Portsmouth and Newcastle are both reported to be monitoring Luisao’s situation at Portuguese powerhouse, Benfica.
Luisao – capped 24 times for Brazil
The Brazil international has been capped 24 times by the 5 times World Champions, and he has been at Benfica since 2003, playing over 90 games for them.
The 6’4″ defender is a powerful player, and it seems he may want to leave the Portuguese giants this summer.
He said today:
“I need to find new impetus in my career.”
“I am a professional and will give my maximum for Benfica while I remain here.”
Luisao then said he would consider all offers, but we’re not sure he’s exactly on Newcastle’s radar screen right now.
We expect Fabricio Coloccini and Sebastien Bassong to join the club by the end of the week, and we’re not sure Kevin will need another center-back, if we can those two in.
After all, we still have Steven Taylor, Abdoulaye Faye, Claudio Cacapa and young David Edgar, who can also play central defense, so we should be fine there – if we can get those two in.
On the other hand, Luisao may be one to go after, if there are any hiccups with these two transfer targets.

Comment #128Glad to see Bassong has signed. Looked pretty good at Doncaster. Just hope he gets the ’46’ shirt. He has a right to it now.

Comment #129My word, it’s ‘defence’ not ‘defense’, learn some primary school spelling and you may gain some credibility.
