Kevin Keegan has selected an interesting side for the game tonight against Real Mallorca.
There are three changes from the side which was beaten by Hertha Berlin on Friday night.
Shola Ameobi has a slight hamstring problem and misses out and Nicky Butt, Jason Gutierrez and Charles N’Zogbia are rested.
As expected new signing Sebastien Bassong gets another start, along with David Edgar and Damien Duff.
Not quite sure what the back four will look like but it could be Taylor, Cacapa, Bassong and Enrique, with Geremi, Guthrie, Edgar and Duff forming a midfield four and Milner and Smith up front.
Milner gets a chance up front as we had thought - since that’s where he started his career as a schoolboy.
Newcastle will be wearing their purple for tonight’s game and Geremi will again captain the side.

Smith looks as bad as ever. The lad is a complete and utter nothing on the pitch, that’s the only way i can describe him - equivalent to playing with 10 men. Surely KK and coaches must be seeing it?

well it isnt a good start, majorca nice one touch football with great movement and we are having to trap and play “static” looking uncomfortable on the ball very basic. I think the lads know with smith upfront and the attacking options available this game aint playable.

I wonder if this is majorca’s best team they are not bad, although it is probably us making them look good. I’m totally not bothered about the result it means nowt, in fact its exactly what we need - I’m hoping MA will dip into his long pockets.
Owen, Martins, Viduka, Beye, Faye, NZog, Guttierez, Butt will all be in the starting line up (unless we sign better) so it really doesnt mean anything. BUT squad is thin and thats the main thing to take from all of this - we must improve depth, or we will struggle next term. I’m confident we will sign well before the end of the transfer window

Did Ashley make his millions by saving 20p pieces in a jar or what. He seriously needs to spend some money on decent players because the squad we have is embarassing. We have no creative midfielder now that Emre has gone and Smith is just not good enough. I know we have players to come in but my point is that they aren’t fit now so when, if at all, are we going to have a full strength team this season. We don’t just need cover - we need class! This performance, albeit just a friendly, is woeful.

Upto now, we supporters have rubbished any such story in the NOTW, but now for some reason, some of us are prepared to believe the story. worst thing about milner is he obviously doesn’t practise crossing, because he never improves. He has been bad at it for years now. I have to say, our coaching staff must be pretty poor if we can’t teach our midfield how to pass and move and play good crosses.

two quick points:
1) Maybe everyone’s just dog-tired from the supposed battering they’re getting in training. Allegedly, they haven’t been working with the ball much, right?

My feeling so far -
Harper - solid
Edgar - The guy will never be good enough sell him to Leeds for £500k or Toronto FC lol. Has no confidence in himself and has made enough appearences to take this in his stride - bye bye
Taylor - mistake for goal, im starting to think Colo and Faye now, worryingly Tayls seems to have got a little worse I think.
Bassong - Looks solid, done nothing wrong ver pleased with him. With Colo we have 4 top CB.
Enrique - A good back-up full back but not good enough to start for us, to many silly errors.
Milner - worst I have seen him play for a long time, his crossing has gone back to the way it was in Bobbys era.
Duff - playing well gtting involved. Still we need wingers that take on players and beat them. Duff cant beat them, and Milner doesnt try it enough.
Guthrie - decent but very very light weight, so weak.
Cacapa - out of position doesnt want the ball, need a top passer there.
Geremi - trying but I dont think the laers around him have his creative ability- must be as frustrating as it is watching.
Smith - This is a statement, but I think he is arguably the WORST, and most overrated player to play at Newcastle. He literally in both games has touched it a few times and thn lost it. The guy is absolute s***. I really hope Keano has a flutter on him. He can go and play RB at Sunderland.
This is for atching first hour of game. I must say would have started Donaldson/Danquah who are actual strikers rather than play people out of position.

i cant understand at all why Donaldson/Danquah both are not playing, unless they are worse than smith and if that is the case what are they doing at the club, no disrespect to k.k but i cant work out his logic on playing smith up there by himself when its a proven fact evry1 knows smith is wank.the only logic i can make of it is that he is giving smith anuff rope to hang himself with so in the season when he isnt getting a game and marches up to kk office kk can say look you have had youre chance smith on youre bike.

bassong looks mint. he’s a big lad, agile, and he looks pretty calm. smith is possibly the worst i’ve ever seen in a newcastle shirt. geremi looks like he’s taking a goal kick at every set piece and milner cant cross to save himself.
