Coloccini - Newcastle Are Historic Club With Great Manager

August 3rd, 2008 · 97 Comments

The Sunday Sun is reporting today that Fabricio Coloccini’s agent Marcello Lombilla had threatened to report Deportivo President Lendoiro to FIFA, for ruining his player’s career.

fabricio-colccini-6878.jpg

Fabricio Coloccini - Newcastle historic with great manager

The paper says that Lombilla was also looking to invoke rules that would allow the player to buy out his contract via article 17 in the FIFA transfer rules, before then advising Newcastle United to look elsewhere.

But we think none of that is true, and basically Deportivo President, Lendoira was leaving for Venezuela yesterday, and it was appropriate the two teams accelerated the negotiations, or else be prepared to wait a while to complete the deal.

Newcastle official, Dennis Wise, broke away from the pre-season tournament in Mallorca to conduct further talks, and with a five-year deal now said to be agreed, the move will probably be finalized tomorrow.

Coloccini has been very keen to join Newcastle as he told the Sunday Sun today:

“It will be excellent for me if the move is finally done,”

“The chance to join Newcastle is not only about money, it is a historic club with a great manager and big ambitions for the season.”

“I’ve always loved the Premier League, I’ve watched many matches on television, it’s sensational.”

“The standard is similar to Spain and I’m convinced I won’t suffer any problems adapting . . . Argentinian players are able to play and triumph in any country so I don’t fear the English league.”

Good that Fabricio knows the Tyneside club is historic - we like the guy already. :D

And it looks like he’s already talked to Kevin Keegan, but we also hope it’s a lot more than just about money.

The 5 year deal will be a source of great security (and wealth) for the player, but he still has to produce big time on the field for Newcastle United - that’s why we are paying him big bucks after all.

But we think we could well have a gem with this lad - if truth be told.
Comments welcome.

  • 3 Irish_toon // Aug 3, 2008 at 16:45

any way now that i’ve got that out of my system….him and faye in the centre would be immence!!!

  • 4 Oleg G // Aug 3, 2008 at 16:46

Let it be over already and finish the deal,
I hope this one is for real, although so many days its dragging.

And what about this Indian 21 Billions guy ?

    another story? or its real?

  • 5 Clarke_19_rangers // Aug 3, 2008 at 16:50

Now just Inler for £10 million, a striker and a left back and were set for next season.

  • 6 Robby Bobson // Aug 3, 2008 at 16:50

I liked him years ago when i first saw his hair. I love him even more now.

Finally we have replaced Woodgate after many years, with a player who has European and International pedigree, not some French clown who played well for 6 months in Scotland.

  • 7 Teddy // Aug 3, 2008 at 16:52

‘its not just about the money’

i dnt no i jst think he is here to get money otherwise y wud he say it? :S

  • 8 Kaler // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:00

Sounds a class act, can’t wait for confirmation of this, be a great signing.

  • 9 sirjasontoon // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:01

Let’s get this deal done…it is taking ages !

He will be immense for us.

  • 10 furrygiblets // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:04

Please hurry this deal up. Even at this late stage im still wary of the Spuds

  • 11 hitman // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:15

why are we draging our feet on this, have wisey and co screwed up yet again.

  • 12 Spyro // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:15

Ed whats going on with the site? it keeps getting suspended

  • 13 hitman // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:16

why are we dragging our feet on this, have wisey and co messed up yet again.

  • 14 Kevin // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:31

The site’s getting suspended because the wheels are turning and the Toon Army can’t get enough!! I LOVE it when this site gets suspended!!

Lads, I hate to be the optimistic one here, but think about a defensive line of Beye, Faye (or maybe Tayls), Coloccini, and Enrique (or maybe Shorey?) - THAT IS A GREAT DEFENSE. If we could add Arda Turan to this midfield, we’d really have something - and that’s BEFORE the 150 million of Indian funds!

  • 15 darren grech MALTA // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:31

shall we make an offer to REQUELME ?

if we signs coluccini than we can use him and gutierrez as a help to persuade REQUELME come to the toon.

at the age of 30 REQUELME can sign a 3 year contract and can still be a hit in england and europe

he’s the same age as lampard and deco

we need players like these with big knowledge in the game

  • 16 Ian // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:31

Teddy: Beye made a similar comment when coming here and look how he performed. Players can move for money and still play well, he’ll want to prove himself here as well

Hitman: We’ll be sorting out his medical tomorrow probably, no point in dragging the physios into work on the weekend if we don’t have to.

  • 17 Irish-Toon // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:33

Coloccini and either Faye or Taylor would make our defence look alot better than last year, I also like d the look of Bassong in the friendlies, it augers well for the season, fingers crossed!

