Late news tonight on the Deportivo official web-site that target Fabricio Coloccini has indeed signed for Newcastle United.

Fabricio Deportive – Deportivo reports he’s signed for Newcastle
This is good news at last, and it seems that at least one of the clubs involved is saying that it’s now a completed deal and that Fabrico is a Newcastle player.
It’s not really official until our own Newcastle web site reports it, but we think he must have signed on the dotted line for the Spanish club to put the news out.
Fabricio becomes out 4th signing this summer for the Tyneside club, and the most expensive.
It looks we are paying around £10M for him, so we didn’t get him on the cheap, but hopefully he will play his part in the new Newcastle revolution under the maestro Kevin Keegan.
A statement on the Deportivo’s official website read as follows:
“The Argentina international is, starting from tonight (Wednesday), a Newcastle player,â€
Coloccini will be the second central defender to join Newcastle this summer, with 22 year-old Frenchman Sebastien Bassong having already signed from Metz last week.
This is breaking news and obviously there should be more news on this tomorrow.
Comments welcome.

Oh my god he’s had his hair cut off!!!! this is disastrous news. As everyone knows every squad needs a player with really sh*t hair (See pic Ed has chosen so well), with his hideous curly locks I thought he was the sort of player we’ve been lacking since Venison and his mullet, but now? It should have been in his contract to keep the long hair!!!

i was there tonight and did anybody take note that steve mcmahon was in the crowd tonight. i had it confirmed off 4 people, plus it also stated on sky sports news as breaking news so i was informed. there is definately something in the water here. a consortum is not going to turn up for a pre season game if there is nothing in it.
thought the lads did ok, shame about the defensive errors which cost us the win, geremi looks well out of his depth, beye is just getting back into it, made a cracking tackle first half. guittiez was outstanding, best player on the pitch. for them, they had the dutch kid ilfrey i think he’s called, very quick indeed. still though, it needs some more quality in the team/squad. lets hope we get it.

53 domtoon // Aug 6, 2008 at 11:57 PM
Didn’t see the game but looks from reading the updates like we played well, apart from letting up towards the end and pulling a draw.
Don’t know about you guys but I’m going to be quietly confident about our new signings. Gutierrez sounds the real deal on the wing, Bassong seems industrious AND skillful, and Danny Guthrie seems to be having a good preseason, putting a few goals away for us.
Colo should be the icing on the cake but hopefully, just hopefully, we will get another couple of world class signings in the shape of an attacking midfielders and left back. If we get a third player after Colo, hopefully it will be another striker cos Shole and Smithy are not favourable options to our 3 main CFs!
Top 10, fingers crossed…

yeah there is defo something going to happen shortly like. if they were not interested in the club, why turn up to watch. mmmm!!!
shay made a great save in the first couple of minutes, apart from that and picking the ball out of the net twice, he did not have a lot to do, yes, another error by enrique, cacapa, cost us 2 goals, but plenty of pluses as well. they are champions of holland and are champions league standard. a think i wud have either baines or shorey, but something has to be done quickly. plus more quality needed.

just like to add as well, the police were a right bunch of idiots tonight. they were chucking people out for having some fun during the game. stewards also, the ground was empty, people wanted to watch the second half from the gallowgate end, watching us kick towards it, yet they stopped people from going through. everyone had paid the same price for tickets etc, so why the hell people were stopped is a mystery. not very good if you ask me.

i know most of u know these answers but for those who dont..let me clear it up:
smith has a knock and that is the only reason he has not played tonight… everton have not made an official bid yet
McMahon has never watched the club n just wanted to know why other directors wanted tp takeover. but he has said his co,pany will not pursuit a potential takeover n just came to watch the game.
and colliccini was training with his club earlier today and has been finalising things with his agent in deportive. n thats y he didnt get aannouced today. he was not in the crowd today

