Today’s Toon Transfer Talk On Tyneside

Newcastle United are set to complete a move for Deportivo La Coruna defender Fabricio Coloccini within the next couple of days, according to the majority of today’s news – but that’s also been the top news for the last three or four days – so what’s taking so long?

Fabricio Coloccini – hopefully will arrive on Tyneside soon

  • It’s claimed that the 26-year-old is due on Tyneside for a medical some time this week, ahead of a reported £8M switch (that fee changes all the time) from the La Liga side.
The sooner we get this lad wrapped up the better, and hopefully we can get him playing in the Valencia game on Saturday.
  • The Daily Express is reporting that Everton manager David Moyes is weighing up a bid for the only fit Newcastle striker Alan Smith.
But the report says he would only offer £1.5M, and we will hardly sell for that price.
If we do manage to bring in 20 year-old Swiss striker Eren Derdiyok, look for both Ameobi and Smith to be moved out quickly before the end of the month.
  • Reports in Switzerland   today suggest that Gokhan Inler’s agent agent is in London to meet with Arsene Wenger.
The report says basically (if you can’t read German) that if Arsenal fails to sign Alonso from Liverpool, it is said that they will go for Inler.
Wonder if that means if Arsenal sign Alonso, Newcastle can get in tghere for Inler? We have no idea quite honestly.
Appreciation to one of our readers, Elfer, for sending us the report this morning – and translating it.
  • It also looks like the one Premier Club that has bid for Reading’s left-back Nicky Shorey is Portsmouth, and not Newcastle.
We’re not too sure who Kevin is looking to bring in for the left back spot, which is the next highest prioirty once we tie up Fabricio.
Could still be Stephen Warnock from Blackburn (£4M), or the Argentine Inter Milan left back Nicolas Burdisso (£6M) from Inter-Milan. We’ve also been linked with the Algerian Lens left-back Nadir Belhadj (£3M).

That’s the current news on the transfer market today – let’s get Coloccini, Burdisso, Inler and Derdiyok to Tyneside – and then we’ll be in excellent shape!

Comments welcome.

This kid is a tremendous player. Just didnt quiet get his game at AC MIlan, but has been a rock for Deportivo all season. I would class him as a faster Gabriel Heinze…..and harder too.

Well done kevin, just 4 more signings, like Innler, Derydiok and a creative midfielder and we are set…..

will bite Moyes’ hand off to get rid of smith right away. 1.5 m is more than a decent price for a hopeless player like him. then give away Shola for free. with another 3m lets get Derdi!
why do we need Burdisso? average defender. prefer Shorey on any day, or even that Algerian LB on cheap 2.5m(?) as cover …
that Inler link, just go on and on, maybe more realistic to swap Milner for Lennon or SWP. hopefully pace, trickery and overlap on the wings to make up for the lack of quality thru the middle. given our tarnished status and MA’s tight budget it’s not easy to get a good creative ACM anyway …

    next few weeks:
    Smith – everton – 1.5 million
    ameobi – hull – 760k
    Inler – £10 million
    Pander – £7 million
    Lennon – £7 million
    Baptista – £10 million

    Our Champ’ league squad:
With this squad i think we could challenge arsenal, liverpool and tottenham for the champ’ leugue places and maybe win the carling cup (or its newly named equivalent)
All this for under £35 million
Come on cashley, you don’t get a nickname for nout.

I’ll say it again, are our comedy duo of player recruiters out of their depth? Trouble is, it’s NUFC that’s drawing the laughter, not them.

Remember when KK nipped in and got Rob Lee from under Boros’ noses, sneaked in Shearer, Ginola et al? Come on fellas, Inlar’s out there for the signing.

If you’re not up to the job, leave it to someone who is!!!

burdisso isnt even a left back, hes a CB who has played a t left back, we need a specialist left back cos enrique has looked very poor once again lately. and iv gotta disagree ed i dnt think we’ll be in excellent shpae with those players, i think we need more than tht on recent showings, we are desperate for and attacking creative mid, the four players you mentioned plus moutinho may be enough to get top 8

Inler is not DM or AM, he started as an AM and has been moulded into a CM that defends and attacks equally, similar to Cigarini etc

Arsenal are rumoured to be looking at De la Red, Alonso, Moutinho and Veloso, depending on which rumour you listen to. Either way, if they sign one of those, maybe we have a shot at Inler.

I agree with comments others have posted though, with a young striker (derdiyok), a creative mdifielder (Inler, Skjelbred etc) and a left back (Shorey/Warnock etc) coming in after Coloccini, then the squad will start to look good, and the usual pre season trepidation will ease slightly!!

