Nicky Butt - One Of The Leaders At Newcastle

August 5th, 2008 · 151 Comments

Nicky Butt will again captain Newcastle United in tomorrow’s home friendly with PSV Eindhoven – with the full backing of his manager Kevin Keegan.

Nicky Butt - will captain Newcastle again tomorrow night

Kevin Keegan thinks there is still a lot of good football left in Butt for Newcastle United, and certainly after this summer’s rigorous training schedule, 33 year-old Nicky may be the fittest he’s been for many a season.

Butt was rested by Keegan for Sunday’s defeat by hosts Real Mallorca 1-0, in the Summer Cup tournament.

And with Michael Owen is still out injured, and may even miss out on our first league game of the season, Butt will be back to captain Newcastle again tomorrow night.

Keegan talked to the Evening Chronicle today:

“Nicky’s an experienced player. He’s got the respect of everyone at the club – staff and players alike – and he leads by example.”

“I like that type of skipper. He’s not one of those who shakes his fist at everybody – he just does his job and says: ‘Work as hard as I do’.”

“That’s why I also like Michael as captain. They’re the type of people who are good as captains.”

“There’s Geremi as well – he was captain against Doncaster. They’re good round the group – they care and they help the young players.”

Butt made 37 appearances for United last season, scoring three goals and he’s one of the leaders at the club, along with captain Michael Owen and Geremi.

Nicky has a great character and he’s proved that to Newcastle fans, by the way he has fought back from adversity over the last two seasons.

He has rightly earned the respect of the Newcastle fans, and Nicky will again be a vital player for the black and whites next season, and we’re sure he’ll do just fine for us - once again.

And Joey Barton can take the great example shown by Nicky, to fight back from the adversities he has brought on himself over the last couple of years or so - and we hope he’ll do just that, once he finally returns to the side.
Comments welcome.

Pos his last season…A winning one :-) I do hope he does teach Barton a thing or two but I do remember Butt grabbing some opposition player by the throat a couple of seasons back, hmm.

Butt has generally played well for KK and long may it continue as I can’t see anyone better for his position yet at NUFC :/

  • 4 midlandstoon // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:33

Hope that butt does well but still think we need a replacement. Come on Veloso.

    Whats the crack with Fabrio?

  • 5 Matt Lacey // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:35

Hope he has a good season, especially since this season will be crucial for settling in a long-term replacement, e.g. Guthrie or Barton.

Middle of last season I thought he was playing terribly and that he would be one of the first players we should be replacing now, but I think he turned it around towards the end, led by example and has become a key presence in midfield, we always look more assured when he plays.

  • 6 Penalty-Spot // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:39

by the looks of this Taylor will not make the start of the season!

    Ouch :-)

  • 7 sirjasontoon // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:42

A born leader in the yellow card collecting..all this spin on players is just doing my head in..Nothing against Butt…is there nothing interesting to report?
i.e transfers, spending, targets, ashley statement of intent,a dossier on what the three wise men have been upto?

  • 8 staffsmag // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:45

Slightly off topic - but !!! Has anyone seen the BBC web site saying they are going to be without Rooney, Ronaldo and Nani for the opening game on 17th August. Could be a good time to play them (if there is one) Also as I recall they don’t always start the season really well. What does anyone think ??

  • 9 Penalty-Spot // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:47

Yeh I read that too. 3 down, 10 more and we might scrape a draw. Seriously though we’l have to be sh!t hot to roll over Man U at OT on the opening day. Can you imagine, just imagine if we did, say 0-3. Oh to dream…

  • 10 ObaFan2 // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:47

sirjasontoon, I know what ur saying but Butt did play well at the end of last season, he stood up and was counted and helped stear NUFC clear of relegation, also he played well on Friday too, one of our better players that night.

  • 11 Pete // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:47

Doesn’t matter who they put on the pitch, it’s a sure loss.

  • 12 ObaFan2 // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:49

staffsmag, it could well be a good time to play at Old Trafford, even if it’s just a case of getting it outta the way but I’d love a result there and I do agree Man U are slow starters and KK is usually a good starter………. if ya naa what i mean lol.

