Are Tottenham Really After Coloccini?

Bad news today, in that there is a report  that Spurs are now interested in another of Newcastle’s transfer targets – Fabricio Coloccini.

Coloccini – deadlocked on Newcastle move?

The good news is that the report is in The Sun.

No other team has been in for the Deportivo player, according to Fabricio’s agent, Marcello Lombilla, but The Sun are reporting Newcastle are locked in a battle  with Tottenham, yet again,  over central defender Fabricio Coloccini.

SunSport understands both clubs have made bids for the Argentina center-half, but his agent Marcello Lombilla says there’s been but one bid, and that from Newcastle United.

But as we know, this wouldn’t be the first time The Sun has not let the facts interfere with one of their stories.

Newcastle are said to be offering better personal terms to the player, with a deal of around £35K a week, which has been reported at £50K/week in other papers, so obviously both figures are questionable.

Spurs are said have a slight edge only because boss Juande Ramos is a friend of Deportivo president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro. We knew Juande was friends with the Deportivo President and also Marcello Lombilla, Coloccini’s agent – so maybe that’s where this story originated.

But we don’t believe it, and as far as we know, no other club has moved in for the Argentine, who may seek Article 17 of the FIFA transfer regulations, to get his move to Tyneside completed.

If nothing happens before the end of the week – that’s exactly what we hope he will do.

Comments are welcome, but please keep them civil.

Thank you for pointing out this story is from the Sun Ed.

If his agent comes out and then declares a 2nd bid has been made then I’ll start worrying, but I don’t believe anything that rag prints.

don’t believe a word of it, the sun obviously had a spare column inch to fill so pulled the same old “spurs after same players as newcastle” story out their backsides again.

    Those pesky Spurs!

Speaking as a resident of Barcelona I must say that this player would be one I’d like as I’ve been mildly impressed, but at the prices quoted it’s not a signing for me.

    Let Spurs take him.

If it is even true that Spurs are after Coloccini I do wonder with a little jealousy how their recruitment team has the time to wrap up deals for Bentley, & possibly Arshavin, Pavlyuchenko & Coloccini while our three (recruitment) musketeers struggle to complete one.

I know I should be more patient and keep the faith but its beginning to get harder.

It feels like the worst transfer window ever but it is only made that by the internet and easily available news.
“News” nowadays in the press is so unreliable and we should take what is said with a pinch of salt.
Also why so much interest in Spurs, OK apparantly they keep going for the palyers we are linked with but it’s getting so boring.
    Anti MA comments
    Anti recruitment teams cooments
    Spurs comments

Getting so predictable can people not be positive about our club, afterall we have some of our main pre-season matches coming up and there’s very little talk of this.

I will support our team whatever happens and am sick and tired of people spitting their dummies out because they are so gullable to believe the tripe in the press.

I don’t know if Spurs or any other team are interested in Coloccini, but the longer this saga drags on, the more chance the others have of stealing him from under our noses.
Depor have no right to keep uping the price. Another thing, why did they let us talk to the player and agent and agree terms with them before we even agreed a fee.
Looking at it from our point of view we can’t give in to Depor’s demands otherwise it would make us look weak in the transfer market. Other team would do the same. I’m afraid we may loose out on Coloccini just to prove we’re not mugs. Coloccini’s agent has stated that we did match the original asking price and even offered a little more, so please don’t blame our reps for messing this one up.
    Catch 22 springs to mind.

I mentioned it in the previous article. Coloccini can’t use Article 17 as more than 15 days have passed since the end of the season. Any request to use this article must be made in that time.

its funny how when Spurs play well that all the glory supporters come out of the wood work. i know at least 4 people that have suudnely claimed to be lifelong Spurs fans in Newcastle.
i bet that if Spurs had a couple of poor seasons the so called lifelong fans would crawl back to were they came from or change legions.

I cant stand Spurs, they only get so much coverage becasue they are the FAs golden club.

They will need a new CB although they have other priorities right now both Gardner and Kaboul are off. Here is some news that I warned you about but you never listen.

31 Jul 2008 — Depor Sport wrote on its Wednesday’s issue that Lendoiro’s demands to Newcastle for defender Coloccini are for €12.5 million plus objectives. So far, the Toons are only offering €11 million.

A lot has been written abut the possible departure of Fabricio Coloccini. It’s known that Newcastle United is offering €11 million plus an additional million for objectives. And now the demands of president Lendoiro have been revealed. Depor Sport, the official paper of the club, wrote on Wednesday that Depor’s president is asking for €12.5 million plus €1.5 million for objectives, in resume the transfer of the Argentinean has been valued in €14 million by Lendoiro.

The situation has angered the agent of the player, Marcelo Lombilla. The problem is that Lendoiro promised to open the doors to the ex-Milan defender in case that a €10 million offer appears. Lombilla worked three months in order to have that offer, and when he presented it, Lendoiro was risen the limit. For the moment all the sides are keeping their position. Depor’s president decided to stay in La Coruña and Lombilla in Madrid. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s squad is playing a couple of friendly games in Spain.

It’s also known that Coloccini isn’t the only choice in Newcastle’s agenda. According to the rumours, they are also interested in Nicolás Burdisso from Inter Milan FC. It seems the English side could offer €6.5 million for Burdisso in case the deal for Coloccini fails.

Does anybody out there seriously think we can compete for a European place with our squad ???

We are now well behind Spurs, Portsmouth and others.

I agree you can’t throw money down the pan like NUFC have done in the past.

But even Stevie Wonder’s dog knows we need a handful of quality players in…at least. NOT players who we can sell on for a profit. This isn’t EBAY for poops sake.

Is this the beginning of the end for Newcastle United………

    Find out in 4 weeks……

Nobby’s Dad, I love this blog mate but the comments are too repetetive imo.

I said I will support the team whatever but MA still has time to help strengthen the team so yeah a little more patience I think is required.

Disappointments galore but alot could be “press” rubbish and shouldn’t always be believed.
Lets just be positive about the players we have and not dream or moan about the players we want. I’m looking forward to KK’s team this season, Ok we might not be as good as the top 4 but I’d like to think we’ll be good opposition for everyone else.

Chelsea have 2 good teams atleast out of their squad if not more but they can only field 11 at a time.

As I mentioned in a previous thread, I actually quite like that we are being run like a proper football club, and that we are getting our house in order. What we have been DESPERATELY needing, has been some stability. We have been throwing money around looking for a quick-fix jump into the titel race for the past 10 years, and since Sir Bobby we have just gotten further and further away.

The past couple of windows, we have gone for low-risk, reasonable signings, and I quite like that. Now we need to bring in a quality LB and a back-up RB, and then we need to get the squad to work together and get into Europe, and once our backroom, managerial team, youth program etc. are a bit more settled, once we have gotten wages down a bit by phasing out the over-paid players such as Duff, Smith, Geremi, Cacapa we can push on and make new signings of a higher class. I know this sounds unambitious, but it’s not, it’s just that we need to build the club up from the bottom, not gamble by making some huge signing and pinning all our hopes on him.

We are in this for the long-haul, and we are Newcastle United. Let’s stand together and be strong in that way.

ps. I am not saying I would MIND a big signing if it did come through 🙂

I think a realistic attempt at determining our team come the new season:

    New LB……Faye……Taylor…….Beye
    (Enrique).(Bassong).(Cacapa)..New RB

This team with youth such as Forster, Edgar, Lua-Lua, and Carroll as backup.

Out: Ameobi sold, Krul out on loan.
    In: Starting LB, backup RB