Why will he be here “sometime this week” he should of arrived after lunch at Newcastle wise and Kev shows him around the city and stadium, go down to the medical place and finally sign under the dotted line before 5pm why is it going to take a week which by the way gives them less time considering how slow they have been to. Get players in, so looks like coloccini will be our LAST signing.

Kev must be under pressure from the guys upstairs, there will be possibly one more signing this year which will force Kev having to push the academy youngsters through the ranks, low cost scenario. Tut tut!!

My money is on that KK and Coloccini have been distracted by potential hair product endorsments and once they’re done they’ll announce the signing.

Hopefully the fact that we have such a numerous transfer dept. will mean they all aren’t tied up signing Coloccini.

I have refrained from commenting on this website for a while, the reason being that while i support Newcastle United & always will we have become a club that IMO has no ambition, not to mention that our current squad is a joke. This season is the first season that I truly believe we have no chance of being successful. Mid Table mediocrity or Relegation battle is the best we can hope for given our current situation. Upon further analysis of teams such as Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth, Manchester City I have came to the conclusion that they have a better squads (probably better Chairmans & Managers also).

Owen,Viduka,Smith,Duff,Barton,Butt were all at some point in their careers thought to be very good players & while some have shown they still have some ability they are all not worth the money Newcastle United is paying. For one reason or another (lack of ambition, to much money, lack of passion, Injuries, age) these players are not what they used to be. Newcastle United should follow Tottenham Hotspurs example & make drastic changes for the betterment of the team & replace them with a core of young & athletic players who still have the drive to achieve something in their careers.

David Edgar will never make it he is simply another Peter Ramage who will eventually be playing Championship football. Bassong & Guthrie are not the required quality needed if we are to progress. As good an understudy Steve Harper is (& that’s all he is IMO) I think we should cash in on him & getter a younger understudy.

Nzogbia clearly does not want to play for Newcastle so I would get rid & truth be told his progression as a player has slowed at a time when at his age is most of the times determines if you are a mediocre player or a good player. Milner is in the same boat as Nzogbia excluding the not wanting to play for NUFC. Enrique just does not cut it either.

Our squad needs drastically overhauled & out of the Current squad i would only keep the following:-

Given, Beye, Faye, Taylor, Geremi, Gutierrez, Martins, Krul, Kadar, Tozer, Lua Lua

Given – Loyal & very solid keeper.

Beye – Great natural physical attributes plus he knows this is probably his last chance to make some good money before he has to hang up the boots hence the reason why he played consistently well or at least put in a decent performance.

    Faye – See Beye.

Taylor – Local lad that has potential & a good player a present

Geremi – Seems humble & is a good Squad utility player.

Gutierrez – From what I have seen from him looks a very good player plus bring much needed creativity & freshness to the team.

Martins – IMO our Prized asset

My team would be the following which i know will never happen:-

    Beye…..Coloccini…..Taylor…..Jonny Evans

    Turan…..Faye…..Gokham Inler…..Gutierrez

Subs – Krul, ???, Geremi, McGeady, Derdiyok

This is just my opinion plus i releise i may have left out some youngsters but ive just done this of the top of my head.

rite i think we ave got colo in the bag (lets hope):) but we shud also put in a bid 4 shorey, that norway midfielder skjielberg or sumthin ,burdisso, derdiyok , inler, n maybve reyes/baptista…… i no it will be hard getting all of those players but wats the worst that cud happen!!! we need numbers!!!! abd if we dont get a few players in soon then we will just ave to go lookin round the streets 4 people who can kick a ball . and we cannot sell smith because if we did that wud mean gettin ANOTHER youngster in the team . tell me if u thik the same 🙂

I thought Bassong was done and dusted, he seems to be playing a lot of games for us, or is it all still on a trial basis.
There must be dozens more like him in the French and other leagues. If this R-Squad is so good why are we not seeing them.

    Tis is how i see it. The delay for the Collocini move could be;
    1. That NUFC are waiting for the Depotivo chairman from Venezuela to give us a go ahead for him.
2.NUFC were waiting for KK to meet him and the guys came back yesterday from Spain.
3.Its the takeover bid that is delaying us.

Blackburn looks set to capture Anthony Annan from Norwegian club Start. I’ve seen a lot of Annan this year and I must say I’m impressed. He is a modern DM and looks to be sold for 2 mill. I think this would be the signing of the window if the price is right. He’s the perfect age and really motivated to prove himself on higher level. For those of you who don’t know who he is, he’s a regular in sentral mid with Essien in the Ghanesian national team. KK and Ashley get your fingers out. We need this player, especially if the Inler-saga doesn’t come through!!