  • 18 Cooper // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:34

i dont know why everyone thinks colo and faye will be the partnership at the back..

Surely coloccini will be brilliant to help develop TAYLOR further.

Anyway i read today in one of the papers that faye could posibly be one the move - i would still like him to stay though becasue he done well last season.

  • 19 Spyro // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:36

Taylor at the back with coloccino will just make coloccini look rubbish, we need a good defender next to him, Faye

  • 20 Geordie SPIDERMAN18 (GG7) // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:36

i think faye will move, but it will be taylor and collicini, i think it will be a very good pairing, i already rate both of our full back very highly

  • 21 matt // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:37

you cant realistically expect to coax someone to a club soley based on history. That’s ridiculous, footballers are business men nowadays.

Not everyone we sign will have watched nufc all their lives, but as long as they leave it all on the pitch, that’s fine by me.

  • 22 kierran // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:38

dont want to sound like a bitch, cos ur doing a good job with the site Ed. But uve gotta sort this website problem out, everytime there is a decent story the site crashes, which kinda sucks tbh…

  • 23 Irish_toon // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:38

    Cooper
because Faye is much better than Taylor being the main reason

  • 24 Spyro // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:38

If we choose Taylor over Faye at the back then we truly dont know what we are doing

  • 25 jose enrique fan // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:51

  • 26 A geordiedoonsooth // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:55

Spyro Your the one who doesn’t know what he is doing or talking about. Taylor will become a class centre half. If all you can do is diss the kid I think you should just p*”s off & leave this site to real supporters.

  • 27 Ivan // Aug 3, 2008 at 17:57

  • 32 Geordie SPIDERMAN18 (GG7) // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:18

just let faye go for a reasonable price i think

  • 33 Spyro // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:22

  • 34 Geordie SPIDERMAN18 (GG7) // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:23

    yes spyro

  • 35 Tom // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:24

For the love of all things, keep Faye! He is a better centreback than Taylor, as Taylor gets pulled out of position far too often! Heck, I’d probably take Bassong over Taylor at the minute!

  • 36 Spyro // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:24

cant believe you want to let Faye go, easily our best CB last season IMO

hahaha, tom are you sure your not Spyro pretending to be another blogger?…oh wait, im Spyro aint i :D

  • 41 Spyro // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:27

    @ GS18 (…Sounds like a racist movement)

how much you reckon we could get for him?

I like Cacapa but i would rather lose Cacapa then Faye TBH

  • 42 Geordie SPIDERMAN18 (GG7) // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:30

3-4 mill. good amount of money beings we have cacapa, colo??, taylor, kadar, tozer, edgar, bassong that can all play cb. but if the indian takes over we will have colo and vidic or ferdinand or pepe or anyone we want lol

  • 43 toonwills // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:32

Guys Faye and Taylor whose better.

  • 44 Ross // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:37

ya i think competition is v big between faye and taylor. i think at the moment faye is heads and shoulders ahead of tayls but in coming years tayls will over come faye and will even play for englands senior squad. in my opinion…

  • 45 toonwills // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:37

If we choose Taylor over Faye at the back then we truly dont know what we are doing

    U r right Spyro I 2 would pick Faye.

  • 46 Alex // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:43

Cant believe that people on here are saying let Faye go . That would be stupid , the guy is a good premiership player and with the small squad we have it would be reducing our numbers . We have not got enough Quality players to be able to let 1 leave after bringing a new player in.

  • 47 Michael // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:44

    Robby Bobson
Boumsong did have champions league and international pedigree when we signed him. Neither of those is a guarantee that a player will succeed.

  • 48 9 Shearer // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:45

If we get the 6th richest guy in the world. I want us to remain with Ashely ambitions not going for players who want money hungry, young kids looking for success. KK should remain or not let him go back with his money no one knows us like KK.

  • 49 Crawcrook Pierre in Thatcham // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:52

With just Colo, then we still don’t have much of a squad. We need good competition for places, and Colo/Faye/Tayls isn’t enough. So I still think we will sign Cuellar too. Faye will then be competition for Butt too if he can’t get in the Centre Half position automatically.

is it just me or was this website broken before?
i couldnt post for some reason.
anyways i was trying to think of a striker we should sign and i think it sould be a young, prefrebly tall and strong attacker. arshavin would be perfect be it’s way too late for that now.
can anybody think of anyone like that??

