Is Keegan Still Interested In Aaron Lennon?

The News Of The World is reporting that Kevin Keegan is still interested in Aaron Lennon.

aaron-lennon-76.jpg

Aaron Lennon – could we get him for £6M?

Since it’s ther NOTW this could well be an old story regurgitated, but we still think Lennon would be a great player for Newcastle, if we can get him.

However, if Duff and N’Zogbia are to stay at Newcastle, which now seems likely, we’ll have a number of wide men in the squad, such as Duff, Milner, N’Zogbia, Gutierrez and Geremi to name just five.

Lennon could provide some speed down either wing however, although the  £6M price tag that is quoted, seems a little low.

The NOTW say that Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan is on the verge of offering £6M for Aaron however, and it wouldn’t surprise us too much if he brings in  a couple more midfield players before the end of August.

And it’s that mystical and mysterious source close to Kevin that told The News of the World:

“Keegan is convinced he can capture Aaron Lennon and revitalise his career,”

“He is lightning fast with great skill and likes to bomb forward down the flanks.”

“That is the sort of player that Kevin Keegan loves and the boss is sure that he can get the very best out of Lennon again.”

Aaron Lennon would be a good deal at £6M, but we think it will take more than that to bring the lad to Tyneside.

However, it would be good if we can get him into the squad, that’s for sure.

What do you think?

I think that would be an interesting option, quite a good player in my humble opinion!

I imagine he would be available if Tottenham push through the Bentley deal, especially with Dos Santos and Modric there too! However, if we did get him, I imagine one of the Zog, Duff and Milner would be on the way out, as Jonas and Lennon would probably nail the flank positions down, at least in the beginning!

This would only be the case if Keegan is indeed convinced that Milner’s future in the game is in the center of the park, or if N’Zogbia is southward bound. One could perceive of a straight swap between Zoggy and Lennon.

In that case, I would prefer to keep Zoggy (if he is comitted). Lennon is a good player though, quick and skillful and will develop into a great winger. Crossing isn’t fantastic though, but we do need a bit more pace in the side.

Duff out, Warnock in, Lennon in – totally unsubtantiated, just joining the dots and the picture makes sense. Lennon is alright, still a lot to prove.

sheareralan- u wake up, ther is a good chance tht not all of our current wingers will be here, villa may bid for milner if barry goes, we may offer duff for warnock, and nzogbia may get his move to london. so then we wud need another winger

its a good signing. we can use our long ball tactics affectively as he got a very powerful speed. same like martins. and no doubt if we get him, our attacking power will increase. hopefully we get coloccini, warnock, 1 striker like mario gomez and some other else.

Think this is an old one Ed… Although, i think he would do good under Keegan, our wings are now sorted, and there is absolutely no need for any more.
KK is atm focusing on the DEF, right and left first and foremost.
News of swap deals and wingers are absolutely nonsense..
We still need RB, LB, ATM and Striker, and we’re good.

If Keegan is renewing his interest in Aaron Lennon, I think it could mean that the Gutierrez transfer is about the fall through. Without Gutierrez’s playing regristration, he is not our player, 5 year contract or not, and I’ve got an ominous feeling that we’ll never actually see him in a black and white shirt. So if Keegan is looking again at Aaron Lennon, this could be the reason why.

Geordie Nick – to be honest I’d scratch a defensive midfielder from that list for this season. Don’t think it’s necessary. Butt and Guthrie should be ok. Faye can do a job there and dare I say (being as big a critic as the most critical of them) even Geremi could do a job provided he’s kept off the set pieces. All agreed we need an attacking midfielder I guess? No idea who that will be from realistic, known targets. And a centre forward in my eyes. Again no idea at this point. This is on the condition Warnock, Bassong and Coloccini will arrive. And whether Duff goes and Lennon comes or not. Lots of ifs and buts I know but the picture is becoming clearer. Such a fuss has been made of Warnock I really think we’ll pursue him. Bassong and Coloccini are hopefully at the point where it’s almost a formality. That would leave your other two positions. Time to speculate again.

The Express have a massive article claiming we are interested in Michael Kightly from Wolves for £4M. Dont know much about him but he’s described as a tough tackling winger, so I’d be surprised if we did go for him seeing as we are well off in that department. However they say we have been tracking him during Wolves pre-season friendlies so you never know, and at 22 he’s the age we seem to be targeting.

Shearer4pm are you joking Petit is toilet. He is no better than Butt, and is 31. Thats why he has been free all summer and the only team interested are f-in Cologne wot a dream move for him. As for Lennon I remember those quotes from when we were linked at the start of the summer, its rubbish that the NOTW have re-wrote because there rubbish staff couldnt get the imagination to think up some more tripe. Cant believe Van der Vaart is going to Real Madrid for £7.8m mind you he probably will never play there wot a waste of talent.

the way i see it if he signs we dont have to loose a winger

    duff can play lm rm
milner can play lm cm rm
jonas can play lm cm rm am st
    nzogbia cana play lm cm

guthrie is prodominantly a cm but can cover the wings
    barton cm
    butt cm
    geremi cm

so we can use milner and jonas as attacking cm’s therefore another winger would be fine

Ross G – he might not have played there consistently but I’m pretty sure I heard it from the horse’s mouth in his interview that Keegan intends to play him there at some point. I’ve heard him described as box-to-box but from what I’ve seen he’s got the hallmarks of a defensive midfielder. Neat, tidy etc. He might not be a typical DM in the style of Makele but neither does he look like the sort of bloke who’s going to run beyond the forwards. I’d say he’s combative and industrious rather than creative so he’d fit in ok for cover. I still think Butt will play in the more defensively recognised midfield role for the best part of next season anyway to be honest.

DM isn’t a priority with Butt and Faye also able to play there. If Coloccini signs then he’s an option as well, but I’d also consider playing Edgar there too.

Edgar has played there for the reserves on a few occasions, he’s not too bad defensively and his lack of physical strength wouldn’t be such a problem.

    It’s unneccessary!

    We don’t need another winger!

We need a CB, RB/LB cover (hopefully have those sorted with Bassong and Colloncini) an AM and a big striker…

I know we have a small squad, and filling it out with bargains is fine, but I just don’t want us to blow our transfer/wage budget on possitions that are already filled!

Also – does anyone know if there is any truth to Fulham’s 15m bid for Mario Gomez? If this is the case I think we need to try and do a bit of bullying! I remember just before the Euro’s a few people mentioned his name as a “God, it’ll never happen, but I wish…” … He’s got all the attributes we need, and if he’d have had a great Euro O8 we’d be discussing which of the top 4 is going to snap him up for 20m+!

broon ale, Mallorca are holding on to Gutierrez’s playing regristration, which is legally theirs for another two years by all accounts. As far as I can tell they are under no obligation to hand it over to us and without it he can’t ever play for us.
