One Newcastle player was very proud to make his debut for his home town club Newcastle United last night - 17-year-old striker Ryan Donaldson.

Ryan Donaldson - local lad made debut last night in Mallorca
Ryan came on as a second-half substitute, and he already seems keen for more first-team football.
Donaldson said today:
“I was hoping to come on, but didn’t really expect to.” “The manager told me to get on, and I was really excited.”
“The conditions were difficult, and after my first sprint I was dripping wet.” “It was hard, but great to play against a La Liga team. It was a great experience.”
“They’re a really good team. They pass the ball well and kept the shape well.” “For me, though, that is the sort of experience you want.”
Local boy Ryan Donaldson has already represented the England Under-17s side and is a local lad, just like our other young striker, 19 year-old Andy Carroll.
It’s good that Ryan got a taste of what it’s like in the first team, because the word on the youngster is that he’s one for the future.
He was still a schoolboy at St Cuthberts High School in Newcastle, when he made his reserve team debut last year, on the 24th January at Wigan.
Ryan is a big fan of Michael Owen and Thierry Henry, and the striker, who stands 5′11″ tall and has loads of pace, seems to have a good eye for goal.
Ryan made his England Under-17 debut on 30th July 2007, and scored both goals in the 2- 0 Nordic Championships win over Iceland in Denmark, and he’s been a regular in the side ever since.
Definitely one for the future.
Comments welcome.

says he is flying to newcastle today to do a medical soooo the signing (hopefully) be confirmed by 2moz
2 Spyro // Aug 4, 2008 at 17:52
very happy for him, he certainly looks a decent prospect. Quite pacey and composed.
3 Patrick // Aug 4, 2008 at 17:53
Way to go Ryan!
Let’s use him and Zamblera ahead of Smithy and Ameobi if they are not improving.
4 Christoon // Aug 4, 2008 at 17:57
im glad he’s got a run out. Ive heard great things about the lad. After the last few friendlies KK should have a good idea on the potential of the youth we have in preperation for any injury crisis
5 beye the great // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:06
with any look hell turn out as good as his heros
6 Patrick // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:07
With Aaron Spear, these young lads would probably push Smith and Ameobi out of the stack either this or next year.
7 Tom // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:10
I agree patrick, zamblera and donaldson should definitely be given a shot either against PSV or Valencia, if the big 3 aren’t fit!
8 ende // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:13
spears carroll donaldson
our future striking line?
9 Tom // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:16
Potentially!!

what is happening with Spear though?
12 davetooooooooon // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:22
nice to here young local lads doing well. probly wont play a game for our team next season but in a cuple of years he miit get a place on the bench

I think Baheng has a good shot of making, have to see how he is after he recovers from his injury.
15 Tom // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:29
Yeah I’d be interested to see what happens with Spear.
I don’t know much about Carrol myself, I haven’t seen much of him playing tbh. He works hard by all accounts, seems to get a few in the reserves etc, so I think he deserves the time
16 Patrick // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:30
or
Spear Zamblera Donaldson
…and Wiafe Danquah. Did he get a runout?
17 Ross G // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:32
Dont rate him, he didnt score and was on for 25 mins, he clearly wont cut it. Sell him now, I cant see him pushing Smith out as the number one striker at the club. We still need to make some top signings though, Im glad we are after Senderos a top top player consistant. We should look to add Bramble to that partnership why we ever let him go I dont know. Then maybe look to add Clapham at LB, Halford at RB. If we are lucky we can make a bid for Savage in the middle and maybe look to bring Darren Anderton in from Bmth. I think Clarence Acuna, Christian Bassedas, and Daniel Cordone could be persuaded for a return also. And Massimo Tiabi is available at 5m or Bosnich maybe - Our team next year 442 -
Tiabi
Halford, Brambe, Senderos, Clapham
Anderton, Acuna, Savage, Bassedas
Smith, Cordone
My dream side
18 normski1930z // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:33
here lads has vdv signed for real madrid already?????
19 Patrick // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:35
Are you mad Ross?
You need to lure Taibi and the others from retirement! Or you need a time machine.
Or get KK, Shearer, Sir Les and Ginola back so that we could score!
20 Ross G // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:37
Danquah wont make it believe me. Spear is most likely, and prob the only one of them lot
21 Patrick // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:38
I am just not so sure since I haven’t watched Danquah, but I always thing a pro contract in this young age doesn’t come easily. We’ll see.
22 Ross G // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:39

Smith Ameobi
Benayoun
….and it equals to 0 goals in a season

“24 hr signing”???????????????? C’mon Kev !
38 Toon1978 // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:53
When is Owen going to sign his contract, something else Ashley needs to sort out that is dragging on and on.
39 normski1930z // Aug 4, 2008 at 18:57
toon78 i have been on here saying for months that micheal owen will be watching very closely what is going on and if we do not match his ambitions he will run down his contract and walk bottom line …and make no bones about it there will be plenty of takers for owen on a free.
40 Toon1978 // Aug 4, 2008 at 19:06
Well we need to bring some quality in so Owen can see we are showing ambition and the Coliccini signing i must admit will show ambition IF HE SIGNS anymore new anyone? But the bottom line is i suppose we need to have a little more patience and i am the first to admit i have very little of it. IF we can get Coliccini,Derdyok, and and quality creative midfielder then the impatient fan like myself would be left to eat their words because i have been critical of Ashley.

50 harrier // Aug 4, 2008 at 19:43
haha toon1978 I understand. I want it to be on the official site. However, I have read all the british press and spanish press and there is nothing to convince me he won’t be ours in the near future. He has burned his bridges at deportivo, and he wants his 35k a week pay packet

Yeah very true mate, i must learn to chill and let things take their due course.
52 harrier // Aug 4, 2008 at 19:48
On another note - I think we will move for both Inler and Derdyok and possibly an ACM that the club have been very quiet about. The word on the grapevine is that we are tabling a secret bid for a top quality playmaker

Apparantly an inside source at LA Galaxy have reported that Becham has persuaded Tom Cruise to go 50-50 in buying the Toon for an estimated £280 million …… Amazing news and Cruise is already looking to recruit his scientologist buddies to play and believe they have traced the reincarnation of Jackie Milburn and are ready to sign him on a Bosman from his current club.
Keep the faith…… will have a whole new meaning!

Gonna be disappointing games if we have to rely on Smith for attack, would rather have Donaldson up front, hopefully Oba will make an appearance and Owen should be fit for a bit part against Valencia.
Curlycinni, would be great if he’s ready for Wednesday if not saturday, Bassong will be good to see, Spidey should play also along with Gutherie.
Can’t see any other signings ready for these games but you never know.
106 Danny // Aug 4, 2008 at 22:48
What about Carrol as the targetman? He should be able to hold the ball up well?
And i must say, i dont think we really need to replace either Ameobi or Smith, i think we should reserve those seats for our excellent young strikers coming through the ranks.
There seems to be 2-3 youngster popping into some first time action every year, thats very exciting!
107 Ross // Aug 4, 2008 at 23:27
Danny-i agree about the young strikers looking like they could be real talent, but to be honest i think the only one who would be a realistic selection this season coming is carroll.
i’d much preferr if we brought derdiyok as he’s good enough to start immediatly, an excellent foil for oba and owen.