  • 13 Matt Lacey // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:50

Hmm, you reckon if we sign Coloccini we might stand the slightest of chances against Man Utd? :) Think… he knows Tevez from playing alongside him for Argentina…

    …nah, we’ll get thrashed…

  • 14 Penalty-Spot // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:51

Pete, Matt I pity you. No such thing as a sure loss in footy. Allow for the possibility old fruit. That’s why we fill the stadiums with our songs.

  • 15 staffsmag // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:56

ObaFan2 - I agree it is good to get it out of the way early in the season. Lesser teams have gone to ManUre and gotten results. I think KK will be able to rouse that team spirit we semed to be lacking so much last season! @ Pete - don’t be so pessimistic mate - every journey starts with the first step !!! :)

  • 16 Punk Skunk // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:56

but if they don’t have their ‘best’ team out, it clearly states in the manure/fa rules, that if we beat a depleated manure, we only get 1 point!..

    …Legend!.. :D

  • 17 micepie // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:57

So what does “Coming Soon” on the official website mean again?

I feel that Coloccini – if it happens – could be a massive lift for us and a catalyst to a further couple of signings in days/weeks ahead. It would also put cheeky clubs like Sunderland a little back in the shade after their peacock feathers outbursts of late.

p.s – I like Butt and I don’t see why he can’t perform well for at least two more years

  • 18 staffsmag // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:58

Punk Skunk - LMFAO :) does it also state that if we are only winning by 1 goal at full time they get 15 mins added time !!!! lol :)

  • 19 Penalty-Spot // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:59

coming soon..you’ve surely heard that before. Someone’s having a good time in the office :-)

No I think the web guys are preparing a story or have just put it there to get more hits.

    I hate the wait!

  • 20 Punk Skunk // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:00

    Totally staffsmag!..
    …You know the ‘rules’!..

    :D

  • 22 51times // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:02

Penalty-Spot - Excuse me, but children read this site, please try to be a bit more mindful of what you talk about.

  • 23 steve // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:03

Hopefully “coming soon” means collo has signed and Everton have coughed up 5 million for Smith -

  • 24 ObaFan2 // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:03

Defo summit happening…….. SSN are just reporting on poor Man U without Roony, Ronaldo etc lol

  • 25 Liffyourd // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:04

a man ure team without ronaldo looses its edge
but a man ure team without ronaldo, rooney, nani and anderson is just great luck

then we’ know were super shit if we still get beat

    :P jk

  • 26 DC Magpie // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:06

    from a reliable source:

KK’s number one AM target is Moutinho!

  • 27 Big Ricks Black Nd White Army // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:07

where is the signings, we need the signings, we simply wont have a good enough squad for the prem season, even if man u are missing players, they will probavly still beat us with there reserves because our team doesnt look good enough at the minute, and where the hell is colochinni, not heard anything over last two days, come on man get him singed

  • 28 DC Magpie // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:07

5M for Smith…now that is optimism Steve

  • 31 staffsmag // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:11

Also just loooked on our official site and we have only lost once on the opening day in the last 7 seasons (2005 / 2006) and that was Arseen’hole away !!! A good omen ??? :)

  • 32 Big Ricks Black Nd White Army // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:12

if it was near the transfer deadline and say colochinni wasnt singed they would get it done on the day, so why not do it quick, they are taking too long over this transfer

  • 33 CRAIGG // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:12

Well even without Rooney, Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson they will still probably play:

    ———————Van der sar——————–
    —Neville—–Ferdinand—-Vidic——Evra——
    ———Fletcher—-Scholes—-Hargreaves——-
    ————–Park—Tevez—-Giggs———–

Ok Lads hows that but i will be quite surprised if they dont sign berbatov, and even without Carrick its still pretty impressive not unbeatable but impressive!

