Our new signing Jonas Gutierrez says he cannot wait to make his home debut against PSV Eindhoven at St James’ Park tomorrow night.

Jonas Gutierrez - cannot wait to play in front of Newcastle fans
We would expect Keegan to start Jonas tomorrow night against Dutch powerhouse PSV, and the Argentine international has already showed he has lots of skill to bring to the Newcastle team next season.
Jonas also works like a Trojan during the games, so he will no doubt be a big favorite very soon at Newcastle.
Gutierrez has also made a big impact already with his team-mates as well as the coaching staff on Tyneside, and it forced Kevin to say that it’s as if the lad has already been at the club five years, he seems so much at home.
Jonas is a popular player, and he got a great reception and hordes of well-wishers while in Mallorca, his old club.
Jonas talked to the Evening Chronicle today about his excitement at potentially appearing before the fans tomorrow night:
“I cannot say how much I am looking forward to playing at St James’ Park for the first time.”
“We have some good games coming up against PSV Eindhoven and Valencia.”
“They are both technical teams and it will be good for me to get familiar with the home stadium.â€
Gutierrez was so popular in Mallorca with the Spanish media at the ONO Stadium, that cameras were flashing all over the place when he appeared wearing his new famous Newcastle United colors.
Speaking about his trip back to his former club he said:
“It was good to go back to Majorca and see some of my friends.”“I wanted to go there and help Newcastle win something at my old club.â€
“I wanted to play as soon as I got here.” “I had to wait, but that moment came on Friday night and it was a good experience.â€
“The aim for us is to do much better than the last season. I know that already. “We’ll look at it match to match. But I look forward to next season a lot.â€
This boy seems a born winner, and we’ll be able to take a good look at him tomorrow night at St. James’ Park - and we hope his Argentine team-mate Fabricio Coloccini has signed for the club by then.
Maybe Fabricio will be introduced to the crowd, much like Habib Beye was last year, and the Senegal International went on to become Newcastle’s player of the season.
Maybe that will be a good omen, but we need to sign Coloccini first!
Comments welcome.

Fantastic. Lets just hope that attitude rubs off on his team mates. Oh and why is that ref showing him his arm pit…weird.
2 staffsmag // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:22
Maybe he can point Smith in the right direction to goal !!!! LOL
3 Steve T // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:23
I liked the look of Jonas against Hertha Berlin. With our striking problems i’d like to see him play more central just behind the striker. i think he could do well for us there this season.
4 m. // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:24
he looks like my mate joão paulo
seems to be a good player. best to him.
5 Penalty-Spot // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:27
I haven’t seen him play yet…how does he move the ball around? Does he command/get in to space, track back, cross well? I imagine a more agressive Nobby, is that wide of the mark?
6 CRAIGG // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:29
His movement was good against Hertha but his crossing was a wee bit poor but that is only one match and until half way through the season i will reserve judgement the same with bassong who was getting some ridiculously premature comments the other night.
7 sirjasontoon // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:30
But early to judge him yet hope he does well and think he has a good attitude.
where is this 24hour signing..or any signings for that matter…sick of all this big up,spin poop.

i heard from friend who in fairness sometimes makes stuff up that everything was being completed with colo at 3.oopm today. dont take my word for it though
13 Tez131 // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:33
How good would it be if we done a mass unveil of 3 players, that is why Coliccini deal looks like it is taking ages.
Coliccini, attacking mid and a Striker or
Coliccini, Defensive Mid and an Attacking Mid…
That would fairly lift the morale. Sadly unlikely…
I would of hoped Coliccini would have been signed yesterday and was able to play on wednesday to get used to the rest of his team mates.
14 Howie // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:34
haha sorry meant signing.
15 Graham // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:34
Staffsmag - Alan Smith wouldn’t know where the goal was if it was lit up with fairy lights with neon signs flashing “GOAL THIS WAY”

