Per Ciljan Skjelbred Wants To Join Newcastle

It appears that Rosenborg midfielder Per Ciljan Skjelbred wants a move to Newcastle United, the club he has supported since he was a child.

Per Ciljan Skjelbred – wants a move to Newcastle United

The proverbial mysterious source from the Norwegian club told the Evening Chronicle:

“What is interesting is that Newcastle are still following Skjelbred and are preparing to lodge a £4.5m bid for him if their bigger transfer targets slip out of their hands.”

“Which is also why Skjelbred is putting off signing a new deal with Rosenborg.”

” He does not want to make things messy if Newcastle or another club he might find interesting comes in for him before the end of the transfer window.”

Skjelbred has three caps for Norway and feels he has nothing more to prove in his country’s native Tippeligaen – the Norwegian football league.

We have reported a few times that Newcastle have been scouting the player, but it appears he’s in the secondary list of targets, those that we’ll go after if we cannot get the primary targets in.

His agent said:

“All the clubs from the big leagues have been watching him.”  “So far what I can say is that nobody from Newcastle has come to me.

“There has been no contact in that way yet.” “He is very ambitious, and if Newcastle came to us with an offer then we would have to seriously consider it.”

So look to see if we sign others soon, and if not it could well be the club will move in for the Norwegian – makes sense to us – and the lad just turned 21 years old in June too.

    We should buy him. I´ve watched him playing 3 times and he is a good player I think. Let´s get him ´cause we won´t get any better.

    I despairingly note that these claims are made in the Evening Chronicle…..If that is indeed the case, we can all be assured that there will be no true to it…!

    Honestly, I’m amazed either Oliver or Ryder are deemed legitimate journalists, let alone receive financial rewards for their services.

    This guy is different gravy. Similar kind of player to Wayne Rooney. Sign him & Arda & a good lb & we’ll do well this season

    He is nothing like Rooney WTF u on about. My orry is that one he is light-weight, and two he looks best on the wing which make me think this story is a repeat or rubbish. I wish we got Emana who went to Betis. He is exactly the type we need dynamic, strong, goalscoring CM. Similar to Essien but more offensive.

    In another story in the comments, someone said we put a cheeky bid in for Xavi, maybe its him? But no-one apart from dennis wise n co. know really..

    We desperately need centre-midfielders with creative flair though.

    @JohnGoodwn…
    Skjelbred is a central midfielder.. not a striker.
    and second of all…
    Sign him up. He’s got bags of potential. Could be our version of Fabregas. He’s creative, and is regarded very highly. Plus, its always good to sign someone who really wants to play for the club, instead of those players who join because of greed, and financial consideration.

    i hope to christ that nufc are working their god damn asses off to get a top drawer cm in soon. at the moment its evident we have NO creativity AT ALL!! the last 2 games have been embarassing. why did they sell emre without having a replacement being even close to signed. with barton probably going to be ruled out we will be in serious trouble if cm isnt sorted.

    @Ross G,
    Of course he is nothing like Rooney. He’s a CM, and err.. Rooney’s not. No need to go into the difference in skillsets, coz frankly, its very difficult to predict how good or bad a player will be in the Premiership these days. But Skjelbred is better than our current crop of central midfielders, and would be a great buy if the 4.5 m doesnt vary much.

    Butt may score some of his signature flukes. Geremi the odd free-kick, or deflection. Guthrie may score a screamer or two. Can’t see Spider-Man scoring too many, although he may surprise us. And Duff… well… he’s already filled his 3 goal a season quota, and will emulate Alan Smith for the rest of the season.

    i reckon the team in for Ronaldo could be QPR. you might think that is stupid but think about it. They have rich owners now and they are getting good players in. They got Real Madrid star prospect on loan. They will pay him a lot too. And at 31 cant see many bigger teams going for him.

    Let’s hope it’s not Arshavin.