92 ObaFan2 // Aug 7, 2008 at 12:40 AM
TT, especially 2nd half Spidey he did real well down the left and got stuck in and got through a few times and that cross in the first half by him was just waiting for a ” Shearer” to head it goal bound.
93 ObaFan2 // Aug 7, 2008 at 12:41 AM
Taylor got motm at the stadium
he did ok but Spidey, Beye and Butt were beteer imo.
94 Colo's Curly Locks // Aug 7, 2008 at 12:42 AM
the reason gutierrez is such a strong, quick runner is because he runs with such long strides.
although hes not as quick as oba, for every 2 of oba’s steps, gutierrez only needs one
95 AndyNUFC // Aug 7, 2008 at 12:43 AM
Spidey had a good game, Beye looked a little off his pace against their speedy winger but graft was good as always. Butt had a decent game, nothing outstanding. Taylor really staked a claim to first team tonight. Strong in the air, won every header, just an all round good display.
96 Tom_Toon // Aug 7, 2008 at 12:44 AM
Yep Colo, i love his running style, good to watch.
Andy – Suprisingly he played well today, so did Cacapa, Beye and Enrique werent great though.
97 Tom_Toon // Aug 7, 2008 at 12:46 AM
Taylor still dwells on the ball to long and in the prem he’d get punished for it.
98 ObaFan2 // Aug 7, 2008 at 12:46 AM
Most tired tbh but thats what the pre season games are for, to get up to match fitness and up to match pace. Much better than last weekends games.
99 AndyNUFC // Aug 7, 2008 at 12:47 AM
Like I said, thought Beye was just a little off pace but I think we can let him off. Bassong should really have started left back IMO. Cacapa should not be put in midfield this season though. Gutierrez is very clever on the ball, his touches take the ball deceivingly far, so the defender is drawn to it, but close enough so he can take another touch and go past.

Worked all night, but a good result, good to se Colo 99% done, and nice to hear our signings are doing so good!
And they probly have the press conference in La Coruna because it´s close to Portugal, there for they can put Quaresma on a train over the border and fly both him and Colo to tyneside togather, and save a furtune of MA money!
When we are on Galicia… I have a summer house there in Cambados. If you guys like wine, try theres, realy good!… i´ve heard… =) Drink more San Miguel when down there…
116 Tom_Toon // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:28 AM
Galicia is too wet!
117 Spyro // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:28 AM
Coloccini is as good as done guys, and i for one am very relieved as it was dragging on a bit.
I truly dont know who the other two players are now, but it sounds as though one of the two is likely to sign. (im going by KK’s comments)
118 Colo's Curly Locks // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:29 AM
Toon Tom
WHAT?! Your going to split 9 lads?
lol. only joking
119 Spyro // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:29 AM
TT – Napa?
120 Tom_Toon // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:30 AM
I was thinking of Bulgaria too, somewhere with really cheap alc.
121 Spyro // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:31 AM
i have been more than impressed with all of our signings so far, especially Bassong who looks a right steal…come to think of it, so does Guthrie…oh…and Jonas.
122 Tom_Toon // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:31 AM
Spryo – Nah, too mainsstream, too many english people.
123 Colo's Curly Locks // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:32 AM
prague?
124 AndyNUFC // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:33 AM
Well TT, i’ll tell you that you’ve definitely not picked up this gem called Bassong on your football radar, calm, composed, strong, athletic, old head on young shoulders.
125 Tom_Toon // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:34 AM
Nah, gotta be on the coast, don patcularly want to go to Prague for 2 weeks/10 days, way too long.
126 AndyNUFC // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:35 AM
TT, bollocks to mainstream, go to Amsterdam and live every night like it’s your last.
127 Colo's Curly Locks // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:35 AM
how about la coruna? lol.
128 SwedeEric // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:35 AM
TT
Never been in Split, but Croatia. And if you havn´t been there, you realy should go!
A place I realy liked last year was Rodhos! Great party, nice place and truly warm! Also went to Alanya in turkey, be awere, not good party, and not a nice place to be!
What you also should think about is Miami or Vegas! Since the dollar is worth bloddy nothing, well, the pound is heading the same way atm, it´s realy worth the money now to fly over!
Don´t realy understand when we talk about 3 players in… it´s always LB first… and then maybe a CM and a striker… We have Enrique, who I truly like! Bassong and Zog can play there to. A attaking midfielder and a Shearer typ of player is more important imo. If Viduka, owen and Martins were injured free it wouldn´t, but tbh that will never happen during a long time! Enrique doesn´t seem to be a player that brake down all the time at least!
Don´t get me wrong, a LB would be good, but would like to se an AM and a striker before..
129 Tom_Toon // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:37 AM
and wear a Newcastle top with Coloccini on the back
I will go to Amsterdam eventually, not for 2 weeks though
130 Spyro // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:37 AM
Im going Miami next yr
131 SwedeEric // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:39 AM
Yhea Galicia is not the best place to go for a week of sun… But during summer it usaly nice, no turist, true spain and relaxing for a week or two. Have place in Gran canaria also, and there is always hot! To many turist thou, and only scandinavian and brittish.
132 Tom_Toon // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:40 AM
I have been to Miami, but when i was about 12
with my rents, got a mild case heatstroke and i was only there 24 hours!
133 AndyNUFC // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:40 AM
I went to Oman once slept in the desert, fruity bongs with some German blokes and me grandad haha
134 Spyro // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:41 AM