he seemed quite skillful strong with a lot of pacenot as much as say oba but definately our 2nd fastest playern i guess you could say like ronaldo only without the goals and tricks though he is skillful and works a lot harder and isnt a complete tit
19 ObaFan2 // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:37
Looking forward to seeing Jonas play tomorrow as he did well on Friday.
Shame it looks like Smith is gonna be playing again ! No Owen, No Oba, Faye? Beye? We’re gonna be playing a good side and hope we make it a good match.
20 sirjasontoon // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:37
TEZ my morale has been smashed over the head with a hot frying pan…
Want some transfer action..depth,quality,no more kids,fighters,playmakers : (
21 Spyro // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:37
i thought he was a breath of fresh air against berlin, his movement was good and he has confidence on the ball. Doesnt do too much and plays a pass instead of running around with his eyes on the grass.
22 Tom // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:37
Steve, I wasn’t trying to encourage people so sign up to nufctv (doesnt appeal to me either!) what I meant was this looks like it could be a forerunner to the announcement of a signing!
23 harrier // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:38
better be ready to make another article ed - seems like something is pretty imminent
24 Tez131 // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:41
I am a member of the NUFC.co.uk
no futher news on the NUFC TV side when you log in.
Hope this ‘Coming Soon’ is used to announce a signing and not something else.
25 ObaFan2 // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:42
lol ur so optimistic
Hope ur right though
26 Spyro // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:44
im also a member, i like watching the player interviews and little gimmicky things: such as; each player naming their hardest opponent, proudest moment etc. Gives a good insight in to the type of characters we have in our squad
27 Punk Skunk // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:44
Aye, looked good v hertha…Popped up all over the pitch, great off the ball, & tracked back, full of running, always looking for options!..
28 Chris F // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:45
lol it’s just a placeholder page that newsnow seems to have picked up for some reason, calm down boys.
29 harrier // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:46
Chris F - a place holder page that is at the top of the news headlines - and has only been added in the last hour - which means there is a story developing
Try clicking on HOME at the top Chris F and you will see or just go to straight nufc.co.uk
30 Eyeball // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:47
Wheres Tom Toon Gone????
31 Tez131 // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:47
@Chris F
Hoping its a place holder for the new page they are creating with an anouncement of a new signing.!.
32 Spyro // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:47
harrier - is the expression ‘clutching at straws’? im not exactly sure
33 Spyro // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:48
tom toon is on holiday in spain
34 ACD // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:49
I was impressed with gutierrez, he looked pacy, a hard worker and likes to get at players. He often looked for a one two but some of our players wernt clever enough or good enough to give him it back. I hope he plays just off alan smith 2moro night, with duff or zoggy on the left.
35 harrier // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:51
Spyro - so
I am just thinking they are about to announce that barcelona has decided to swap their entire squad for ours
36 Tez131 // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:52
I think that page is just being used for testing the site, there have been issues with the video play back on the member pages and they now have a Test page on the member news area.
Hope I am wrong…..
37 Tom // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:53
Hush Spyro, have a little optimism
Lol.
38 Punk Skunk // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:54

no punk skunk - i logged into nufcTV and it sent me to a video that doesn’t exist yet.
42 Punk Skunk // Aug 5, 2008 at 16:58
Ok, fair enough!..
…I dare not believe…

Its now saying:
”
Coming Soon…
This new section will appear shortly. Please check back later.
“
44 Marcus // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:09
Jonas has excellent movement off the ball. He likes to play 1-2 passing and play off guys. He’s got pace and tricks, just wondering if he has the fitness to go like that 90 mins. He looked winded in the second half, we’ll see. Definitely a higher class than Zog or Milner.
45 ObaFan2 // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:11
Jonas did look a little classy and we got from the bargain bin
46 JonGoodwyn // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:15
well it says ‘test’ on the site..
Lets hope its a signing or 8 though
47 Tom // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:18

