Newcastle made a good start to this game with two goals in the first eight minutes, as they caught the visitors flat at the start of tonight’s game at St. James’ Park.
It was an excellent corner by Geremi and well put home by Taylor, who not surprisingly was delighted with the goal.
After eight minutes good move by Newcastle involving Steven Taylor, Geremi, Milner and the Guthrie resulted in another goal.
Taylor broke well and fed Geremi who played in Milner, and James saw Danny Guthrie to his left and laid the ball off and with consummate ease, Guthrie hit his second goal of pre-season coolly past former Manchester City goalkeeper Isaksson.
PSV then started to come back into the game and after 32 minutes they pulled one back, although it wasn’t a particularly good goal for Newcastle to concede.
The ball was played down the left hand side and Beye probably should have cut it out, but the ball got across the goal and went to young 17 year old Peruvian Manco, who dispatched the ball nicely into the net past Given.
Duff went near after 41 minutes when he was through on the right but Damien missed the half chance.
On 45 minutes Gutierrez made a nice move just outside the box, and then hit a nice right foot shot just wide of the PSV post.
The game was being played at a fairly slow pace but Newcastle had two makeshift attackers in Duff and Milner, but they were doing quite well, and seemed to at least be enjoying themselves.
The half time whistle came with Newcastle still ahead 2-1.

Who’s Manco?
2 James // Aug 6, 2008 at 20:51
Manco is that African dude that Man Utd signed
3 Carlos // Aug 6, 2008 at 20:51
Manco is the brightest prospect of Peruvian, an di dare say S.American football.
He led Peruvian U-17 to World cup quarters, and got elected young player of the U17 S.American tournament, even when Peru finished 4th.
Being peruvian, I am very excited about him, as is my whole country.

Manco is half the reason I wanted to watch this game, cos its his 2nd debut with PSV.
Honetly, this little fella is magic, and toon should not take him lightly.
Come on toon!

hopefully there will be a new striker signed b4 the end of the season… or else we gonna struggle with makeshift players

Great news today; (1) Smith’s not playing, he’s def leaving (2) Steve Mcmahon in the crowd, takeover rumours are true (3) Gutierrez looks class, Guthrie looks a good prospect & Duff’s getting back to his best. Things could be looking up.

Typically shambolic defending. Oh dear
13 reillers // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:20
2-2.
Awful, awful, AWFUL “defending” .
14 Chicken // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:21
Milner has shown his class tonight. Can’t believe there are still so many detractors amongst our own fans.

lol
just lol
We’ll lose this.
16 Obafan // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:22
Well defended Enrique. Oh we desperetaly need a LB and no back-up but a starter, cause Enrique is not making hat much progress. Get Shorey!
17 reillers // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:23
Good stop from Given.
18 GraemeR // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:24
one way traffic, we have been v poor this half - no strength in the squad.
19 the black magpie // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:25
i understand fully why we need another full back
i like enrique…but he does make the wrong decisons in dangerous positions- he should have just knocked it out for conrner or throw in
oh welll
20 Howie // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:27
kk should try bassong at lb until we find someone else
21 GraemeR // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:27
Still dont think LB is our most important position - AM and Holding MF (one to create one to stop) - we should be holding on to the ball not giving it away - AND WE ARE STILL PLAYING THE LONG BALL TO THE FORWARDS - both of them 5 foot
22 Kaler // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:27
I take it the goal was Enrique’s fault?
23 51times // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:27
It’s a friendly, it doesn’t matter if we win or lose. And while Enrique does need to improve, he doesn’t deserve the abuse some of the lowly dogs who frequent this blog give him.
24 Kaler // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:29
Just got home from work lads, Smith isnt playing??? Praise the lord, it must be true that hes leaving! GET IN! Who we got up front tonight then?
25 Geordie Nick // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:29
wudnt read too much into the steve mcmahon thing, although i hope hes there for a takeover, but his company said they had no such plans but they were working with us doin sum promotional work.
26 reillers // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:29
Oh good God, there’s a reason Cacapa plays in defence. Shooting isn’t one of his strong points. LOL!!
27 Veliz // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:29
Is Coloccini watching the game?
28 GraemeR // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:30
Yep - should of taken the easy option - but he CB also didnt cover themselves in glory
29 AndyT // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:30
Ha Ha Ha I think Air Traffic Control at the airport will be moving planes out of the way of that cacapa shot. Ponteland is about where it will land.