  • 52 anonymussss geordie // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:55

this is my 1st ever comment on one of these sites, and although i agree with a lot of your comments some of you talk some utter sh*@*.
Taylor has the makings of an england great, yes he has his moments where we are all screaming at him from the sidelines, but what you have to remember is he was attracting the attention of the big guns and opted to stay with us. which shows the lad is commited and there is no-one in the team who is as proud to wear the black n white stripes, so all you taylor haters give yourselves a shake, as him and collocini will be like, ADAMS AND KEOWN WERE FOR ARSENAL.

I would like to see us go after Bendtner, he has been average for Arsenal and i think Wenger would let him go now if we offered a decent amount. Bendtner would make great back up and good first team if we can get his confidence back up

  • 58 Toon1978 // Aug 3, 2008 at 18:59

Just been on the SSN forums and its a bloody nasty site to visit some horrible nasty ppl. I was nil impressed with a Man city fan who said good signing for NUFC in Colocinni but he would be away to one of the big four a season later. Hope that doesn’t turn out to be true lol.

  • 59 Spyro // Aug 3, 2008 at 19:01

  • 63 Spyro // Aug 3, 2008 at 19:06

Who would people prefer and why,

Derdiyok or Bendtner? (both would cost around 6million)

  • 64 Toon1978 // Aug 3, 2008 at 19:07

This is the view os some D..k Heed liverpool fan on SSN Forums……………………………………………………………..

    Here it is,

not surprised by this. ashley came with hopes but realised how crap the club is. it is as simple as that. here is a famous quote by barton describing this

“The first day’s the toughest, no doubt about it. They march you in, hand you your uniform and force you to pose for the photographer while loads of fat, tattooed, skinheads shout abuse at you. That’s when you know it’s for real. A whole life blown away in the blink of an eye. Nothing left but all the time in the world to think about it. That’s when it hits home. That’s when you realise you’ve signed for Newcastle.”
    _____________________________________________________________________

i really do feel sorry for the players playign for that club and the owner. they are going down a bottomless pit.

i feel sorry for the next owner for buying into such a crap crap club.

may god have mercy on them

Him and Taylor at CB with Enrique and Beye as fullbacks.
    Lovely!
We need another 2 defenders though!
    Shorey?

  • 66 ScottyT // Aug 3, 2008 at 19:10

wat?!?! go afta bendtner hes useless! tha 2 arsenal playas who i wudnt want bendtner and senderos and ppl want thm. spose its realistic cos ther sh1t for arsenal but y wud we want thm.

i also hv to say taylor was poor last season no doubt bt hes still a gd defender as hes shown in previous seasons. keep taylor. keep faye. gd competition for places on form. imo cacapa luks a liablility at tyms shame cos he lukd very gd in his 1st few games for us.

I would much prefer Bendtner over Derdiyok because he is younger ( if only by 5 months), taller and he is experianced in the EPL; i would think joining us would be a very good turn in bendtner’s career but do you expect he will go from champ’ league at arsenal to last season’s 12th placed team. i know we could fulfil his wage bill and he hasn’t been on very good form lately . i think IF he comes he will be a great signing and keegan could turn his career around. but out of those two deriydok is most likely to come.

Dont put me in the same category as ””’the regular morris dancing, thong wearing, hero quest playing, stamp collecting, ” i think tidly winks is a fantastic sport” ”””’ minority man.

51 times is funny with his comments when he keeps them clean and in general.

But at times he is a bit out of order and he should tone it down a bit.

Dont put me in that category

51 times, think before you post mate ;)

They are nothing but a bunch of sweaty clowns with discharge smelling players and a manager who realy thinks he has what it takes to beat the mighty Arsenal!!!

One flew over the cucoos nest springs to mind when i look at the deluded pack of stinkin cheezy tramps, and i feel no absolutely no sympathy for the filthy, rotten mongaloids! :)

We’ve signed plenty of ‘gems’ at CB in the past ten years, thrown big wages and big transfers at them, so let’s hope this ones a little different for once!

    if it does go through.

    Coloccini expects Depor stay

Deportivo La Coruña confirm amazing U-turn

    Last updated: 4th August 2008

Newcastle United have been stunned as their latest transfer target slipped through their grasp.

Fabricio Coloccini was expected on Tyneside for a medical on Monday evening, however it would appear he never made the flight back with the Magpies squad.

It is thought the lure of a new lucrative contract at the Spanish outfit has persuaded him to stay in La Liga for the time being.

Depor president Augusto César Lendoiro confirmed the news. He said “Fabricio will stay with us now.”

“The offer from Newcastle was a good one, Deportivo can now match this offer”

Coloccini will become the latest transfer target Kevin Keegan has missed out on this summer offer after Luka Modrić and Pablo Aimar.