Well, thats what my friend said anyway
135 clinta // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:41 AM
How good really is this guy? it’s seems he spent most of his time at deportivo loaned out to other teams?
you don’t normally loan out your best players do you?
136 Tom_Toon // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:42 AM
I was thinking also of Sines or good old Lisboa.
137 Colo's Curly Locks // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:42 AM
rejkevic!!!
im not joking here. remember seeing summat about it on tv…..coz they get no night time n they jsut party all night (or day….as the suns still up).
138 Spyro // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:43 AM
Clinta rest assured, Colo is class, we will build our defence around him
139 Warwick Hunt // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:44 AM
@Tom _toon
Maastricht
140 Tom_Toon // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:45 AM
Colo, funnily enough you mention that, i am going to Reykjavik for 4/5 days in 12 weeks time, pints there are £8 though and cheap wine (dont drink wine but ill tell you anyway) is about £20/£30 per bottle at lowest.
Clinta – Deportivo never loaned him out, AC Milan did.
141 Spyro // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:46 AM
TT, Salvador? I have wanted to go for about 4 yrs but haven’t been able to due to Uni etc, im probabl going to go the yr after next
142 Tom_Toon // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:48 AM
Spyro in Brazil? or El Salvador near Guatemala etc? I think both are a bit out of the way and i dont want to spend too much getting there and for accomodation.
143 Spyro // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:52 AM
was talking about Brazil but yeah it is quite pricey aint it. I have so many places i want to go to, Jamaica, Brazil, Miami. Ever since watching Lost in Translation i have had my heart set on Tokyo aswell. I dont know how i plan to fit this all in.
144 Tom_Toon // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:56 AM
Aye, i really want to go to Jamaica but the whole compound thing how they lock you down at night in most places and i dont own a gun to out to the bars of Kingston at night
I could probably go somewhere much safer in Jamaica but i dont want to spend that much.
Sines and Split are my main choices at the mo, i’ve been to Tunisia or a fews times and its great although my mates arent keen.
145 Spyro // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:57 AM
hmmm, my last suggestion would be Rhodes
146 Warwick Hunt // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:58 AM
MAASTRICHT
147 Spyro // Aug 7, 2008 at 1:59 AM
Are any of your mates women? If so, my sister went to Tunisia and said it was horrible, and that the men look and treat females like pieces of meat lol
Less bad mouthing of Kingston please, as i have two uncles and a step sister who live there
148 Tom_Toon // Aug 7, 2008 at 2:07 AM
Thats what we are mulling over. Most of us want it to be all lads.
No to Maastricht, i want a beach and im not a culture vulture
149 SwedeEric // Aug 7, 2008 at 2:11 AM
Reykavik is crazy place to party! If you have the chance, go to Iceland! Been there, still have friends who lives there. It´s a bit diffrent from england to go out thou, in sweden we go to the pubs around 00:00, you start around 18:00, but in reykavik you will be alone if you are out before 02:00.
Not only the party is great there, but the country. You wont find better looking girls anywere! (even better than swedish) The country is awsome, Blue Lagoon is unbelivable, and to be in a place were you wont se a single tree, and exept for there small horses, they don´t have a single loose animal.
150 Spyro // Aug 7, 2008 at 2:11 AM
all guys is better, not a sexist pig or anything, but with guys its all just simple fun, women bring an added element of responsibility to the trip lol
151 Tom_Toon // Aug 7, 2008 at 2:14 AM
I shall be going to Blue Lagoon, dont think there will be much partying going on in the old geography expedition
A few of my mates were talking about Italy. Maybe Rimini, im not keen on Bari or Naples.
152 Tripp // Aug 7, 2008 at 2:50 AM
Miami’s a fester pile of sh^te. But if you like Cuban food there’s only one place better (and that’s arguable)…
153 PapaToon // Aug 7, 2008 at 3:29 AM
Taylor is the only one who can speak english in our backline. I reckon that might be a problem. Communication is the key in the backline.
Thats why our defence was better with woodgate in it.
I hope Keegan’s got Taylor, Harper and Given learning Spanish
154 MDS // Aug 7, 2008 at 3:36 AM
SwedeEric-
So true about the dollar. I live here in the states and had been planning a two week Euro vacation (including a possible side trip to SJP for the first time in my life) but due to the exchange rate have had to postpone. I’ve met more English, Italians and French thissummer than I did when I lived over there. All coming over to shop on the cheap dollar.