  • 34 Big Ricks Black Nd White Army // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:14

carrick isnt ment to be fit either, just gt bk into trainng

  • 35 ObaFan2 // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:14

Lol Craig just add Berba for the hell of it… why not stick Kaka in there too :)

  • 36 sweendog // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:15

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A39110762

  • 37 Liffyourd // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:16

maybe there’s some truth in DC’s source

maybe its a huge transfer smokescreen, the biggest of its kind
all the while we’ve been in cahoots with Everton is some sort of ‘decoy’ transfer

maybe it was us who bid for moutinho and everton who took the cover, and in return (onces the deals done) we pay them some sort of cash fee to take Alan Smith

  • 38 harrier // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:16

    dammit its gone :( :(

  • 39 steve // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:16

Craigg - personally I think it’s a disgrace that those Man U players haven’t gone to the Olympics to represent thier countries - they are all top class internationals whilst we just have average players and are therefore not obliged to send anyone to Beijing!

I reckon “coming soon” in nufc terms means next week at this rate

  • 40 harrier // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:18

dc magpie i kind of believe you as the grapevine suggests we have been preparing a big money bid for a great AMF

  • 41 ObaFan2 // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:19

  • 44 steve // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:21

Are they having a laugh “Ticket News” - wtf is that about - we want a signing announced and they tell us we can pay on the door!!!!!

  • 45 ObaFan2 // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:21

News coming soon= ticket news for PSV game cos no one wants to go and see our reserves play again !!!1 Or Smith up front !

  • 46 GraemeR // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:22

There seems to be some sentiment attached to Butt - I also feel he has one good year left in him, but this was the case when we signed him and we are still waiting for the consistent display of midfield maestro instead of the running in circles, loosing thwe ball and generally just passing to the opposition which we have all witnessed for too long.

ON A BRIGHTER NOTE - WTF is going on with the signings - I am fed up of voting for yes (is Blah Blah a good signing at X) on this site and there is still no announcments. Are we really that short of money? We need some class in midfield and another attacher (Moutinho and dErdiyok) as a minimum Inler amd Larson would be the icing on a very drab cake.

As for the ‘coming soon’ on the official website - I got exited as I linked to teh page only to find its referring to live video and audio feeds. After teh last two displays you wouldnt catch me paying for that crap - over to you Ashers

  • 47 sweendog // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:22

ObaFan2 .. yep .. thats were wiseys sits on his high chair .. :-) .. so there could be some truth .. mind you I don’t think theres direct flights from Lisbon to Liverpool so you never know..
but for him to come over means its at a very advanced stage ..

  • 48 harrier // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:23

    it was ticket news :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

  • 49 harrier // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:24

For him to come over it means that he has agreed terms and is getting a medical

  • 50 normski1930z // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:25

ticket news was the coming soon….well that just sums it up then doesnt it.

  • 51 Tom // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:25

    http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10278~1358914,00.html

The ‘coming soon’ link is still there, just not on the ‘news’ page itself. Chronologically it should be between the article about Jonas and the one about paying on the door for PSV.

That link isn’t for ticket news or for NUFC TV, I don’t believe.

  • 52 sweendog // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:26

yep .. is it newcastle of everton .. I’ve a strong feeling its everton .. they’ve just sold AJ and now they’ve the money to pay for him.. shame .. I think theres better out there but I would still like to see him at st james.. just any decent AM.

  • 53 GraemeR // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:26

DC Mag and Co - Moutinho has been many peoples No1 target for some time - its just a shame KK and Co only notice a player once he has signed for someone else.

  • 54 ObaFan2 // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:26

sweendog, Everton thought they had £13 million for Johnson and it’s been knocked back and I know Moyes is at logger head with the owners, if they do get him then it’s a good signing for them :(

  • 55 mutoids // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:27

  • 59 sweendog // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:31

well find out tommorrow .. KK needs a AM and he fits the bill … still could be lighweight but would definately improve the current team .. defo worth a punt .. still trying to find something on the portugese sites but nothing..

  • 64 sweendog // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:33

On everton front.. I think the AJ saga is nearly over as fulham have agreed to pay … so unless wise has an ace up his sleeve .. defo going to Everton.

