Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has today said Newcastle are close to another transfer breakthrough.
Kevin Keegan – new signing within 24 hours
Newcastle, as we reported in our squad analysis this morning, have signed Jonas Gutierrez, Danny Guthrie and Sebastien Bassong this summer.
However Kevin has said on Spanish TV, following this morning’s training session, that he hopes to recruit another top player by tomorrow.
Keegan would not reveal the identity of his latest target, (surprise, surprise), but it is no secret the club has been trying to sign Deportivo La Coruna defender, Fabricio Coloccini, for some time now.
 Coloccini – let’s hope it’s him
Maybe that will be the player, which is consistent with one of our earlier stories today that the deal would need to be ctrlosed today.
We hope it’s Coloccini, and then there will be only three to go to vomplete the squad – keeping our fingers crossed.
Comments welcome.

Comment #81Jonas can play right across the midfield, Warnock can play lb or dm and colloccini can play cb rb and dm. i think we will sign colloccini and warnock and i think there could be a shock massive signing before the window closes also a couple of up and coming youngsters.
im looking forward to tonights game on setanta. Think that we will get turned over as martins has a knock and we will have nothing upfront as smith and ameobi will play. id rather that we played with 9 men than have them two on the field!!!!

Comment #89Not so long ago I was thinking about puttin a bet on Blackburn going down. I did last season with Bolton, and they almost did. I think they are in a similar situation (losing best player Anelka/Bentley, new manager Ince/Mini Sam, etc). I reckon the odds might be quite tasty, especially now, since Santa Cruz hasn’t left ….yet.

Comment #90I hope it’s either Colo or a top quality DM. Butt is a good squad player, but I rekon a DM with a bit more passing ability, pace and height would do wonderful to our squad.

Comment #94i must admit looking at the league im worried that if we get a few key injuries are we going to suffer in the league and struggle to keep prem status. hull and stoke are guarenteed down but who is the third to go down.scumderland have improved with a bunch of mercenaries!!! fulham have signed god knows how many boro will be stronger as long as they dont loose their best players. west ham will improve. blackburn portsmouth spuds everton aston villa are all safe, bolton have got a couple of good signings. i think that we need to strengthen urgently as we are majorly thin and we could easily mess up and get dragged down. GOD FORBID!!!

Comment #95oh right, mine was from nufc.co.uk and everytime iv had a message its always been true, usually get them a while before its announced anywhere else, wen keegan came back my mate was in bookies at time he got message and had time to get all the money in his pocket on keegan as next manager so won a few quid through it. lol

Comment #100Not necessarily “3 to go” – that is just a mixture of hopes and opinion. But if we get someone in the next day that’ll be 4 in, with plenty of weeks to go until the deadline so that’s quite encouraging I think!
Amongst the youngsters we’re recruiting, would love us to add a mf or two as well.

Arda looks a very good prospect but we dont need more wingers! This should be seen as a luxory signing towards the end of the window

Comment #106Cooper – you may have a point there. If he lied to me he’s an ex-mate. Still think it will be Arda though. My pal is not usually a wind-up merchant. He’s a bit too dull for that.

Comment #117Given that VDV signed for Real Madrid why don’t we go after De La Red on LOAN – cheaper and risk-free option (Ashley would like). DLR has said that he wont leave Madrid but he did spend last year out on loan. Of course, if he came he’d have to change his name to De La Black & White
