The Newcastle Journal is reporting today that Morocco international left-back Badr El-Kaddouri has claimed Aston Villa and Newcastle are both after him.

Badr El-Kaddouri - currently at Dynamo Kiev
This may be a case of the player trying to play his own case up, with the player currently at Ukranian club, Dynamo Kiev, which is Andriy Shevchenko’s first club.
Aston Villa’s left-back Wilfred Bouma is facing several months out injured, after the Dutchman suffered a terrible dislocated ankle in Saturday’s Intertoto Cup win over Odense.
And Sky Sports is reporting that Martin O’Neill has been linked with a move for El-Kaddouri, as Bouma’s short term replacement.
The 27-year-old has already told Sky Sports there is in fact interest from both Villa and Newcastle United:
“There have been enquiries from Aston Villa since last year, however since Saturday, Aston Villa want me,”
“They are an ambitious club, my agent is looking into it.”
“He told me Newcastle have made enquiries about me and they are also willing to sign me.”
El-Kaddouri played against Manchester United in last season’s UEFA Champions League, and was asked whether he had a preference for a move to Villa Park or St James’ Park, but the player was wisely non-committal:
“I am not sure, I am not answering those questions.”
“What I know is there are contacts with the two teams and the press will know my destination very soon.”
Badr El Kaddouri was born in January, 1981 and is a current member of the Moroccan National football side, and is currently at Dynamo Kyiv.
El Kaddouri was part of the Moroccan 2004 Olympic football team, who exited in the first round, finishing third in group D, behind group winners Iraq and runners-up Costa Rica.
Comments welcome.

Solid squad player, not spectacular. Would provide adequate cover for Enrique without setting the PL alight.
2 Black and White Blood // Jul 30, 2008 at 14:32
No no no no nooooooooo…..
This is out of hand - we need quality, he’s no better then what we have!
I’m really worried, all my post have always been pro MA, and they still will be, as I accept we were in so much debt under FFS - but few signings doesn’t sit well for a productive season…!
I’m already thinking about the drop, if the likes of Sunderland, Stoke, WBA and Fulham are all spending more on players, not only that, they have bigger squads, so when there are injuries they have cover - do we?
3 TTOON // Jul 30, 2008 at 14:33
What I don’t understand is why people actually rate Enrique, one of the most mistake prone players in the league, he couldn’t even handle doncaster.
Why are we not buying anyone good - Coloccini has to come and a creative mid. Look at Spurs Dos Santos - 4.8m, Modric who we missed out on at the last minute, its getting ridiculous. Those two players are better than are whole team.

What on earth is going on? Nicky Shorey has been available all summer. Eng international, quality player, good age, & he’s got 1 yr left on his contract. Why don’t we just buy him???? & we should sign Aaron Lennon & Mario Gomez as well.

It’ll all come to a head in coming days and weeks. Nice one that so far we have acquired 3 good players and only spent very little though, whereas other teams are splashing out big amounts of wonga! It’s such a contrast to the posts of a few weeks ago that went something like, “this is who we should get imo..
VELOSO
VDV
GOMIS
ARDA
Etc etc.
If we splash out on just one hig signing that’ll be great (and enough) for me. Or even all astute bargains!!

We are going to be s@it this season..I think the intent is clear that under ashley we are really lacking any ambition or drive to fill the team with quality, strength and depth.
I am pro toon and want the best as we all do but i can gtee if this continues the backlash on Ashley will be immense and he won’t be wearing his Alan Smith top in the stands (alan smith top even that worries me),the backlash already began in the last match and reports of unrest at the current set up are starting to show now..come on mike this aint a fkin game or toy to brag about at the casino , either you want to push us forward or you get out before you are forced out as this club can’t afford to go backwards.
My patience in this current set up is stretched and making me angry.
17 HeronMag // Jul 30, 2008 at 15:00
I agree with the idea of bringing Nicky Shorey to the club. A solid left back (arguably better than Enrique) who would give another attacking angle up the left side.

22 GM // Jul 30, 2008 at 15:09
TTOON - agree with the comment regarding enrique - dont rate him at all he was at fault a lot last season thats why zog ended up there as he was less error prone, says a lot that a winger is better than a £6 mil + full back.

24 GM // Jul 30, 2008 at 15:15
N’zogbia is a Midfield player not a FB but he still played prob the same if not more games than enrique, my point was that the management fat sam or kk obvioulsy didnt rate him as he makes too many mistakes, he was shown up again at the weekend, at fault for conceding a goal against lower rate opposition.

29 GM // Jul 30, 2008 at 15:23
Harrier - dont count the friendly then, look at the mistakes he made last year, out of position, bombing forward loosing the ball, passing to the opposition etc etc
Lets agree to disagree - i think he is crap and not worth anywhere near what we paid for him, at best he should be back up to someone else, who I have no clue and the way things are going we will prob start with Zog again at LB as we seem unable to sign anyone half decent.