  • 65 Big Ricks Black Nd White Army // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:33

Big Ricks Black Nd White Army .. not sure what you mean .. he’s looking ok for now .. and getting better .. the nearest he would be is a poor mans rob lee .. hopefully that’ll change .. he is still a useful signing..

you still of graft normski, if you are what a holiday ne players signed at al, i’m with hps on the current regime, i think it stinks and i cant see us signing larson, inler etc if we go into next season with the squad i think we’ll have, i dread to think what its gona be like fulham, pompey etc, all investing while we stutter about

  • 74 GraemeR // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:47

In case you cant tell I am fed up with the club - its lack of signings, penny pinching and mostly the lack of communication.

This is the first season that I can remember where I am not optimistic (admittedly it does not normally last too long) but the likes of Fulham, Villa, Porstmouth,Spuds, Citeh, Sunlnd, Hull and everton are all outspending us . If you add the top 4 to that we are currenlty looking at bottom 6 b4 a ball is kicked. Less that 2 weeks to go and we have nnot scored a goal for 3 matched (friendlies used to end up 9-5 etc), our midfield has no flair and we are signing players for tommorow when its today they are needs.
For once our defence appears ok - or is that just relative to the rest of the team. We will find out against PSV

  • 75 Optimist // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:52

Inler impressed for Switzerland at Euro 2008 and, before that, was declared one of the best signings of last season in Serie A, impressing for Udinese as one of if not their outstanding player.

The midfielder has become a Premier League target after his impressive debut season in Calcio, Arsenal have been the club chiefly linked with a move for the 24-year-old, as they look to replace Mathieu Flamini, but Newcastle United have also been mentioned as a club in the running for his services.

Agent Dino Lamberti insists offers will be considered - if Udinese accept - and that the Premier League is an exciting proposition.

He intriguingly revealed that neither Arsene Wenger nor Arsenal have been in contact for the midfielder, but that English clubs - more than one - made brief inquiries.

  • 87 M. Stockley // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:28

agreed, ppl sayn that were missing players is no comfort, what happens if they get injured again? pre season has proved we have no strenght in depth and some poor squad players…..we need big changes and guys not im not criticising ashley for what he’s done so far in terms of clearing debt etc, but when it comes to transfers he must shi* or get off the pot! the only way we can be taken foward is to spend and if it turns out we are working on several top deals on the quiet and we pull off a few suprises i’ll put my hands up and apologise!

  • 88 craig chisholm // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:30

its all a load of crap. every single player has now been praised at our club too bloody much. its their way of deflecting from the claringly obvious - we have no where near enough quality to challenge - our challenge will be keeping in the prem alone at this rate. still no arron spears deal either and coluccini deal seems strange - his club are reporting on thier web site that he has now left - why have we not made the announcement yet? you think he’s gone else where - the spuds maybe?

  • 89 normski1930z // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:34

  • 93 mozza // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:43

what happens on here is you get some really opinionated clever s***es that think you cant have an opinion if it does’nt match theirs, on the injury front your’e dead right, we could end up with a team that just never looks like scoring, we were miles behind pompey last season they invest heavilly, we dont, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that they will therefore move even further in front of us, but its the teams that were near the bottom that have invested that worry me, our squad was p**s weak last season, i reckon we needed 6-7 good players in minimum and we’ll be lucky if we sign 3

  • 94 M. Stockley // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:45

dc magpie dont mean to harp on but can you tell us anymore about what youve been told?

  • 95 normski1930z // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:51

only problem is dc mag is that time is rapidly running out and i for one are getting really worried that time will be up and we dont get in what we so desperately need….the transfer window has 3 weeks and 4 days left and counting.

  • 96 mozza // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:54

could do with tom toon coming on telling a few tales of what he’s getting up to in spain to lighten the mood a bit

  • 97 Hong Kong Ron // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:55

“Slightly off topic - but !!! Has anyone seen the BBC web site saying they are going to be without Rooney, Ronaldo and Nani for the opening game on 17th August. Could be a good time to play them (if there is one) Also as I recall they don’t always start the season really well. What does anyone think ??”

