Kevin Keegan Upbeat About Summer Cup

Kevin Keegan seems as upbeat as ever today, and thinks the weekend’s Summer Cup has come at the ideal time, as his Newcastle team step up their pre-season preparations, ready for Manchester United on August 17th.

Kevin Keegan – the Summer Cup is a step up for team

Newcastle will play Hertha Berlin at the ONO Estadi on Friday night before then taking on the hosts Real Mallorca on Sunday night.

Both games are broadcast live on Setanta Sports in the UK.

The two games should be a good test for Kevin’s Newcastle side, who will be a lot stronger than they were last Saturday at Doncaster, when 10 first teamers were missing.

Kevin Keegan told nufcTV today that he is very pleased to be taking part in the Balearic-based tournament:

“They are four very good teams and it’s a very good stadium,”

“This tournament is a great step up for us because our first friendly was against a League One side (Hartlepool) and last week we played Doncaster who are in the Championship.”

“German teams are always very well prepared, as I know from playing there, and Real Mallorca are a very good side as well.”

“So we’re looking forward to it. The kick-off times are also good, although it would be nice to play at 2am when it’s cooler.”

“It’s a very good tournament and we’re very happy to be here because Mallorca is a beautiful place.”

Nice to hear Kevin so upbeat as usual – now let’s see if we can win this thing over the  weekend.
