’t get him, Luisao would be a decent enough alternative. Not as good, but good enough.

Haha normski. Have you got any more tales of when you were in newcastles firm. I always love a bit of jackanory. Keane was very good business in my eyes especially when you see who is going to replace him. Berba hasnt gone , but if he does 30 mill will soften the blow.

Tomtoon i take it you have lost the argument after your stroppy last comment.
