Newcastle 2 PSV 2 – Full Match Report

nufc-crest.png

Here is the full report of the game tonight when Newcastle drew with Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven, and were a little unlucky not to come away with the win.

3 mins Newcastle made a good start to this game with two goals in the first eight minutes, as they caught the visitors flat at the start of tonight’s game at St. James’ Park.

It was an excellent corner by Geremi and well put home by Taylor, who not surprisingly was delighted with the goal.

7 mins A great move by Newcastle involving Steven Taylor, Geremi, Milner and the Guthrie resulted in another goal.

Taylor broke well and fed Geremi who played in Milner, and James saw Danny Guthrie to his left and laid the ball off and with consummate ease Danny hit his second goal of pre-season coolly past former Manchester City goalkeeper Isaksson.

17min – Guthrie and Butt were playing well for Newcastle in the middle of the park, and young Guthrie is looking good after his goal seemed to have given him that extra spark of confidence.

21min – The rain started to pour down at St. James’ Park but Newcastle were looking a lot better than they did only 3 days ago in Mallorca.

25min – Jonas Gutierrez is looking good and he again got away down the left wing, and then sent in a great cross for Geremi, but Salcido beat the Cameroon International to the ball and managed to clear.

PSV then started to come back into the game and after 32 minutes they pulled one back, although it wasn’t a particularly good goal for Newcastle to concede.

The ball was played down the left hand side and Beye probably should have cut it out, but the ball got across the goal and went to Ibrahim Affellay who fired through a crowd of players past Shay Given to get one back for the visitors.

Duff went near after 41 minutes when he was straight through on the right, but Damien missed the half chance.

43min – Amrabat’s cross then almost caught Given unawares and he was forced to move back quickly and touch the ball over the cross-bar for a corner. Then 17 year old Manco’s well-taken corner was headed wide by Lazovic.

On 45 minutes Gutierrez made a nice move just outside the box and hit a nice right foot shot just wide of the PSV post. A nice bit of play by the Argentine.

The whistle blew for half time to end quite an entertaining first half.

47min – Habib Beye turned on the after-burners to leave Amrabat flat-footed and was then brought down by the recovering midfielder. Geremi then delivered another cross and Maza was forced to head behind for a corner.

From the corner Habib Beye was moving away from the goal but he still managed to head the ball but it went wide.

52min – James Milner hit a great drive from just outside of the penalty area and it needed a great save by Isaksson to turn the ball for a corner.
James Milner took the corner and Taylor tried to reach the ball but it’s cleared by the PSV defense.

57min – Milner raced past Maza and then held up play but then got away again from his marker and put in a beautiful ball across goal. Geremi side footed the ball and should have scored but somehow Isakkson saved the ball right on the line. That should have been Newcastle third goal. Great play by Milner.

58min – Newcastle make a double substitution as 17 year-old Ryan Donaldson and 20 year-old David Edgar replace Geremi and Habib Beye. It’s the second appearance in 4 days for England Under-17 star and local lad Donaldson, and his first appearance at St. James Park for the first team.

65min – The ball fell to Afellay 20 yards out and the forward skied the ball high into the Leazes End.

71min – PSV got another goal back to get on even terms as a dangerous cross by Salcido was not dealt with effectively by the Newcastle defense, and the ball got to Ambrabat, and from 12 yards out he fired past a statuesque Shay Given into the net.

76min – 22 year-old Frenchman Sebastien Bassong came on to make his home debut and replaced captain Nicky Butt, who had put in a good shift.

78min – Milner blasted Duff’s low center back across the goal, but nobody’s there and the Dutch defense eventually get the ball cleared.

79min – Donaldson is looking good and does well to turn Milner’s cross towards goal but his header just went over the bar.

85min – It looked like Taylor was going to get a second headed goal when he ghosted in nicely trying to get on the end of a Milner cross but Isaksson raced from his line and managed to fist the ball clear.

90min – Frank Wiafe Danquah replaced James Milner for his very first taste of first team football at Newcastle.

