Tottenham Give Up On Arshavin

BBC Sport is reporting that Tottenham have decided against pursuing Russian star Andrei Arshavin.

Andrei Arshavin – Tottenham no longer interested

The BBC is reporting that Arshavin’s club Zenit St Petersburg have rejected a bid from Tottenham Hotspur, and that may have ended the deal for the 27 year-old Russian.

But a Spurs source has told BBC Sports that in fact Spurs have not even bid for the Russian, and have simply turned their attention to other players.

Arshavin has been linked with Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea and now Tottenham since Euro 2008 ended, and each club has finally pulled out.

It’s not helping the player that his club have priced him way too high, and that may backfire on them, as greed sometimes does.

However, Arshavin’s tremendous Russian team-mate, striker Roman Pavlyuchenko, is thought to be one of the players Spurs are now interested in.

But even his price has spiralled up to £15M, when at the Euro 2008, he was said to be available for £6M – yes, sure.

Roman looked tremendous in the Euro 2008 tournament, and seems ready-made to be a big star in the Premier league.

A big strong lad, very physical, good header of a ball, and keeps scoring – not unlike a certain Alan Shearer, come to think of it.

On Thursday, Arshavin’s agent Dennis Lachter said he was confident his client would be playing for Tottenham next season.

Lachter told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“It is my prediction that Arshavin is going to be a Tottenham player this season,”

“He just rejected a huge, huge offer to renew his contract for another five years.”

“He would like to leave for the Premier League.”

Wrong again.

Maybe after all of this – Newcastle may just be the last club standing – just like we were the first to be interested in the Russian last November.

We missed our chance and should have signed him in January when he was available at £8M.   🙁

We live and learn.

I feel we should go for him, it would give the fans and the press something to shout. Sadly it maybe time to offload old Duffy boy to blackburn and bring in young Warnock!

Gutierrez’s play is immense he’s all over them, tall, strong and pacey midfielder and guthries passing is top notch in all. Smith has had no touches which ain’t surprising.
Also we should go for Arshavin but still prefer it if Newcastle went for Arda.

Dont fany ArseShavin at anything other than 8 million (not going to happen) or Arda Turan – both seemed very patchy in the Euros. Would prefer Moutinho – if w are goingto pay big money – and Coliconni Burdiso & Derdiyok

    join the second half lads

once more i must pay homage to the greatness of the World Wide Web, FREE FOOTBALL FOR FCUK SAKE!!!!!!!

without owen martins or viduka playing we will struggle to score goals unles we put duff or another mid upfront- Jez ameobi, as if he is not playing for a top flight team

i have my words for the usual suspects who find themselves in the team tonight, but i will refrain-

its just sooo gooood to watch the toon army after so long-

JONAS looks class- intelligent- he will bring all the Argentinian dirty and sly tricks into our team- thats why i hope the boy from Depo comes

    vital statistics

    newcastle scored 45 goals

newcastle conceded 67 goals (only two other teams more)

both records i think- the first one has to be redeemed for sure

martins owen viduka….possibly one more new one?

Since when was it a fact that we could have signed him for £8m in December?

Its amazing how this stuff becomes fact without any substance at all.

There’s no way he was available in December for £8m.

Desperate stuff. No flair in the centre of the park. Smith looked lost. Butt, Geremi and Cacapa a yard slower than last season. Milner? Just can’t make up my mind.

Tonights performance just dreadful-Geremi,Cacapa.Luis-Enrique,Smith,Ameobi,Butt just not good enough. KK has big defensive problems apart from no strikers and Colocinni alone isn’t going to solve it. Now that Spurs are no longer interested in Arshavin, they are probably signing the Argentinian.

Oh dear, all the old problems from last season still in evidence.

Who told Smith he was a forward? He didn’t even look interested. Ameobi was equally inept and must have stood on the touchline for 5 minutes waiting to be taken off injured. Cacapa , Butt and Geremi are all done for speed and to top it all Geremi cannot pass. Young Zog at left back has no positional sense.

Was impressed with Spiderman, and Guthrie put in a good stint too.

The best was Duff when he came on.

We are toothess up front. Very worrying.

We desperately need new players in.

Please Mike get the cheque book out.

Arshavin and Zenit believe their own press, (delusional), £20+m. ? sorry no more than £10m, is all he`s worth.
See Spurs offered around £15m. shoulda jumped on it.
Fraid both Zenit and Arsh. are going to be stuck with each other, according to reports Zenit offered him the deal of a lifetime, so take it allready !
Hope you will both be happy.

I forgot to mention Bent, the answer up front.
A tall natural goalscorer, meets the age profile.
Perhaps not the wage profile, but believe he will go on to be a consistent goalscoring machine if given the chance.
Like to see how he would link up with both Martens or MO.
Spurs may be willing to let him go, have to see who they sign to replace Keane

you guys may think Roman Pavlyuchenko was good at the Euro, but he was actually the 2nd choice until Pavel Pogrebnyak got injured. Pogrebnyak is by far the better player, if you had watched him scoring 11 goals in the UEFA Cup last season.

Imagine if Newcastle got Arshavin as playmaker and Pogrebnyak as long term replacement for Viduka!