156 Jerry McGuire // Aug 7, 2008 at 6:27 AM
Why is everyone so keen to seel Smith? Is he that worthless to the club? Well, if we have a strong squad like Manure / Chelski, then I support your decision. Look at our current squad. Geremi, Butt and Harper already mentioned we need to increase player. So before we get a new quality player, why do you all asking for Smith’s sale?
157 WesToon // Aug 7, 2008 at 7:55 AM

What’s this crack about us being in for Moutinho?
164 Chicken // Aug 7, 2008 at 9:27 AM
TT – there’s a lovely resort on the South East coast of Cuba. Really cheap – you won’t have to pay for any food or drinks and they even provide you with your own colourful uniform. It’s run by a really nice bunch of American’s – just phone up the United States government and say you’re a friend of Osama’s – I’m sure they’ll welcome you with open arms!
165 WesToon // Aug 7, 2008 at 9:34 AM

166 Gorskino10 // Aug 7, 2008 at 9:49 AM
TT you could go good old Lisbon and watch a Sporting Lisbon game,if not Germany, Turkey or Sweden.
167 Stardust // Aug 7, 2008 at 9:56 AM
Tom Toon – Ive been to Split – what kind of crowd are they and what do you want? Personally I would start at Dubrovnik for a few days and nights (Stay in Cavtat – a cheap speed boat ride to the Dubrovnik late bus /taxi / boat back)and then head up to Hvar via a ferry from Dubrovnik or further up the coast (an island – go to Hvar Town – drink isnt cheap at the main place Carpe Diem but its class (St Topez style). Everything from cheap apartments you rent when you get there to 5 star hotels. You can get the fast ferry back from Hvar Town to Split then fly back home from there.
168 JOeT // Aug 7, 2008 at 10:30 AM
Yeah Tom_Toon mate. Iv’e been to Croatia a few times, i was there last summer for a few weeks travelling around with a few mates!
Ive been lucky enough to travel to some pretty amazing countries….but Croatia is up there with one of the best! Characteristic town, cobbled back streets, ploished marble floors, has the class of many italian towns but still not as expensive – hence why they all go there on hols!
Stardust summed it up pretty well, so i’ll keep it brief! But dubrovnik is a must (in the south), Hvar is lovely, as is Bol, on the island of Brac! Korchula is also nice, split is good but doesnt have the same prty style atmosphere as the other islands. All great for watersports, football, wind surfing, tennis, food’s of a pretty high standard (very italian – given its location), beers are sweeeeet and cost about a pound a pint in most cafe’s, bars are slightly more expensive but much much cheaper than over here, women are the fittest ive ever seen – where i met my current girlfriend actually!
Hope this helps, drop us a line if u need any more info and i’ll put it in an email!
