Danny Guthrie – We Must Improve Our Game

Danny Guthrie believes Newcastle will need to improve their game from last Saturday, if they are to do well in  Mallorca.

Danny Guthrie – settling in nicely

Doncaster got a sloppy late goal at the Keepmoat Stadium to get a good 1-0 win over the Premier League side.

Guthrie admitted it still hurt to lose against teams from lower divisions.

Guthrie is clear that Newcastle will need to improve their game big time from last Saturday if they are to beat Hertha Berlin and Real Mallorca to win the Summer Cup.

Danny said from the Balearic Islands today:

“It will be a step up again here in Majorca.”

“The class of teams improves and there is a different culture and weather conditions to deal with.”

“For us this is definitely a big step up and we have to be ready for it.”

Guthrie has been more than impressive in the two games Newcastle fans have seen the youngster play in, and he could turn out to be a pleasant surprise this season for the club.

In his first 8minutes he set up a goal for Duff ans then helped himself to another at Hartlepool United.

It appears that Guthrie will play some part in the opener against German side Hertha Berlin tomorrow night, and Argentine Jonas Gutierrez is expected to make his debut in that game.

Guthrie added:

“I am settling in better game by game. I’ve been learning how things are done at Newcastle.”

“I am enjoying it and getting to know my new team-mates.”

Guthrie played well last season for Bolton Wanderers and  endured a tough relegation battle with Bolton finally doing well at the end to stay in the Premier league.

Guthrie continued:

“The main thing at this stage is match fitness.”

“So we are looking to get as many minutes under our belts.”

It should be a good game tomorrow night, to see how young Guthrie again performs, and of course it will be our very first look at 25 year-old Jonas Gutierrez.

I hope we don’t start with Smith and Shola up front again. I hope Martins is feeling up to a game.

let’s hope he plays like a young rob lee.

so KK has stated that he expects two more signings. it is widely suspected that those two are Collocini (or alternative) and Warnock (or alternative) and while I’d be thrilled if we signed both of them I’d still be dissapointed that we didn’t bring in an additional creative player for the center of the park.

2.5M for Marc Crosas seems a snip.

well of course we need to do better as we lost last game what some cliché rubbish its likens striker saying I have to kick the ball into the net more well that’s obvious isn’t it. I agree bob marley we wanted 5 then looked at the 10 million left and though ok this will ony stretch to 2 players it’s sickening to think we will spend in total is just to what spuds payed for bentley shocking oh and let’s add on machams have spent double than we will tut tut fat cat ashley.

Yeah…I believe after the 3 signings, he expects two more.

That’ll make 5. Which was what he said initially.

Spot on gorskino10, it’s all right trying to pick up a bargain like we have with Jonas but if we want to get anywhere then we need to spend, he should not have bought the club if he doesn’t want to invest. It’s also been far too queit this summer, all we’ve realy heard is ‘we will be signing x more players’. I would take it all back if it turns out we’ve been working behind the scenes to bring in a few top players but to me it just seems like ashley is been far too shrewd in the transfere market, which is just irritationg from a fans point of view, especialy when others are spending like theres no tommarow.

Nother thing that bothers me is the way keegan says ‘we will be getting x ammount of players, that is my feeling’ which to me sounds like ‘I want x ammount of players, but it’s up to the board’. If Keegan wants to bring a player into his squad and he believes that they are worth it then he should be allowed to sign them, he knows a hell of a lot more than the others in there. Again I hope i’m wrong, but this transfer window is starting to bug the life out of me now.

if we want to get into any of the euro spots then we will need to get another two center midfielders and a striker who can score goals and sell smith and shola

i will say i am in support of ashley and i am confident of a good season and i doubt we will be relegatedlast year i think was a complete one off we had a new manager who had no time to get his feet under the table after just 2 days in charge he had a match against a side that was determined to spoil our partyof the return of keegan and not only that but we had 12 1st teamers available and after that we had some hard fixtures and against borough the refs decisions did not go our way by then we where struggling for confidence and confidence is what i think we will get this year and hopefully some of our underperforming players can start playing well again though i have to admit i have been looking on in envy at the signing of spuds especially dos santos who looks to be a brilliant player and if im honest i dont think well be able to compete with them this year but i dont see why we cant have ago at getting i nthe top 6 just looking at the competition

EVERTON- good but probably over achieved last year they tend to do well one season then not as well the following

VILLA- have an even smaller squad than us have an allround good team but no what you would call superstars

BLACKBURN-unpredictable as it is hard to see how good of a manager ince will be

CITY- a very ambitious club micah tichards is brilliant though i am not sure jo is worth 19 mil and probs wasnt hughes buy as he was linked with them before hughes took over

PORTSMOUTH-won the f.a cup but i think the big 4 didnt give the cup respect last year also with crouch and defoe have a lethal strikeforce

MACKEMS- personally i think they have made some overrated risky buys with bad attitude hopefully this will backfire cause turmoil and sunderland will be on the brink of relegation although if the signings perform like they can they may be able to challenge top 8 or achieve mid table
