No New Newcastle Transfer News

Not too much on the transfer market today, as Newcastle still try to bring Coloccini to Tyneside.

Fabricio Coloccini – not too much new news today

The Daily Mail has a story out on Coloccoini this morning, but there’s not much new news in it.

They say Deportivo now want £10M for the player when Newcastle thought they had a deal for £7.8M.   Let’s not bother doing business with this Spanish club ever again, after this nonsense.

But we did get young Bassong in, so that’s something, and we are still holding out a chance that we can possibly attract Swiss star Gokhan Inler to Tyneside, although it’s a little bit of a mystery as to whether Newcastle have ever been interested in him.

But with Arsenal apparently not interested in the Udinese player, cyou never know – and certainly need some additional creativity in central midfield.

We did put a story out yesterday afternoon about Inler, and then withdrew it, because we thought it was just too much speculation on our part.

The Udinese general director Pietro Leonardi said recently that the Arsenal interest in Inler was just absurd, and that’s the exact same thing he said about the reported Newcastle interest back on July 11th.

So while Arsenal may not be interested in the player, we wonder if Newcastle are, because we feel he could be a great signing for us.

We did put a poll out yesterday to gauge the reaction of our readers to the possible acqusition of Inler, and so far 82% of around 250 votes so far  think he would be a good buy at £5M.  If you haven’t yet voted – please do.

And it’s now looking like Spurs are about to sign the player who was our number one target before Euro 2008 started, Russian Andrei Arshavin, with the fee at a ridiculous £17M.

Tottenham have been our nemesis this summer, that’s for sure, which is even more reason why we must do well next season, and at least qualify for Europe, so we can attract better players to the club next summer.

But we are still around 4 top players short this summer, and we’ll just have to get them in if we are going to have the successful season we are looking for.

Comments welcome.

Also Spuds seem to have money to burn, can they keep their squad happy?
    They’ll either do a Chelski or a Leeds, I pray it’s the latter….

I have to admit, at the start of the transfer window, I was all for patience and letting the recruitment team do their thing but seeing Spurs Splash out loads on Bolstering their squad as well as Sunderland, Liverpool and Portsmouth, I am getting a little impatient wiating for a “BIG” transfer. At the start I ddn’t think it was neccessary but with every other team making the moves, I fear we could be left behind.

The Sun are reporting that Spurs have tabled a bid for Collocini. The agent had stated that Ramos had a look but hadn’t made an offer. Possibly Ramos has made an offer to help his pall out and force us to meet the Depor demands. Possibly Ramos has made a bid because he wants the player and thinks the €14M is a fair price (given the over inflated prices they are paying for everyone else, wouldn’t be surprised). Possibly the Sun are full of tripe, which would just be the usual state of affairs.
Hopefully we are still in the boss seat and if Spurs have put together a bid which matches the asking price, we can immediately match it and with the players terms already sewn up, can close the deal faster than Spurs.

It really does seem, despite the efforts of NUFC, that the Coloccini saga is dead in the water. Mallorca are not a club to deal with and are behaving like a bunch of greedy spivs. Up to Coloccini to do a “Webster” if he is genuine about a move. Other transfers in? I am really beginning to doubt the so-called credentials of our recruitment team. Unload them and get KK, Cox etc on the job!

Wasn’t a fee agreed on £7,8 mill at first, then Depor changed it.. Is that really allowed when u have an agreement?? Even if just verbally, it is sound if u have witnesses…

I still think that patience is called for. The transfer window closes on the 31st of August so there is still a month of rumours and innuendo to put up with. Hopefully by then we will all be feeling more positive and less frustrated than we do now. I think it is great the way that the club are now handling transfers behind close doors but it does frustrate when you see other clubs making signings.

    About Coloccini…

I’m not sure that FIFA Article 17 (Websters Rule) can be used. The article states that a request must be made no later than 15 days afer the end of the season, which has passed. All he can do now is walk out on the club and I think that would end up very messy.

Newcastle must hold their nerve and possibly lose this player to maintain respect in the transfer market. Cave in and the Toon will be perceived as buckling under pressure, making future transfers harder.

I’m sure Wise and co. won’t want to be seen as failing to provide the players their job dictates they do, so sit tight. Wise’s reputations riding on this window too.

I hope Bassong is a hit but still believe a proven, high quality centre back should be a priority together with a similar top class striker. C’mon lads, make it so!

Heard a story about Wise from a journo pal,
he was on a plane coming back from Dubai when a toon fan sat next to him, introduced himself and asked what he was up to.
“I’ve been looking at this kid at a tournement in Dubai” responded wor Den.
“What you doing next week?” asked the toon fan.
Den getting a bit techy, get’s up and disappears up the aisle, a few minutes later he comes back and grabs his stuff.
“You f£$%ing toon fans, you’ve always had it in for me, I’m off to sit in first class, you can f$%k off!!”
A right charmer is wor Dennis.

