Geremi – We Don’t Have Enough Players

Cameroon’s experienced International and Newcastle’s former captain, Geremi, has today said what many Newcastle fans are well aware of.

geremi-343.jpg

Geremi – trying to bring in more players next week

That’s the fact the Tyneside club don’t have enough players to mount an attack on the upper reaches of the Premier League next season.

Geremi is rightly concerned by the lack of strength in depth we have right now, and is personally keen to see additional new faces before Newcastle United begin their season at Old Trafford on Sunday, 17th August.

Jonas Gutierrez, Danny Guthrie and Sebastien Bassong have been the only new arrivals at St James’ Park this summer so far, and Coloccini is expected to come in within the next day or so. We’ve also let 5 senior players go this summer in Emre, Ramage, Carr, Rozehnal and Diatta.

Kevin Keegan has wisely resisted the urge to overhaul the squad he inherited from Sam Allardyce, when he returned to the Tyneside club in January.

Geremi said in The Sun today:

“We don’t have enough players,”

“We hope we are going to get more next week.”

Newcastle were linked today with Congo DR and Toulouse left back Herita Ilunge, and we think Newcastle will bring in at least 3 more players in addition to Coloccini, by the end of the month, but that may still not be enough.

What do you think about this?

Comments very welcome.

    1. No Newcastle players should ever come out with statements like this to the media. Only our Captain (Owen) should speak on behalf of the team/club.

    2. Geremi is lucky he is still here. Can’t run, doesn’t track back, and is the worst crosser of the ball seen in black and white for many a year

Ends up becoming a bit of a joke when numerous members of your team are going to the press and telling them we’ve got a paper thin squad doesnt it?..its it a cry to ashley to do something? who knows.
on the other hand, like a few have already said..maybe the lack of numbers would benefit geremi because if we kept on signing, one of them would definitly be someone to take his place, haha.

james u were not complaining when harps and given were saying the same thing so why is it different for geremi??

once we get in colo we need 3 maybe 4 more after that

lb, am, st or a creative winger who plays everywhere in midfield

get in shorey, arda, fernandez and baptista and we would have a quality side

james you are 100% right, Geremi is the worst set piece taker i think i have seen. I remember watching the game vs Birmingham on setanta last year, and he punted each corner into the first man without fail. Im not expecting brains that could change the world, but surely your smart enough to change it up! either way he is a free kick cretin that needs to be upgraded

ok, if you take a look at who has left and who has come in i think we’re much better off this year than last, the players that have left will have very little impact on our season

carr – like playing with a man down – wont be missed

rozenhal – left after xmas and certainly wasnt missed

troisi – only played pre season friendlies – wont be missed

ramage – cracking lad but was injured most of the season and tbh, really wasnt up to the job – wont be missed

lamana diatta – who?? we signed for 4mnths him and he got very very few minutes on the pitch – will not be missed

emre – injured most of the season, didnt really give us another dimension when he did play and certainly wasnt the player we all hoped for – wont be missed

we have signed 3 decent looking players so far..

guittarrez – 1st team player (we havnt lost a 1st team player really)

guthrie – 1st team/1st 15, good quality squad player that will get used quite a bit imo

bassong – looks quite useful already (although i know rozenhal did this time last year) but will be a valuable member of the 1st 15

collocini..??? well hopefully its in the bag and he will be signed sealed and delivered very soon, another quality addition

now if we can get 1 more quality 1st team player we are in a much stronger position than we were this tim last year, if we can get 2, then we are flying

take a look back a year and can you believe we were actually looknig forward ot a season with that fat sam in charge!! jeesus christ, hindsight is a valuable thing

and if any1 had told us keegan would have been in charge this year we would have had them locked up and took away to the loony bin (but god would we have took it)

i think things are looking far more positive than this time last year and the quality of or squad is still very good

    keep the faith lads 🙂

u guys are fickle! he was part of the reason we stayed up last year, has give his all and helped with the african players to settle in.
ok he might not be the best player but he never shirks a challenge or will hide like a certain player ( a. smith) i fink hes gud to have a round the squad and is willing to play in multiple positions, which with our squad is more than usefull

James – you took the words out of my mouth. Only the manager and / or club captain (owen) should speak to the media about the strengths & weaknesess of our playing squad.

Taylor and one or two others had a knack of spouting rubbish to the press last year. You don’t see Man Utd’s players speaking to the press week in week out (love them or loath them they are the benchmark to which we should aspire to) so why should our playres think it’s right?

Keegan should put a stop to this as it’s only giving the shandy drinking southern press more ammunition to shoot at us with.

Really you don’t say. You swear, he’s a wee bit slow to be honest. Only after our 2 keepers saying it, Owen saying it, Keegan saying it, us saying it, he then steps in with all his wisdom and..parrot talk.

Not the brightest of lads is he.

I’m shocked geremi said this as he will have even less chance to get in, but it’s obvious we need
Players KK knows this bit he chose the wrong time to take a holiday when he should of signed asharvin and arda, now he feels the presure as he has dwindled and left it too late we will buy Coloccini and one more probs midfielder ok last day of transfer Market let’s hope with the expanded bench allowed Zamblera on it to show him skill he is atleast better than smith and ameobi.