Before everyone has a go at me, I realise he’s made billions from being a shrewd, but conmen sense tells you if we don’t improve on what we have here, we will not be able to compete this season with most teams - That will result in us deteriorate even further!

Some of you lot must be on another planet with your expectations. Fair enough we are not spending big money at the moment as other clubs have done but I for one am very pleased with that, finally our club is being run like a proper business.
Under FFS the club was so deeply in debt that with current form on the pitch being so bad we were seriously in danger of going the way of Leeds. MA will invest in players but won’t over pay like we have been doing for years, MA I applaud you.
As for these negative comments about Enrique, for gods sake give the lad a chance, he’s made a couple of mistakes but for the most part I think he’s been reasonable. He is a youngster who has had just one season in a new league, an awful lot of foreigners come over and take a while to adapt. Alot of fans seem to forget just how young alot of our players are!
Also, I’d be willing to bet that the people on here slagging off our young players are probably the same ones who boo and ruin the atmosphere at SJP. Get behind the lads and support the whole club!

Jesus the Ashley out brigade back with a bang! We’re about to sign Coloccini - not a peep, it looks like it might go thru - Ashley out!
Seriously theres a month left to sign players (cue comments “they need time to get fit they need to gel” etc etc. - players do pre season at the clubs they leave and anyone whos kicked a ball before knows it takes a maximum of two weeks to know whether u’ll ever be on the same page as a teammate) and anyway nobody below us has signed anyone who we need to be afraid of (Diouf is about our level no better AJ is decent but needs a team around him)
Leave MA alone - if u’d just put ur hand in ur pocket to the tune of 280m getting us out of debt i’d like to see you hoyin the money around like it grew on leazes park. The fact is we’re replacing the crap with better- they may not be world beaters, we probably wont get into europe - be thankful we still have a club to talk about!

Liverpool and Aston Villa have finally agreed a fee for the transfer of Gareth Barry, according to the website of the Daily Mail.
It is reported the clubs have settled on a price of £17.5million plus Reds full-back Steve Finnan moving to Villa Park.
According to the Mail, although Liverpool do need to sell to buy Barry, they have offers on the table for both Jermaine Pennant and Yossi Benayoun while they are hopeful of selling Andriy Voronin, Alvaro Arbeloa and Xabi Alonso.
- I hope we are after Yossi Benayoun, he is a great player and can play all over the midfield.

51 CraigThaiToon // Jul 30, 2008 at 15:53
I see people who are worried because its not going like it was under Shepherd and yes i can understand to a point. However Ashley is new to the game and has fresh ideas a lot of which make a lot of sense to me.
In my opinion he’s looked at the whole Webster craic and thought “right no1’s cottoned on to this properly yet we can do alright here” (hence gutierrez and the link with Coloccini) and in fairness thats not the most ambitious policy but he’s also complimenting that with a fair bit youth (Bassong, guthrie etc.) and you can see where he’s coming from.
I agree we’ll do well to challenge for Europe but we need to give it another year or to before thats realistic. As sad as it is the days of signing Ginola, Ferdinand and Barton in a week are long long long gone and the person to blame for that is certainly not Mike Ashley.
The way its been run now however u neva no they might be not long round the corner.
As someone so brilliantly said above Keep The Faith and enjoy the ride!

You pay money to be entertained - well ashley and keegan are going about that now. Season hasn’t even started - are high priced signings the only thing that entertains you? Wait till you see what they have on the pitch instead of judging them on paper. The point is entertainment right? So why not see if its enteraining before judging

I am one of the many that put my hand in my pocket for the next 3 years at SJP on the Gallowgate and i’ll be there week in week out whether we’re 2nd or 2nd bottom just like i have for as long as i remember - i can remember when times were a lot harder than this. (Fog over the pitch, Gullit in charge, Shearer on Bench, club going only going one way)
Im sure MA is doing the best he can with the money he has, regardless of his motives - after all if we do go down then he’s going to have lost a SERIOUS amount of money!
55 Nobby's Dad // Jul 30, 2008 at 16:03
HPS…….Don’t you see how ridiculous it is for you to question Ashley’s commitment when you put in £500 a season and he’s put in £90 million to cancel the debt.
Yes he owns the club, but it was up for sale and anyone was free to buy it …you, me, we all had our chance. Iwanted rid of FFS more than anything and Ashley did it, so he’s alright by me. After clearing the debt as far as I’m concerned he’s entitled to spend carefully this season.
4 weeks to go in the transfer market…..unlike many on this board I have faith and even if we sign no one I’ve commited to my 3 season tickets for the next 3 years. I’d support 11 black and white donkeys…….we are a great club, great manager, some great players, fantastic crowd, fantastic stadium and no debt. Please see some positives - glass half full, not half empty!!