I started pre-season thinking lets give it time things will happen, but as the weeks go by and no top players arrive i am now resigning myself to the fact that this season may be a bit of a right off. I think what i am more frustrated at is the fact that it seems eveyone is bringing in players and spending money, now i know what every one will say that spending money doesnt gurantee anything.
Yes i agree but it does give you a bloody good chance of improving upon what you had previously, last season we were poor and i think if we are to kick on we need to bring the buzz back to the club. A big signing will do this, collichini will do this and it would get everyone singing from the same hym sheet which as we all know once that happens up here its like a snow ball affect and it just takes off.
I know depor have shafted us but thats what football is about, it has happened in the past and it will happen in the future. Mike Ashley will not change how football is run and unless we keep up with those who are prepaired to pay a little over the top we will get left behind.

Any way no matter what lets get behind who ever steps onto the pitch wearing the black & white next season and make St James’ a fortress again.

To be honest I am a bit worried about the lack of experienced Premiership players that we have got in thus far. Lets hope to see an experienced defender or 2 come in over the next week.
PS A couple of world class midfielders might sell a few more tickets and merchandise Mr Ashley!!!

Spurs are our Dr. Moriarty, our Lex Luther and our Magneto all into one…

“Newcastle and Tottenham are battling for Deportivo La Coruna defender Fabricio Coloccini.

The Sun says both clubs have made bids for the Argentina centre-half.

Newcastle are offering better personal terms with a deal of around £35,000 a week.

But Spurs have a slight edge as boss Juande Ramos is a pal of Deportivo president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro.

And it is understood the Argie player prefers a move to London.”

Its from the dubious source tribalfootball so its properly not true, but just the idea of all these stories with spurs stealing our targets after we had put in a bid first is driving my crazy.

… and did I mention that something stinks about Owens situation.

This mumps business is long finished. The reason given by KK for him not appearing at Doncaster was a slight calf strain.

That kept the captain away from the pre-season yet Oba made the trip.

I’m proud of Oba’s commitment and suspicious of Owen’s.

spurs have spent 43 million this summer but they have recouped 40 million.
when they sell kaboul to pompey they will have actually brought in more money than they have spent. only when/if they buy Arshavin will that change.
so if that is the case and they spend 15 million net. thats extremely good business for Bentley, Arshavin and Modric.

    it makes me sick!

i wish we didnt have a tight owner.!

Why do people think Keegan can do any better than the current recruitment team? FFS we have the guy who used to do the job for Real Madrid.
Keegan is not a draw for players. Get over it will you. Stop with the Keegan w@nkfest and realise that NUFC is bigger and better than just Keegan. I’m getting sick to the back teeth about people saying that if Keegan was involved that we would have signed, Berbatov, Kaka, Ronaldo, etc… Keegan is a has been. His is a top man as a person, and I loved every single second of his playing days and later his management days in the 90’s, but he is yesterdays man. If we wanted a previous player on board to attract current players to the club we should be using Shearer. Keegan is about as relevant to todays players as Malcom McDonald.
Do you not think when players are looking to join a club they will look at the managers record as a manager to see if he is going to take them places? Players won’t just join a club because Keegan does one of his famous motivation speeches. Fine have keegan to do his rallies, but also have someone who knows something about winning silverware alongside him. McDermott and Cox are not good enough. Stop looking through rose tinted specs and realise that all of our problems don’t just lie with out lack of transfer activity.
Get real and realise that MA is responsible for bringing this guy back and that was a bigger mistake than not spending over the odds on has been players.
I really hope that Keegan can prove me wrong and I would love to have you lot throwing this back in my face when he leads us to silverware, but I just can’t see it happening.
I’ve asked this before, but do you think that MA isn’t backing Keegan because he doesn’t trust Keegan to do the job?

Please try to show me where I’m wrong without resorting to just calling me a cock end. I’m genuinely interested in hearing why Keegan is such a good appointment.

On another note, its good to see that we finally figured out that the power lies with the agenst and have started to make friends among them… It seems like Coloccini’s agent is really fighting our fight, properly because he will get a big payment for being the negotiating party between the clubs, instead of us going directly to Depor.

Rangers could well fail to qualify for the Champions league and will therefore drop out of Europe….they arn’t given an entry to the UEFA cup. No cash coming in, they will need to sell……Cuellar could be on his way.

…Rather not push it if he ain’t fully recovered from mumps…We don’t need him getting injured just before the season!..& lots of clubs claim some of their ‘big’ players are ‘slightly’ injured in the transfer window or near international duty, to either stop others trying to buy them & not having to send them with their national team abroad, respectively!..
