We are hearing from our readers in Spain, that an agreement between Newcastle United and Deportivo for defender Coloccini, is being reported tonight by Radio Cadena Ser.
Fabricio Coloccini – agreement reported reached between clubs
The radio report says that the two clubs have finally reached agreement on the player.
The deal is said to be for 11M euro (£8.8M), plus an incentive of 1M euro (£0.8M) by the player meeting certain objectives at the Tyneside club. This looks very like the Newcastle offer that was made.
His agent Marcelo Lombillo, said:
“It’s an agreement between the clubs and only remaining are the details of the contract,”
Coloccini is reported to be ready to travel to Newcastle on Monday, to undergo a medical and to discuss personal terms, and if everything is OK the player is expected to sign for Newcastle.
This is what Radio Cadena Ser is reporting – so we know that part is true.
This is obviously not official, and we will have to wait to see if the Newcastle club issue any announcement tomorrow, about an agreement between the clubs indeed being reached.
But most Newcastle fans need a lift after tonight’s performance, so let’s hope the radio report is factual, although our own record on this site on these things has not been too good, to be truthful.
But we do know that Kevin has said he hopes to announce a player signing within 24 hours, so we hope it’s Fabricio, but you never know.
We do know that Deportivo’s President Lendoiro had decided to travel to Venezuela tomorrow, and if a deal wasn’t reached before he left on Saturday morning, it would be delayed, presumably until he returned to Spain.
Wishing and Hoping – especially after tonight’s very disappointing 1-0 defeat against Hertha Berlin.

Get rid of Smith and Ameobi…After 2 games they have never looked like scoring! Not good enough for a team with European ambition…

Comment #87Maybe pair Coloccini up with our other new signing #46:) Like the look of him playing (on the interview with Kev on .co.uk) Hope he’s got some pace aswell!? Didn’t see the Rovers-game, but got the impression that Bassong played fairly well…?

Gutierrez, Guthrie, Coliccini – 3 great KK signings and more to come.
Our team will be much better this season, but you have to trust the manager to make sound judgements, he sees players day in day out, he knows what we need.
Ohhhh I feel like ordering a kebab! Maybe its the beer munchies!

Comment #94Enrique did well enough when he came on, but imo he isnt anywhere near the finished article and he made too many mistakes lat season… He is one for the future tho, and good back-up for a Warnock?

Comment #95Right i have been quiet for a few weeks now but i have to say something. After watching tonights game it confirmed everything i already new. Living in Liverpool i knew Gutherie was gonna be a good possibly even great player as the Scousers were gutted when we got him. Smith,Ameobi,Geremi have to go i mean have to go they are so so bad i would happily take 1 million for them, absolutely useless. Colocini is gonna be another great buy and will enhance our defence no end. Not sure what game all the Duff fans were watching but he came on and did nothing. He won a corner and that was only because he couldn’t beat the defender for pace. He is never gonna be that player he was at Blackburn and the sooner we realise that and sell him the better. Anyway Rant over and i apoligise but i had to get that off my chest

Comment #99Mac – you’re wrong about Duff. I have been a hige critic of his performances over past two years…seemed lazy as well as lacking a killer touch. But tonight, and when he scored his hat trick week or so ago, he ran with pace, moved across the field, overlapped on the wing and got shots on target. (He had two actually, as well as taking two good corners…better than Geremi’s by far.)

Comment #101i think enrique has a sweet left foot. I think he will only get better. He prob played better tonight because of he heat being back in spain, although Donny was supposed to be med temperatures and he fooked up there. No he will defo get better for me. BUT we still need another good left back with prem experience, warnock or shorey for me

Comment #105No, I’ll kinda back Nick up: Titus Bramble was the David James of defenders – he really was brilliant 95% of the time, he was just making a shocking error the other 5% of the time which cost you the game…

Comment #111Benji i think my Nana could take better corners that Geremi. Look i’m not a duff hater or anything and i admit he is looking better in pre seaon that he has looked in 2 years but i just don’t think he’s ggot it anymore. We were playing a team that finished 10th in Germany, imagine how he is gonna look against the prem defences. let him play well in pre season and sell him we’re stocked for winger s

Comment #113Gareth – Bramble was strong, quick, could thump the ball like a rocket but played like an idiot positionally and was a very poor man-marker. Besides, lapses inc concentration for 5% of the time are worse for CBs than goalkeepers…if the CB is good enough the keeper’s mistakes never get noticed.
Does anyone have any other verification on the De La Red thing? Can’t trust wiki I’m afraid, anyone can edit it. He got rave reviews on loan at Getafe, but ony created 4 and scored 3 goals. Looks like he might not get a game back at Madrid this season. Is he proven enough?

Comment #115Toonarmy – Martins and Owen together up front won’t work in a 442 an I want to see wingers. For raw ability, potential and committment to the Toon I’d have Oba over Owen, although Owen is the more complete player at the moment.

Comment #116Mac – you have a point on selling him. Milner, Zog and Jonas may all be better than him this season. But, weren’t you excited when Duff came to us? When we signed him I thought we’d got a player who was going to the best winger at SJP since Ginola. Maybe…just maybe…KK is the man to get that quality back in his game?

Comment #118BenjiToon – don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that because of the 5% thing I wouldn’t pick many other defenders ahead of Bramble – same reason I wouldn’t let James near an England team – I was just saying that Nick had some sort of point going despite the criticism. I’d still say his positioning was fine – 95% of the time…

Comment #120We need a hell of a lot more than a lb, add a rb a playmaker and a striker- then we are set! It is so obvious what we need to get any movement in the table. Like I have said before get these in and now! , then we can talk about progress.