As well as the 3 players you mentioned, Carrick (virus), Park (inj) Hargreaves(inj) and Anderson (olympics) will all be missing as well.
We might keep the score down this time :D

  • 98 ToonEskimo // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:57

He’s probably splashing around the pool with his armbands on…

  • 99 mozza // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:59

you could get inler, larson, cisse etc and the whole mood would change ticket sales would go through the roof and the team would be in a much better place by the end of next season, higher up the league and if ashley wants to sell then a damm sight more attractive to potential buyers, so why not invest ffs

  • 100 normski1930z // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:00

well wor lass is making a thai green curry downstairs and av got a little smell ov it and that has put a slight smile on my face if nowt else….

  • 101 DC Magpie // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:03

    LOL @ Eskimo

Mozza u really want to hear what Tom Toon is doing on holiday? yikes! or do you just want an interesting story? if the later…http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/03/sports/soccer/03soccer.html?ref=sports
    $2500 well spent?

sorry Stockley no more info (maybe on Thursday)…on a completely different note…I for one would love to see a Great Britain football team playing at the 2012 Olympic games. Anyone else?

  • 102 mushy // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:06

    Good evening gentlemen!

Hey Mozza, I think you have the germ of a good idea there…
Ashley makes the team more successful, therefore makes it more attractive to potential buyers, therfore makes a shed load of money or..
Ashley buys nobody, team goes down, investment down the toilet, loses even bigger shed load of money.
Now which course of action do you think our billionaire owner is more likely to take??

  • 103 fraser 2k8 // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:06

Be great to see Coloccini signed in the next few days but once he’s been signed up who’s next and we will have just over a week, mind who’s this player who we’ve put before per cijan skeljbred(spelling)?

  • 104 mozza // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:06

normski thats just sickened me even more, a love thai green curry, trouble is on the food front am not saying wor lass is a bad cook but she uses the feckin smoke alarm as a timer

  • 105 toonbully // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:07

Normski , does yer lass dee tekaways like ??

  • 106 Oba // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:08

If we moved quickly for these players and didn’t dally around, then we would have them. People like Inler, Modric, Aimar. The more we wait the more chance there is for other teams to come in for them, as has happened with the last two, Modric and Aimar. Could happen with Inler as well, if he goes Arsenal.

  • 107 kajman // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:08

hello to you all. 1st time ive made a commit, just like you all, i sat and watched the last 2 games full of hope that we might turn things around from last year.but on the perfomances sofar, it looks like its going to be a long hard season.no goals is very worrying for me.we need to bring in a forward that can ad some musel up front ,we are far to light weight,we do need more signing and quick,,,

  • 108 Spyro // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:08

    LOL @ mozza

  • 109 GraemeR // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:08

Just had A Rogan Josh meelf - who says us geordies arnt cultured

  • 110 Howie // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:09

fraser didnt anal oliver not write that article on per skjelbred. wouldnt believe that very much. i have a bad feelin once we get coloccini and prob left back that will be it for signings even though we desperately need CM And probably CF in my opinion

  • 111 Spyro // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:10

we weren’t after Aimar, we just enquired and never followed it up.

Modric, no one knows, everyone has their own version of what happened.

Finally, no one knows if we are even after Inler, the story came from southern press.

so that leaves…oh thats right, no one!

  • 112 GraemeR // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:11

Announcing signings to appease fans - hmmmm excuse me if I am wrong but is that not a FF trick. PSV will be no push overs and if we play like the last 3 ganes we may get a whooping - roll out a ’star’ player at the start or interval and everything is tickety booh

  • 113 normski1930z // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:11

dc ,i’d take any kind of tale at the min if it takes me mind of who wer’e not signing, your’e right though the lack of tranfer activity must be melting me brain, mushy whats your take on ashley and co

  • 117 Spyro // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:14

    @ GraemeR

its a shame Farfan aint there any more, i would have loved to have seen how Bassong, Enrique & the rest would have coped with him. He was the closest thing to a premiership quality forward/winger they had.

