Keegan Wants Three New Players In

Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan is still hopeful Newcastle can get three new faces in before the end of month, and that will make six new players in total.

Kevin Keegan – hoping for 3 new players within next 25 days

Kevin told the club’s official website today:

“I would still like to strengthen and I’m confident we’ll bring in at least two, possibly three, more faces,”

“And if those players are of the quality of the likes of Gutierrez and Guthrie then we’ll take our chances.”

One of these players will undoubtedly be Coloccini, so we wonder who the other two will be.

We need a left back, so we fully expect one of them will be somebody who can play in that position. And we are still short in central midfield, so we’re still hopeful Kevin will bring in a play-maker, before the end of the month.

Keegan added:

“By the time we play Valencia on Saturday, and then Manchester United a week later, I would think we will be pretty much full strength, apart from maybe Mark Viduka,”

“If everyone was fit, and I know in a perfect world that can happen but not always in football, we’ve got a strong, quality squad.”

We’d like to see Coloccini in, then a left back, central midfielder and striker – so that’s four we’d like to see brought in.

And we wouldn’t mind if we get that striker in, that Smith and Ameobi both leave before the end of the month.

But if it’s only three that are coming in, then we can see Alan Smith staying, and only Ameobi moving out. and no new striker coming in. 🙁

That will also mean that the number in the squad is about the same as last year, since five senior players will have moved out, and six will have come in – and that’s not too good.

One last thing, have you noticed that Kevin keeps changing the number of players he wants to bring in?

We need as many as we can get in, so our squad is bigger and also has more quality than last year.

What do you think?

Good to see Kevin saying 3 faces now – not long left but he obviously knows we need a few players in! I expect a CB and LB, then will it be either a striker or CM?

    Howay the lads!

I agree completely, i still feel we need another 3 as well as Coloccini. Ideally, Smith and Ameobi should both leave, with one striker (that swiss forward?) a creative midfielder (Inler?) and a lb (Shorey?).

he he he, Spuds do seem to steal our targets regularly!!! Coloccini, Shorey and Benayoun – all 3 for well under 20 million. Add a striker and we are good to go.

guys its a longshot but what about Afellay, he will probably be on show tonight and he fits the bill of what we are currently after. Young, versatile (plays AM/RM/LM).

Would take a lot to get him from PSV, 12million plus, but he is a player who shined in the Euros when he played but hasn’t been mentioned thus far. If we were smart we would try and nick him on the sly eh.

    Opinions?

Benayoun? It would fit with the habit of buying players that can’t cut it at top 4 clubs. I would love Moutinho, but it doesnt seem we are interested in him. Also, Veloso has told Sporting Lisbon he wants to leave – surely he would be an excellent buy?

spyro, i was just thinking that when looking on the nufc website. Affeley looks a great prospect. I like a lot of the dutch players they are all so technically gifted.

while we’re at it with affeley, why not go for de jong (hamburger SV) and Roysten Drenthe from madrid (he can operate LB or LM) and would be an excellent player, he completly outshone every other young footballer at last summers U21 championships. I’ve heard recently heard that madrid want to get rid of. He ribust style would suit the prem, im sure

    Jeez, only 3?!?

I don’t see why we need a LB so much more than we need a striker, a CM or even a 2nd CM after that!!!

I can think of 4 players that can cover at LB. However, if Guthrie gets injured, or Butt needs a rest; or as seen, Viduka, Owen and Martins are injured (very likly it could be 2 at the same time), we have F..K ALL cover.

A new Left Back would be more of a luxury than a necessity in my opinion, compared to other areas in the squad.

Yeah a few of us have mentioned Affelay and he would be a great buy but I think we have as much chance of getting him as I have of catching that pig which keeps flying over my house.

There are still quite a few gettable players out there. Even some golden oldies such as Juninho.

ED – no offence but where is your basis that Benayoun can’t cut it? He played well there but he will be in direct competition with Gerrard and Alonso and Prob Gareth BArry. HArdly an easy task. He is a top pleyer and would fit in our team superbly. Moutinho, Veloso? I think you forget where we are in our progress here. Let’s get real a little and look at players who would improve our squad – not world class players who aren’t interested. We need strngth in depth so our bench has options, then KK can get us up the table. This time next year we might be able to tempt even better players.

Just wondering, what formation dya think we’ll be playing next season – 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 with two wingers? That will affect the players KK wants to bring in, but i think that another cm is needed either way, one good enough to be able to play in a 4-3-3, with less support. For that reason, i don’t know if Inler would be the best choice. Opinions?

I think we’ve all settled on the fact that we need:

    Coloccini
    LB
    CM
    Striker

We would still have little cover for RB but Geremi can cover, especially if we bring in a CM, then we have:

    New CM
    Butt
    Barton
    Guthrie

so that’s prob. fine as well..

There is one thing that is really conserning me at the moment!!! We havent got a quality CM!
We have good strikers with Martins, Owen (if he’s not bloody injurd) but the problem is, we dont create chances for the boys upfront…

look at Danny Boy. He’s new in The Squad, only played a couple of decent games for Bolten, then we have Barton who is gonna be banned for some games… Gerremi is old, slow and playing his second last, or maybe his last season as a first starter. We Need a center Midfield player!!!
Maybe we can get Inler, but that will be an expensive buy. I hope The backroom Staafff of Nufc are worth the money they get payed… If not it will be another heart breaking season of Mid Table Football..
Sorry for my sheit English, im Swiss.

    Look at Fat Sam’s signings:
    (0-5 Ratings)
    1 Smith – 0 ( why 0?… I can give 1000 reasons..not enough pages)
    2 Viduka – 2.5 ( an injury prone player)
3 Geremi – 2.5 ( too slow but he played in every match we won last season and one of the reason we survived)
4 Barton – 2( Discipline problem but played well at the end of last season)
5 Enrique- 3( Makes mistake and still improving )
    6 Rozehnal – 1 ( Waste)
7 Cacapa – 1 ( Error prone and never recovered since the 1-4 home loss to Porstmouth)
8 Faye – 4.5 ( One of few best buy last season)
9 Beye – 5 ( Player of the season last season)

Look above guys…in fact we only bought 4 players (Faye,Beye,Enrique and Geremi) last season and not 9 players we think…this shows Keegan has spend the money wisely so far

I agree with Carlos, a lb is not a priority over a creative midfielder and a tall striker! We can’t let our creativity depend solely on our wingers, and we are very weak in the midfield if anything happens to Butt or Guthrie!

i dont think a striker is needed at all we have 3 boarder line world class strikers smith as an emergency, carrol and good attacking wingers. just need some stability at the back and a top class play maker in the middle and we’v got geremi guthrie/butt as midfield squad players

I think we’ll revert back to a 4-4-2 this season most likely diamond. We’ve got too many out and out wingers now not to play with at least 4 in the midfield. Unless Kev wants to be ambitious and try and Barca style 4-2-4 which would be an interesting thing to try. Don’t know where Viduka would fit in either of those formations though.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we alternate between 4-3-3 at home and 4-4-2 away though.

    Edit:

Why would be sign Cuellar and Coloccini? We would then have too many CBs really.

Matt – there will be Gerrard, Barry – when he signs – as first choice CM players. Keane has a chance to be played in midfield which is Rafa’s usual lunacy, along with Babel, Kuyt and Alonso is still at the club. Not to mention a certain fella called Mascherano. Benayoun has been heavily linked with Roma so is a very realistic target.