To be honest I just want coloccini, Left back someone who is solid and can teach enrique eg, warnock or shorey somone who is just solid nothing ridiculously amazing but someone who is just going to tighten up our defence.
Then my next concern if we sign Bassong Coloccini and Warnock or Shorey is midfield - we dont need any wingers but a creative mid someone who is going to control the game with great foot work and creative vision to feed wingers and strike force.
The problem is that we won’t want to spen more than 8-10mil and that isn’t enough we need one really good proven buy in that position.

I can’t understand the vicious attitudes of some fans towards Ashley.
Before Ashley we were obviously run by a bunch of financial fools. We were over £150m in debt! That isn’t exactly a paltry sum.
MA has come in and tightened up the purse strings - was that ever a surprise?
However, when the right players have come along like Woodgate, Modric or Coloccini MA has offered very respectable fees.
Just because he isn’t pandering to Depor like FS doesn’t mean he’s not doing his job right - in fact he’s doing the opposite! Ensuring this club is successful and gets value for money in the market.
68 harrier // Jul 30, 2008 at 16:21
No more with the spurs please. Spurs are selling proven premier league strikers to buy…an unproven premier league striker who offers the same as what they had at exactly the same price. Only difference is Arshavin is not tested in the league and Robbie Keane is. It is one thing to ADD quality to your squad like we would have - but they are REPLACING quality with a very similar but unproven player.
69 Danish_Magpie // Jul 30, 2008 at 16:21
I think it is important that when we sign a LB, it is not cover for Enrique, but that Enrique will be cover for him. I don’t think Enrique is quite ready yet, to be a first-choice LB for a side that’s chasing Europe. I don’t doubt that he is a decent prospect, but I am not yet comfortable with him as our regular LB.
Bring in a quality LB! Warnock or Shorey are decent (realistic) shouts.

According to the Setanta report, Deportivo told Collocini’s Agent the selling price three years ago! No wonder the price has now changed.
The whole situation regarding the signing of the Argentinian is ludicrous. With our so called professional recruitment team, why did we not deal with Deport direct-before making a bid it is fundamentally necessary to get the price right. The role of the Agent is very suspect in all this as he now suggests that we walk away from the deal- the idea that the player should exercise the Webster ruling seems to have been shelved. As with the Aimer saga, I think we are being used to get the price for Collocini right up though in this case it has not worked as yet. Don’t be surprised to see if somebody else comes in to snatch him away at the right price of course. In any event, Collocini will not be coming to St.James Park and neither will Warnock-our so called recruitment team are being out thought and out classed in the buying game. MA needs to come up with the extra million now if we want to add a class act to the team afterwhich get rid of Wise @ Co. leave Kevin to do it properly. I am frankly very depressed by what is happening at the moment and fear for the future.

Spurs have indeed, for a few seasons now, been bringing in quality players, ie: Berbatov, Woodgate, Bale, Hutton, Dos Santos, Modric, and whoever they bring in as strikers now.
They have spent a massive amount of money, while still only managing to finish 11th. If they had not won the Mickey Mouse cup their season would have been just as disappoint as ours, although they invest much more heavily. Let us see if this new Football Manager-like team they have put together can really sustain a run of form in the Prem.
As for us, we have to focus inwards and make sure we do the right things at our football club. So far, I believe we have gotten extremely good value for money. I would love big signings, but to be honest, before this new policy was started, I was crying out for some reason and stabillity at the club, and that’s what they are giving us. We are in it for the long-haul, and that is much less risky and much healthier down the line. Keep the faith lads and let’s hope Keegan brings in a bit of quality before the season gets underway.
75 Shearer#1 // Jul 30, 2008 at 16:28
Got no chance of signing Hunterlaar. Real Madrid, Man u & Arsenal want him. He’s pure class, closest player I’ve seen to a young Shearer. What about Fred from Lyon or Pavlyuchenko as a replacement for Viduka?
76 WIGAZ // Jul 30, 2008 at 16:30
Adam i hope your right mate coz if not this will have been a piss poor transfer window fo us like! we’re doing nothing & out of most teams we need to invest big time as our squad is tiny! lets just hope that we get Warnock/Shorey Collochini, & a WOW signing like Berbatov or Huntaleer! that’s after all what we deserve after putting up with all this “agreed terms, oh no wait, signed for spurs” crap!!!!! make us happy MA or roll your Fat ass out o here!!!!