is this game on the telly??????
37 mr_flibbles // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:34
Is wasn’t just enrique’s fault that goal. There were 2 more players at fault to let the shot in and Given had little chance to save. The defending again is a shambles, i don’t know what all this Chris Hughton has been doing coaching this lot, but they are defending worse than ever.
Enrique should have knocked out for a corner but goes for a fancy clearance and it dropped right in the middle of the penalty area with 2 PSV players lurking there.
38 Nizo // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:34
It’s 2-2 lads for any latecomers, missed the first half so dunno how we did really first hand, but 2nd half hasn’t been all that.
Their goal came from a mistake from Enrique, ball came over from the left, he hooked it right back into the middle and one of their men volleyed it into the corner.
39 Kaler // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:34
Is Coloccini at the game??
40 AndyT // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:34

41 jeff // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:35
cheers nick….ive been away to canada and missed some news
42 the black magpie // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:35
Geordie Nick, i would point my finger at enrique- he just needs to quash looming dangers- the cross was very deep and going waway from goal- with his left foot he put the ball back into the centre of the penalty area in a very akward fashion which made it a fifty fifty between attackers and defenders
43 Shearer#1 // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:36
We def need a lb. Can’t believe we’re not bidding for Shorey when he’s available for £4m. Need a creative cm as well. Milner works hard but too often there’s no end product, def sell him if we get more than £7m.
44 9 Shearer // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:36
Why Taylor the arm band not Given.
45 AndyT // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:36
First half we looked decent. scored 2 goals early on. Duff Milner Guthrie Gutierrez and Taylor all looked very good first half. Taylor and Guthrie got the goals.

Think 4-3-3 is the formation for us by the looks of it! Not a bad game really, nice warm up for us! Good to see us scoring 2 goals without any strikers, be good to see how Martins etc fair when theyre back! Role on Saturday!!
49 Obafan // Aug 6, 2008 at 21:44
Gutierrez looks a good buy from what I’ve seen. The rest was nothing special, but it was worth seeing if you compare it with last Sunday at Mallorca.
KK now enforce the team with:
1CB (Colloccini do the deal before he retires)
1LB (Shorey for £4m)
1CAM (get someone with creativity, perfect would be Riquelme, but with this owner that will never happen)
1ST (Derdiyok; young and hard working striker)
And add Arshavin aswell and we will have a very good team.
And now I wake up and remember that we have an owner who does not really want to be active in the transfer market
.

good work out against top class opposition. Scoring twice with no recognised striker on the pitch bodes well. Need to iron out these daft defensive mistakes but thats what these games are there for!!

im gonna watch Elite Squad now- quality film they say its better than City of God
http://www.watch-movies.net/movies/elite_squad/
must say tho Taylor looked immense tonight very assured performance- his positioning is coming along- i thing he we would be hard to break if we partner him colo- of faye
iv said my piece on the left back
Jonas looks exciting cant wait for him to link up martins and owen and viduka
Butt- alright but he really is an unimaginative player- really slows our breaks by passing backward or holding on to the ball for too long- i hope guthrie can take his place- but does he have the tank- he was very quite in the 2nd half- but he he scored a goal- and was pretty tidy- no real mistakes of note
Milner, cant cross- but can dribble, but passes in squares
much better than the last two games by a mile
roll on sat
60 Dan-NuFc // Aug 6, 2008 at 22:05