But the whistle blew and after Newcastle made an effective start with two goals in the first eight minutes the Dutch powerhouse came back well to get a good draw.

smith has a knock and that is the only reason he has not played tonight… everton have not made an official bid yet

McMahon has never watched the club n just wanted to know why other directors wanted tp takeover. but he has said his co,pany will not pursuit a potential takeover n just came to watch the game.

and colliccini was training with his club earlier today and has been finalising things with his agent in deportive. n thats y he didnt get aannouced today.

Guys, I know these stories are usually complete and utter s**t, and i’m usually the first to say so… but… before you get your hopes up about us signing Gomis or Drenthe, I am reliably informed that the black guy with long dreadlocks seen in the directors box tonight is in fact a 17 year old striker from london who was on trial and played in a behind-closed-doors game against a Motherwell XI at the training ground today, in which he scored 2 goals. Keegan liked what he saw and so he signed him before the game tonight.

Plz fix website Ed, gonna have 2 type it all out again lol 🙁

Taylor got motm but I think Spidey deserved it, maybe Butt.

No Smith and 2 goals in 7 minutes lmao, I believe he’s sold.

We started really well and the second goal was a peach and by far the best of the game. Their second was set up by Enrique (I think) who kicked the ball back into penalty area when it was going towards the corner flag!! Bad defending !

Geremi and Milner were poor as was Duff but both Milner and Duff were playing as forwards and they didn’t quite make it work.

We played well for 15 minutes then let PSV run the game for an hour until they equalised and then we started playing again !

PSV were poor imo, Afellay kept trying to take Spidey out… dirty player !

All in all a good result and a better workout for the team.

I don’t know. I think I’d agree with most of Mag Pie’s scores, but ya, Butt’s and Spidey’s are a wee bit harsh.

Milner a 6? He assisted the second goal, no? I didn’t watch the game, but it sounds like he deserved more than that.

Milner was pretty poor, usual bad crossing and not looking up but he was played mainly up front so not surprising tbh.

Im soo annoyed, i am a paying customer of nufctv.co.uk looking forward all week to watching the freindlies on nufc.co.uk but when i put in all my user details i get a message ‘nufc premium services has exceeded their number of licenses’

and i could not watch the game, WHAT THE HELL AM I PAYING A YEARLY SUBSCRPTION FOR IF I CANNOT WATCH THE EXTRA CONTENT I AM PAYING FOR.

what a joke, im going to demand some sort of compensation for this, can you imagine me rushing home from work alst night, getting some doritos and a pint getting all ready to watch the PSV match and then i cant watch it because NUFC.co.uk have only allocated a certain ammount of licenses for the content.

    not happy.

Watched the game on NUFC last night and the quality was excellent and many different camera angles plus good replays. Shame we didn’t win the game, Geremi and Duff both had excellent opportunities to make it 4-2 and afraid that ‘the Bull’ gifted them their second goal. Is he really up to premiership standard, I’m not sure he would be my first team choice. Taylor, Butt and Beye were quality and let’s not forget that we did not have a single senior squad striker on all game.

Do not listen to the spanners that are saying Milner was poor last night. They blatantly know sweet FA about football and/or didn’t even see the game.

Milner was one of, if not the best player on the pitch last night. He set up one goal and, had Geremi managed to slot a sitter away from 6 yards out, would have had a huge role in another after a wonderful piece of skill in the box.

Not even Beckham picks out his man with every cross, and in Milners defense we played without any recognised front men so there weren’t people making the runs you would hope for and expect.

To all the Milner detractors, why not go and vent your anger, frustration and negativity towards a player that deserves it, like Barton. Failing that f**k off to a club that is used to your sort like Sunderland.

Chicken: Thanks for the report on Milner .. im hoping he can SERIOUSLY step up this year and finally realise the ‘potential’ that Sir Bobby invested in .. By way have mentioned before on previous discussion, that the response from couple of S.Americans when i told them that we were close to signing Collicini (sp?) was that we would be doing very VERY well and that they consider the guy to be a Man U / Chelsea type signing …… lets hope thats true ….