  • 118 chuck // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:14

Butt, played decent last season unfortunately he is 33 and close to retirement (hav`nt forgot the FA cup final against Man. U)
A Muotinho or Veloso would be nice for the next ten years, let Butt back him up this season.
The modern EPL game is tough on players, finely tuned athletes who play what could possibly be too many games, resulting in lots of injuries.
Some managers realize they have to almost platoon players if they are to last the season and that means at least two players for each position, which in turn means larger squads and larger wage bills.
    Just a fact of life.
Dont forget KK & MA we have decided we want either of the two guys mentioned above, its non negotiable, kidding !

  • 119 fraser 2k8 // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:16

Howie, yes i think you are right, though we need a CAM and CF for a more attacking approach, and a Creative midfielder to make Newcastle a bit lively. I’ll wait and see.

  • 120 mozza // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:18

normski me pals just came back from a month in thailand, reckons it was magic, photos look belta a wouldn’t mind gannin mesell

  • 121 mushy // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:20

OK boys, here’s something to argue over (as if we needed anything):
Assume we get Collicini, and we can only have one additional quality signing.. where and who?

For my money it has to be a real class Centre Midfield who can read the game, spot the pass, and drop the ball on a sixpence. Somebody like Riquelme, Hoddle (showing my age here), Brooking (there I go again), Arteta or Fabregas.
    Waddyathink?

  • 122 Spyro // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:21

i would buy a CM/DM, someone like Diaby from Arsenal or Skjelbred from Rosemborg

  • 123 normski1930z // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:23

aye mozza the thing is it is more expensive than say going to spain for flights but all round living in thailand is much cheaper….

  • 124 normski1930z // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:24

@ mushy veleso coz we need protection for our back four coz we leak to many goals…

  • 125 mozza // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:25

might not be the biggest name but i’d love larson from brum, great engine and good set pieces, which is something we lack

  • 126 normski1930z // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:28

plus mozza there is a small set of islands in the andaman sea which was where i stayed when i was working out there called koh phi phi, which believe me is probably one of the most beautiful places on the planet and i want to retire there..

  • 127 kajman // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:29

any news on Collicini signing? or are we going to miss out again..thought bassong was very good the other night ..better than taylor?

  • 128 mozza // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:29

aye your’e reet there a went to cyprus in may and it cost a fortune, if a worked it oot it would probably have cost less all round to go to thailand, food for thought for me next hols i suppose

  • 129 Ross // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:29

lets get real, and realise that no, we’re not going to sign moutinho.

  • 130 mushy // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:30

@Mozza “… my take on Ashley and co”

I think Ashley is first and foremost a businessman, with no allegiance to Newcastle whatsoever. I think he’s looking to make a profit and have some fun and success on the way.
So whatever his financial motivation is, if that brings silverware then I will sing his praises from the rooftop. The downside is that he will sell-out at the drop of a hat, irrespective of how bad that might be for NUFC.
In short, mixed feelings, this season will be a bumpy ride, but then again that’s nowt new at the Toon.

    Howay the lads

  • 131 DC Magpie // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:31

Seriously Arsenal must have one too many CMs on their books’ no? Diaby would be swell.

    Hey Normski,

I was talking to a lass who’s just bought a house in Thailand, right next to the King’s palace. She said it’s absolutely fantastic, but I can’t remember its name. Any idea?

  • 134 mozza // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:35

lovelly people as well not called the land of smiles for nowt, that place sounds magic pal, a reckon wor lass would be up for gannin as well, she’s sick of the cost of food and drink in european resorts

  • 135 normski1930z // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:39

mushy is the lass british??? and secondly the king has about 4 palaces in thailand 1, bangkok 2,hua hin , 3 sukukthai and a holiday home on the island of koh chang…

  • 136 Tom // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:40

Jees Spyro, don’t do things like that! Thought we had actually made a breakthrough!