It actually really pisses me off that a player with such experience as Geremi, who has, as it’s easy to forget, played at Real Madrid. He is terrible, shocking, one of the worst buys ever. He is neither good enough for centre midfield and due to our new formation does not have enough creativity to warrant a strong claim to right wing. He’s even slower than Milner.

    “We need more players”

Well Geremi, i’ll tell you what, if you bucked your f***ing ideas up and pulled your finger out along with a few others maybe things wouldn’t look so bleak. Geremi, we’re buying players to replace you, not to play alongside you.

if you look at our squad there isn’t anyone with pace (except oba and n’zog) or creativity (maybe duff 3 years ago).
milner/ geremi/ butt/ barton/ guthrie/ smith and gutierez are all grafters but all lack flair, pace and creativity.
of our midfielders barton is probably the most capable goalscorer and thats saying something – we need to get someone in asap

It just shows page 2 and won’t go to page one.
Would be nice if it was due to a new story being announced but I doubt it, probably just a page error…

I’d like to canvas the opinion of some of our “fans” on here because I’m really confused about who it is ok to show support of without getting shot down in flames.

    From what seems to be popular opinion it’s not ok to like;

    Owen
    Butt
    Geremi
    Taylor
    Milner
    Smith
    Viduka

But it is ok to like…

Barton – cos he’s a charver just like the rest of us and has fights and chins people and drinks beer and stuff.

Oba – cos running around like a headless chicken can be attributed to passion and trying his best.

Bassong – cos he’s done nowt wrong yet.

    Spiderman – read for Bassong.

Bit fickle aren’t we us Geordies? 🙁

I agree again he swung a wonderful cross in for Owen to score against the scum and chipped in with a couple of goals towards the end of the season AND he’s right!!

On a seperate note (and I hate doing this cos I know people will jump up and down and say link link) I’ve got it on good authority that following Rangers shock exit last night we’re gonna attempt a sneaky bid for Carlos Cueller of around 4 or 5 mil. I’m not saying that it will be accepted but he is being targeted although the Mackems are also sniffing around

Owen – Not worth his hefty price tag but this may be the season where he shines. Lay off him I say, he had a couple of horrific injuries and you could say this season is his make or break. Very very expensive though, but then, it IS Michael Owen
Butt – Getting on a bit now, criticised in the past but has since shown his true grit and does possess plenty of skill in our midfield. My mate has met him at one of Manchester’s golf clubs and from those few brief encounters says his a right moody git, but on the whole, pretty sound. I see no reason not to like him, other than as with the rest of our squad (as in it’s not soley him), he has not, of recent, performed to his full potential.
Geremi – I agree with the chap above about his inconsistency. He should have taken the captaincy by the balls and inspired the players to greater things but, well, we all saw what happened there. Needs to shut his gob and not talk to the press about such things as a light squad. WE KNOW ALREADY.
Taylor – Criticised for making lots of mistakes and talking to the press but hey, he’s a Geordie so it’s okay! In a nutshell, raw talent which soons needs to translate to refined talent. Like Owen, I think this is his season to shine, especially with the likes of Coloccini and Bassong coming in to challeng a position which seems permenantly defaulted to Tayls (although I would argue through circumstance – in my opinion, he’s the best CB we got).
Milner – Eh? Don’t see any probs with Milner – he’s the reliable workhorse who is reasonably consistent and gritty in his play. Talented, but the question is, will he get any better? You could argue when compared to others of his generation (e.g. Rooney, to whom you could argue he was at one time on par with), he has not fulfilled his potential. Needs to get his shooting boots on a bit more as well!
Smith – Useless, boring, headless chicken, who does to be fair do alot of running. Needs to somehow regain his (long)lost form. Maybe a bit of a scapegoat but whenever I’ve seen him play, I cannot really think of any defining moments, let alone goals. Again, played out of position but should really contribute to the play more. Seems to only ever go sideways, never penetrating the opposition’s defence. Very frustrating to watch, and some would argue waaay overpaid.
Viduka – always crocked but I like the guy. Used to be class and could still be this season. Is aging however and that is showing, but at least he scores goals now and then, and more importantly can hold the ball up well for Owen and Martins
Barton – Bit of a thug on and off the pitch. Brought the club into disrepute, but it’s one of those weird personality/character things why some of the fans still like him. I certainly can’t explain why I still like him. I think the fact KK has backed him is also a factor. Does work hard, runs alot, good passer/tackler of the ball, and showed he is capable of contributing alot to the squad by the end of last season. If he can turn it around, he will prove many many people wrong and could very well become a bit of legend. But alas I’m afraid that is unlikely. If he’s not banned, I’d probably want him on the bench more times than not.
Oba – Don’t you dare say a bad word about Oba – he’s a legend!!!! Don’t need to say anymore.
Bassong and Spiderman – Give them a chance everyone starts with a clean slate and the Toon Army like to give their new players a big welcome! Bassong looks good, and Spiderman comes highly rated, so we will see.