48 JonGoodwyn // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:19
http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsIndex/0,,10278,00.html
As i said - just a bit of an anti climax
49 Tez131 // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:27
Seems it was a bit of false hope.
Story is :
Ticket News: PSV (H) - Pay On The Door
NEWCASTLE United fans will be able to pay on the door for Wednesday night’s home friendly with PSV Eindhoven…….
Unfortunatley no new signing.
50 Tom // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:28
Is it though? The link doesn’t direct you to the ticket page, it still sends you to a different page!
51 hitman // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:30
no one get any info on coloccini deal
52 Tez131 // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:36
Tom - I think they use that page ‘Coming Soon’ until they then change the link to the new page.
In this case they used that link to alrt people of a new page then they switched the link to the
“Ticket News: PSV (H) - Pay On The Door”
news story.
53 Tom // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:40
Ah, shame, thanks for clearing that up Tez!
54 hitman // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:41
anyone on here get the feeling the coloccini deal has went pear shaped.
55 irish_toon9 // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:44
im getting the feeling it has aswell…fsl…knew it wudnt have been a signing on nufc.co.uk but still feel disapointed
56 Tom // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:45
Nah, I don’t think it has at all tbh. It was always going to take a little time. : ) Its still happening, dont worry!
57 Tez131 // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:46
No problem, I can’t say I am disappoint at how we are keeping negotiations so quite at the minute. It stops others having the change to know if there is a problem and sneak in.
I am just worried about how long it seems to be taking for us to close the deal on Coliccini.
Hope we have some news on it before game tomorrow evening…
Just seems to be dragging on. Hope like with Gutierez we have been making progress with other targets and the press just don’t have a clue who it is until unveiled.
58 Howie // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:49
deal is done. my mate says its 100% certain. they wont announce it till 2moro afternoon before the game. he might even be paraded at st.james 2moro night
59 hitman // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:51
i hope so howie
60 Tez131 // Aug 5, 2008 at 17:52
Howie - cheers for the info, can I ask how your mate know this?
Cheers
61 Chris F // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:03
jesus wept, rome wasn’t built in a day.
there’s a lot of I’s to dot and T’s to cross, the lack of patience some toon fans seem to have amuses me.
the guy has said he’s coming, the deal’s widely reported as being as good as done and just requiring finalisation, chances are, if anything, we’re stuck waiting on the Home Office giving him a work permit before announcing it.
62 irish_toon9 // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:06
@Chris F
“there’s a lot of I’s to dot and T’s to cross, the lack of patience some toon fans seem to have amuses me”
Does Woodgate/Modric/Aimar not spring to mind?
Is it any wonder people are concerned?
63 Chris F // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:10
if we’ve been after coloccini for months, as the club and players agent have actually said, i doubt it’s all going to have fallen apart just because he wasnt announced as a newcastle player the second we knew about it.
good grief.
were we ever even in for Aimar? did we even make a serious bid for modric? Keegan said modric was a good player, but then he was asked if he thought he was, that doesn’t mean to say we were willing to break the bank for him like spurs were.
I’d rather we got good players in on good contracts, rather than just throwing cash at them like we used to, wouldn’t you?
it’s only since the internet became more popular that this impatience has crept in. Transfer windows don’t help either. It’s not like transfers used to happen any quicker 15 years ago, you just didn’t have constant access to new media streams like you do today, where people have grown to expect a fast flow of info, and when it doesn’t come, they get impatient.
He’ll be signed as soon as the deal is done, people moaning and speculating on here isn’t going to alter that, so why bother?
64 hitman // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:14
chris did colo not agree personel terms a while back..
65 irish_toon9 // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:19
So your saying it takes months to purchase a player…it seems quite a long time.
I agree good players on good contracts and def not through money at crap money grabbin players though
66 Chris F // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:21
there’s a difference between agreeing terms, and the contract being finalised and ratified.
he’ll have needed to have a medical, if he only flew in yesterday, chances are that was left til today to do, then the contract will have to be gone over by all parties concerned, agreed upon and signed.
i’m not sure if he’s an EU passport holder or not, which is why i said that could be another holdup.
there’s plenty of red tape to be gotten through, i just don’t think people need to start worrying just because he’s not been paraded around st james’s park in an open top bus.
transfers take time, sure, some can be done quickly, but that’s rarely the case when it’s a foreign player coming to a new country.
it could even be depor holding it up because lendeiro is in venezuela and not in spain, who knows?
i just think the extreme paranoia some people express on here at times means they need a bit of a reality check.
67 Chris F // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:23
well, irishtoon, it certainly can do, obviously.
not every deal is the same, some can drag on a bit with negotiations, but it doesn’t mean theyre not progressing just because you’re not being dripfed transcriptions of every conversation that’s taken place behind closed doors about them!
68 normski1930z // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:28
transfers take time- which is something we are rapidly running out of.
69 No Hands // Aug 5, 2008 at 18:37
I’m fairly sure Coloccini has an Italian passport.
70 irish_toon9 // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:03
Yes hitman…terms were agreed last week..fee has also been agreed so it smells funny that the signing hasnt taken place as of yet… also with bassong i dont think he has officially signed either…think the staff on that side of it arent doing there job properly in fairness…
71 irish_toon9 // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:04
And Yes he also holds an italian passport so thats not the hold up waiting for a work permit
72 Howie // Aug 5, 2008 at 19:06
tez zorry for late reply. he wont say. he just told me to trust him on this one.
73 CDN MAGPIE // Aug 5, 2008 at 20:27

74 Marty // Aug 5, 2008 at 21:37
IRISH TOON,Bassong said himself that it was a delightr to sign for NUFC so i think thats all done n dusted.
He wouldn`t be allowed to play so many games otherwise if he was still with another club.
75 Marty // Aug 5, 2008 at 21:40
CHILL OUT TOON FANS;i think its gonna be a week b4 we get anyone announced.
Like all of you it`s been iritating going on here 10 times a day n seeing no changes, but we will all be happy soon with several signings being made in the space of a couple of days