  • 137 mushy // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:47

    Norm,

Hua Hin rings a bell but I wouldn’t swear to it.
She said it’s beautiful with not a scrap of litter or grafitti.
She’s Scottish, owns resthomes, pretty well off and bought 2 properties with plans to do up, rent out, holiday there and maybe eventually retire there herself

  • 138 Spyro // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:48

sorry tom, i just had to, didnt get much joy tho, disappointing :D

  • 139 normski1930z // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:57

mushy if she is not a thai national she cannot own any property in thailand all it will be is a lease unless she has the property in a thai nationals name(very iffy) and the longest lease you can get is thirty years but at the end of it you own nowt plus when you work out there all you get is a thirty day visa then you have to jump over the border to say malasyia or cambodia and get another thirty days if yas understand where am coming from….

  • 140 mushy // Aug 5, 2008 at 20:00

    Norm,
She didn’t go into that level of detail, she was just keen to let me know she had property around the world. Your info is very useful, I might just ask her 1 or 2 little questions next time she’s bragging. Thanks

  • 141 Timberhead Toon // Aug 5, 2008 at 20:02

A pre-season game tomorrow not many tickets gone. Unvail Colocinni, Bassong and another signing (wishful thinking) at around 2:30 and hope the tickets fly out of the ticket office.

Yeah I maybe clutching at straws big time but I’ve nowt else ta dee

  • 142 normski1930z // Aug 5, 2008 at 20:05

nee probs mushy just remember tho SHE CANNOT OWN ANY PROPERTY IN THAILAND IF SHE IS NOT A THAI NATIONAL—–FACT!!!!

  • 143 mozza // Aug 5, 2008 at 20:11

@mushy your’e right we should be used to bumpy rides by now, back on later lads need to spend some time with wor lass and the bairn, enjoy your curry norm you lucky ba***rd the best a can muster from the kitchens a tin of irish stew, bollocks, not my day today

  • 144 craig chisholm // Aug 5, 2008 at 20:15

norminski……….not quite right about us not being able to own a property in thailand if you are not a thai national. We can own a condo over there in our own names mate, its just the actual land we can not own. an appartment is no probs. Also another way round it which many are now doing is forming a limited company… you can own you own villa if you have your own limited company.

  • 145 mushy // Aug 5, 2008 at 20:16

I’m off as well. The missus rented Bucket List and she says I have to watch it. I wonder if there’s a hint in there somewhere.

    See y’all later

  • 146 normski1930z // Aug 5, 2008 at 20:30

craig ya right in some respects but going to lawyers in thailand is very dodgy for a falang at the best of the time, believe me mate my wife is thai and these things go alot deeper than that you are right about limited companys and but rais of land will double in price the minute they see a white face, i for one would never go down that road coz av seen many ppl get badly ripped off and left with nothing but good luck to you mate….

  • 147 normski1930z // Aug 5, 2008 at 21:24

also craig i have just told me wife what you have just said and she burst out laughing mate and said if she had a baht for every time that had been said she would be a very rich lady, now we have 30 rais of land just outside of korat which we own not leased…we own the land mate not the condo or flat etc… what happens if you buy a condo and the man who owns it comes along and has a better offer??? where do you think that will leave you… ill tell ye majorly out of pocket, thais will always beileve a thai over a falang mate…FACT thats all i am saying when i lived in thailand i watched ppl get serious money taken from them and there is not a bat in hells chance of getting it back….but like i said in my last post good luck …also like i have said many times on here corruption is alive and well….there are many lawyers out there who are just sitting and waiting for ppl who think they know the laws…all i will say if you are thinking about it be careful very careful.

  • 148 Beastie // Aug 5, 2008 at 22:24

man united without nani, anderson, rooney, ronaldo, hargreaves maybe

  • 149 craig chisholm // Aug 5, 2008 at 22:50

normski………i have no intention of moving out to thailand, i just pass through it often with work. i have loads of mates that live out there and a fair few own their own villas and have bought condo’s etc. most of them have gone through the ltd company route. i know of one mate that managed to fall out with his thai missus and still keep his villa too. I am well aware of the coruption out there, its rife. i know of a few that have lost their arse too on deals. even right down to the small stuff, like when you hire a bike and the shop follows you and knicks the bike back. leaving you with a new bike to fork out for. there are so many tricks like you say. we CAN own a villa though as a farang, there are ways as you obv know, better than me too i would guess.