84 macakane // Jul 30, 2008 at 17:04
Cmon, thank god we arent spending like SPurs do, this are not Graeme Souness era anymore.Spurs lost Robbie Keane, Berbatov is going out as well, soon. Gareth Bale? He`s injured all the time, not the best buy, and he was bought for about 12 million? Hutton, cant say he is much better than Chimbonda. Younes Kaboul another unfortunate 8-11 million buy. Darren Bent - club transfer record for bench warmer. They still strenghten team at the wrong positions, they have sloppy defense. Midfield physically weak and with no height. And they gamble with the new goalkeeper as well. Next season is going to be reality check for Ramos, this aint no La Liga.
85 GordonO // Jul 30, 2008 at 17:07
Adam you should not count on Huntelaar beeing sold for anything less then 25 mil. Since the new NUFC only pays less then 10 mil pr. player that is not going to happen.
The worst right now for me is not so much Spurs who are signing quality. It is the other clubs at the middle or bottom of the league who are signing good players because they are who we are going to be fighting against. Even the glue sniffing Mackems are signing better players then us…
86 Jon // Jul 30, 2008 at 17:07
I have one point re. the mackems….
Can anyone seriously say they would have wanted ANY of the players they have signed at our football club? Look at the individuals, Keane is assembling a team of mercenaries who will have absolutely no love, motivation or ambition for their club. As soon as the money runs out (which it will) they will all leave.
Our squad is thin at the moment but I would take our transfer policy over the mackems any day of the week.
87 natedawg // Jul 30, 2008 at 17:12
macakane 100 % agree and saved me writing it lol, they dont have a decent dm or even cm they only have amc which just wont work, add to that they only have woodgate who can defend i tip spurs for 8 this year , if they lucky , teams will learn how to beat them, my money is on a rough aggressive style, like everyone learnt to do against arsenal

98 Fraser 2k8 // Jul 30, 2008 at 17:37
If Milner does go ( he’ll be quite a loss) for roughly 9-10 million, i would easily buy Arda for that money. If so stick Arda left so he can help Enrique at LB.
99 ToonEskimo // Jul 30, 2008 at 17:37
Why would Villa flog Barry when Bouma’s foot was pointing the opposite way last weekend?
he’s the emergency left back isn’t he?
100 Michael // Jul 30, 2008 at 17:50
Tottenham have replaced us as the team who spends ridiculous amounts of money every year and pays high wages with limited on the field success.
Yes we aren’t spending very much but lots of other clubs are spending money rather poorly. Sunderland for instance only got those 3 tottenham players by paying around 6million each. Fulham paying upwards of 10 million for Johnson, although he could get 20 goals for them next season if they win 15 penalties.
We will make some more signings, they may not be the big names that some delusional fans were hoping for (Henry, VDV, Berbatov etc), but they will improve our squad and we will be top 8 next season.

Issiar Dia - pacey RW
Mathieu Coutadeur - defensive, box to box CM
Blaise Matuidi - deep lying play-maker
Yohan Cabaye - goal scoring AM
thoughts?

Just cos someone is french doesnt mean they gonna be great. Look a the French senior team in Euro 2008, most in the early 30’s and their legs have gone but picked ahead of these young uns. Lets get in some hungry ambitious players who want to play for the club. But lets face facts we need to lure them with the money so lets splash some cash

I think i have now given up on Ashley and i couldn’t believe that NUFC were advertising season tickets on the radio this morning. This shows how far the club has went back over the last few years i remember when there was a massive waiting list for season tickets. The current squad we have will struggle to finish even 12th next season. Ashley is starving our beloved club to death at the moment and he better have thick skin because next season he will feel the wrath of the geordie faithful. Colicinni looks like a lost cause, Modric saga was one big joke, Jonas, we have signed him only because we saw an opportunity to skin flint and even that is a farce, Guthrie, hmmm well we will wait and see. As much as i hate Spurs i must give them credit for showing ambition, a midfield of….Modric..Santos..Arshavin..Bentley, well that looks like a world class midfield to me. And i have just read a post saying they will pursue Colicinni after the signing of Bentley, what a kick in the teeth that would be for us toon fans. If Ashley does not get his house in order then he will need an armed guard to get him out of the city because there is no other place as passionate as Newcastle for their football and at the moment the most passionate fans are being robbed blind by a gambling pie munching idiot. Hang on YES he did clear our dept but at the end of the day is that going to win us a trophy….i think not.

Well Spurs can’t sign everyone…there is still a LOT of quality available especially with some of the big boys done shopping. Two names who would improve our squad exponentially. (U listening MA?)
Ibrahim Afellay
Ivan Rakitić
Both were supposed to be moving this window and neither have even been linked with anyone no my knowledge.
GET THE CHECKBOOK OUT!!!
as for defenders what about the names Deportivo were spouting as replacements for Collocini?

Some of you lot are idiots. Why in a million years would players such as VDV, Moutinho, Veloso, Arshavin come to our club?
There is no point paying stupid amounts of money for players when the only players worth this sort of money would not come to our club. Do you want some more Luque’s or Boumsongs?
